An ROV trencher is a type of heavy-duty work class ROV equipped with high-pressure water jet tools for cutting into the sea floor and burying cables. This kind of trencher is mostly used for PLIB operations. This paper introduces the development of this kind of ROV trencher, which has a 698 kW power system, with a 250 kW hydraulic system and two 224 kW water jet systems. The project was launched in January 2014. After four years of design, manufacturing, and system integration, we carried out two sea trials near the Yeongilman port (about 20-30 m in depth) in Pohang to evaluate the system performance in November 2017 and August 2018. Through tests, we found that most of specifications were satisfied, including a maximum bury depth of 3 m, maximum bury speed of 2 km/h, and maximum forward speed of 1.54 m/s.
There are many different factors used in calculating control limits of control chart for variable data. Specially these factors are divided into two groups such as "no given standard" and "given standard"(namely, for analysis and management), but many kind of factors give rise to confusion. Therefore, It is necessary to manifest relationships among factors for easy application regardless of subgroup size. Many SQC textbooks show us plainly these factors, but do not have enough for adequate explanation of relationships among factors. Besides, notation of these factors of SQC textbook isn't coincide with another one, so necessity to the coincidence for the notation of the factors is highlighted during my work recently. In this study, the close examination about relationships among various factors (A-A3, B3-B6, D1-D4, C4, d2, d3 etc) was carried out. Spread sheet results are presented for getting factors according to subgroup size, by grouping as the case of "no given standard" and "given standard". How are these factors to be applied in statistical package (ex, Minitab) have been analyzed using a series of sample data. analyzed using a series of sample data.
The aim of this paper is to numerically explore the feasibility of designing a Mini-Hydro turbine. The interest for this kind of horizontal axis turbine relies on its versatility. For instance, in the field of renewable energy, this kind of turbine may be considered for different applications, such as: tidal power, run-of-the-river hydroelectricity, wave energy conversion. It is fundamental to improve the turbine performance and to decrease the equipment costs for achievement of "environmental friendly" solutions and maximization of the "cost-advantage". In the present work, the commercial CFD code ANSYS is used to perform 3D simulations, solving the incompressible Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (U-RANS) equations discretized by means of a finite volume approach. The implicit segregated version of the solver is employed. The pressure-velocity coupling is achieved by means of the SIMPLE algorithm. The convective terms are discretized using a second order accurate upwind scheme, and pressure and viscous terms are discretized by a second-order-accurate centered scheme. A second order implicit time formulation is also used. Turbulence closure is provided by the realizable k - turbulence model. In this study, a mini hydro turbine (3kW) has been considered for utilization of horizontal axis impeller. The turbine performance and flow behavior have been evaluated by means of numerical simulations. Moreover, the performance of the impeller varied in the pressure distribution, torque, rotational speed and power generated by the different number of blades and angles. The model has been validated, comparing numerical results with available experimental data.
As interest for visualization and real time processing of construction management information was heightened recently, a diversity of management tools have been developed and corresponding systems also have been changed. In the case of BIM(Building Information Modeling) which is being spotlighted as such kind of management tool, its outcome such as technical innovation and time saving through overseas success case, reducing effect of unnecessary work, and so forth has continuously been established. The BIM in which various information related with life cycle of project are managed with the base of 3D object is useful as an information management tool of construction project which becomes complex and large in its scale. The aim of this paper is analysis or reliability on BIM design for expressway. To solve these issues, this study analyzes the design document, road design handbook, guide. Also this paper performed analysis of reliability 2D vs. BIM quantity calculation. This pilot projects "BIM design at Daegu expressway Lot No.5" lays the foundation for future work on BIM based civil engineering design.
In Rapid Prototyping process, the time required to build multiple prototype parts can be reduced by packing several parts optimally in a work volume. Interactive arrangement of the multiple parts is a tedious process and does not guarantee the optimal placement of all the parts. In this case, packing is a kind of 3-D nesting problem because parts are represented by STL files with 3-D information. 3-D nesting is well known to be a problem requiring an intense computation and an efficient algorithm to solve the problem is still under investigation. This paper proposes that packing 3-D parts can be simplified into a 2-D irregular polygon nesting problem by using the characteristic of rapid prototyping process that the process uses 2-dimensional slicing data of the parts and that slice of the STL parts are composed of polygons. Our algorithm uses no-fit-polygon (NFP) to place each slice without overlapping other slices in the same z-level. The allowable position of one part at a fixed orientation for given parts already packed can be determined by obtaining the union of all NFP's that are obtained from each slice of the part. Genetic algorithm is used to determine the order of parts to be placed and orientations of each part for the optimal packing. Optimal orientation of a part is determined while rotating it about the axis normal to the slice by finite angles and flipping upside down. This algorithm can be applied to any rapid prototyping process that does not need support structures.
The main purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes toward mental illness and the mentally ill of psychiatric nurses in Korea and to identify the relationships between the nurses' attitudes and demographic variables. Subjects in this study were 122 psychiatricnurses and 111non-psychiatric nurses in active service at 12 hospitals in Seoul. The insrtument used for measuring attitudes was a questionaire developed by Cohen and Struening (1962) referred to as the“Opinions about Mental illness(OMI) Scale”made up to 51 Likert-type items. The findings of this study indicated hatnurses showed negative attitudetoward mental illness and the mentally ill: Very high on social restrictiveness (factor D), low on Mental Health Ideology (factor C), and Interpersonal Etiology (factor E). Since the high score on Factor A, B and the low score on Factor B, C, E reflect a negative altitudes toward mental illness, this study population related extremely negative attitudes compared to any other surveys. And of the demographic variables that related to their attitudes the education degree and the kind of the hospital in active service showed very significant differences. On the basis of the investigation the findings indicated the followings; 1) Althohg attitudes toward mental illness and the mentally ill of psychiatric nurses were not significant differences from non-psychatric nurses, there was a trend that attitudes of psychaitric nurses did show more negative responses rather than those of non-psychiatric nurses. 2) Demographic variables that relate to their attitudes on the OMI scale were the education degree of the respondent and the kind of their hospital in active service. 3) About attitudes toward mental illness and the mentally ill baccalaureate nursesshowed more positive attitudes in Factor A (Authoritarianism), Factor C (Mental Health Ideology) and Factor D (Social Restrictiveness) than diploma program murses. 4) Nurses in active Service in the private hospital revealed more positive attitudes(A,B,C,D) except Factor (E) than those in the national or public hospital. 5) The ages, duration of work, wanted or unwantedG roup of psychiatric ward and satisfactory level of psychiatric nursing service were non-significant.
The bending problem of Euler-Bernoulli discontinuous beams is dealt with, in which the discontinuities are due to the loads and eventually to essential constrains applied along the beam axis. In particular, the loads are modelled as random delta-correlated processes acting along the beam axis, while the ulterior eventual discontinuities are produced by the presence of external rollers applied along the beam axis. This kind of structural model can be considered in the static study of bridge beams. In the present work the exact expression of the response quantities are given in terms of means and variances, thanks to the use of the stochastic analysis rules and to the use of the generalized functions. The knowledge of the means and the variances of the internal forces implies the possibility of applying the reliability ${\beta}$-method for verifying the beam.
With the rapid growth in construction sector, it becomes all the more important to assess the amount of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste being generated and analyze the practices needed to handle and use this waste before final disposal. This serves waste management and disposal issues, paving way to waste utilization in construction industry from the sustainability point of view. C&D waste constitutes a major bulk of total solid waste produced in the world. In this work, an attempt is made to study the performance of concrete using water soaked Recycled Coarse Aggregates (RCA) in replacement levels of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% to Natural Coarse Aggregates (NCA). Experiments were designed and conducted to study the performance of RCA based concrete. Further suitable performance enhancement techniques to RCA based concrete were attempted, to achieve compressive strength at least equal to or more than that for no RCA based concrete (control concrete). Performance enhancement study is reported here for 50% and 100% RCA based concretes. All four techniques attempted have given favorable results encouraging use of RCA based concretes with full replacement levels, to adopt RCA based concrete in structural applications, without any kind of concern to the stake holder. Further attempts have also been made to use Recycled Fine Aggregates (RFA) with appropriate modifications to serve as fine aggregates in mortar and concrete. Using RFA blended with river sand fractions as well as RFA with Iron Ore Tailings (IOT) fractions, have given good results to serve as fine aggregates to the extent of 100% replacement levels in mortars and concretes.
