Effect of picolinic acid on nitric oxide synthesis in murine macrophage

  • To determine the effect of picolinic acid on NOㆍ production, murine macrophages were incubated with either medium, various concentrations of picolinic acid, or IFN-${\gamma}$ plus picolinic acid for 48 hr. Picolinic acid does not induce NOㆍ production by itself, it acted synergistically with INF-${\gamma}$ for the induction of reactive nitrogen intermediate production in murine macrophages. Thymidine incorporation appeared to be reciprocally related to nitrite levels, suggesting that IFN-${\gamma}$ plus picolinic acid induced NOㆍ synthesis exerted antiproliferative effects.

  • A novel heteroleptic ruthenium(II) complex bearing a 4-picolinic acid unit as anchoring ligands (trans-dithiocyanato bis(4-picolinic acid)ruthenium(II) (trans-H1)) was synthesized and its chemical structure was identified by $^1H$-NMR, FT-IR and mass spectroscopy. The optical, thermal, electrochemical and dye adsorption properties of trans-H1 dye were investigated and compared with those of the gold standard ruthenium complex, Ru(4,4'-dicarboxy-2,2'-bipyridine)$_2cis(NCS)_2$ (N3). DSSCs based on trans-H1 dyes were examined under the illumination of AM 1.5 G, $100mWcm^{-2}$ and exhibited typical photovoltaic properties with an open-circuit voltage ($V_{OC}$) of 0.46 V, a short-circuit current ($J_{SC}$) of $4.10mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, a fill factor (FF) of 60.4%, and a conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.14%.

산화물 표면의 U(VI) 흡착에 미치는 살리실산과 피콜린산의 영향 (Effect of Salicylic and Picolinic Acids Acids on the Adsorption of U(VI) onto Oxides)

  • 세 종류의 산화물($TiO_2$(아나타제), $SiO_2$(비결정성) 및 $Al_2O_3$(비결정성)) 표면에 U(VI)이 흡착될 때 유기산이 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 유기산으로는 살리실산과 피콜린산을 사용하였다. 유기산의 존재 여부에 따라 달라지는 U(VI)의 흡착률 변화를 pH 함수로 측정하였다. 또한 U(VI)의 존재 여부에 따라 달라지는 유기산의 흡착량을 pH 함수로 측정하였다. $TiO_2$의 경우, 살리실산과 피콜린산이 U(VI)과 수용성 착물을 형성함으로써 U(VI)의 흡착률을 저하시킨다. $SiO_2$의 경우, 살리실산은 U(VI) 흡착에 영향을 주지 않지만, 피콜린산은 오히려 U(VI) 흡착을 증가시킨다. 이 현상을 삼성분 표면착물(ternary surface complex) 생성으로 해석하였으며 U(VI) 흡착에 의존하는 피콜린산의 흡착량 변화, 그리고 흡착된 U(VI)의 형광 특성 변화로 이를 확인하였다. $Al_2O_3$의 경우, 살리실산과 피콜린산 모두 U(VI) 흡착과 무관하게 높은 흡착량을 보였으나 U(VI) 흡착을 감소시키지는 않았다. 따라서 삼성분 표면착물 생성을 배제할 수 없으나 이를 확인하기 위해서는 분광 분석과 같은 추가 연구가 필요하다.

Magnetic and Spectroscopic Studies of some Oxovanadium(IV) Complexes having O = V(O)$_4$ Chromophore

  • Three oxovanadium(IV) complexes with bidentate ligands having only oxygen donor atoms, benzohydroxamic acid (Hben), 8-hydroxyquinoline-N-oxide(Hhqno) and picolinic acid-N-oxide (Hpicn) are prepared and magnetic and spectroscopic properties are investigated for the complexes $VO(ben)_2,\;VO(hqno)_2\;and \;VO(picn)_2.$ Magnetic data together with IR results strongly indicate that dimeric intermolecular interaction is significant in $VO(ben)_2$ while the presence of polymeric V-O${\cdot}{\cdot}$V-O interaction is suggestive in $VO(picn)_2$. For all three complexes, three electronic d-d transitions were observed; extremely strong optical absorption of these bands of $VO(ben)_2$ in DMSO are supposed to be arised from a great metal-ligand covalency. Some fundamental vibration modes of oxovanadium(IV) complexes were empirically assigned from the differences in the spectrum of metal complexes with free ligand.

Identification of Nandrolone and its Metabolite 5α-Estran-3β, 17α-Diol in Horse Urine after Chemical Derivatization by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry

  • Androgenic anabolic steroids (AASs) are synthetic derivatives of testosterone with a common structure containing cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene nucleus. Their use enhances the muscle building capacity and is beneficial during performance. The AASs are one of the most abused group of substances in horse doping. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry ($LC/MS^n$) has been successfully applied to the detection of anabolic steroids in biological samples. However, the saturated hydroxysteroids viz: nandrolone, $5{\alpha}-estrane-3{\beta}$, $17{\alpha}-diol$ exhibit lower detection responses in electrospray ionisation (ESI) because of their poor ionisation efficiency. To overcome this limitation pre-column chemical derivatization has been introduced to enhance their detection responses in $LC-ESI-MS^n$ analysis. The aim of present study was to develop a sensitive method for identification and confirmation of nandrolone and its metabolite in horse urine incorporating pre-column derivatization using picolinic acid. The method consists of extraction of targeted steroid conjugates by solid phase extraction (SPE). The eluted steroid conjugates were hydrolysed by methanolysis and free steroids were recovered with liquid-liquid extraction. The resulting steroids were derivatized to form picolinoyl esters and identification was done using LC-ESI-MS/MS in positive ionization mode. The picolinated steroid adduct enhanced the detection levels in comparison to underivatized steroids.
