This paper describes the refined 3-D finite element (FE) modeling of composite frames composed of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns and steel-concrete composite beams based on the test to get a better understanding of the seismic behavior of the steel-concrete composite frames. A number of material nonlinearities and contact nonlinearities, as well as geometry nonlinearities, were taken into account. The elastoplastic behavior, as well as fracture and post-fracture behavior, of the FE models were in good agreement with those of the specimens. Besides, the beam and panel zone deformation of the analysis models fitted well with the corresponding deformation of the specimens. Parametric studies were conducted based on the refined finite elememt (FE) model. The analyzed parameters include slab width, slab thickness, shear connection degree and axial force ratio. The influences of these parameters, together with the presence of transverse beam, on the seismic behavior of the composite frame were studied. And some advices for the corresponding seismic design provisions of composite structures were proposed.
Data-driven engineering is crucial for information delivery between design, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of prefabricated structures. Design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA) is a critical methodology for prefabricated bridge structures. In this study, a novel concept of digital engineering model that combined existing knowledge of DfMA with object-oriented parametric modeling technologies was developed. Three-dimensional (3D) geometry models and their data models for each phase of a construction project were defined for information delivery. Digital design models were used for conceptual design, including aesthetic consideration and possible variation during fabrication and assembly. The seismic performance of a bridge pier was evaluated by linking the design parameters to the calculated moment-curvature curves. Control parameters were selected to consider the tolerance control and revision of the digital models. Digitalized fabrication of the prefabricated members was realized using the digital fabrication model with G-code for a concrete printer or a robot. The fabrication error was evaluated and the design digital models were updated. The revised fabrication models were used in the preassembly simulation to guarantee constructability. For the maintenance of the bridge, the as-built information was defined for the prefabricated bridge piers. The results of this process revealed that data-driven information delivery is crucial for lifecycle management of prefabricated bridge piers.
Computational studies were carried out on the opiates morphine, heroin, codeine, pentazocine, and buprenorphine, under the density functional theory. The geometric parameters of the pharmacophore and substituents were evaluated at the B3LYP/6-31+G(d) level of theory. The electronic structure calculations were performed using the same hybrid functional at the B3LYP/6-311++G (d,p) level of theory. The atomic charges were obtained by Mulliken population analysis. Given the reported biological activity, calculated partition coefficients, and electronic and geometric analysis, pentazocine and buprenorphine were chosen as models for proposed analogues. These analogues were then studied and compared with the model molecules. The study reveals that the geometry and electronic structure of the pharmacophore remains consistent in the presence of different substituents. Because the proposed analogues preserve the studied properties of the model molecules, it is likely that these analogues display biological activity.

Nano-scale power splitter based on curved plasmonic waveguides are designed by utilizing the multimode interference (MMI) coupler. To analyze easily the adaptive properties of plasmonic curverd multimode interference coupler(PC-MMIC), the curved form transforms equivalently into a planar form by using conformal transformation method. Also, effective dielectric method and longitudinal modal transmission-line theory are used for simulating the light propagation and optimizing the structural parameters at 3-D guiding geometry. The designed $2{\times}2$ PC-MMIC does not work well for quasi-TM mode case due to the bending structure, and it does not exist 3dB coupling property, in which the power splitting ratio is 50%:50%, for quasi-TE mode case. Further, the coupling efficiency is better when the signal is incident at channel with large curvature radius than small curvature radius.

This paper presents an optimization of gear web design used in a main gear train of an engine reduction gearbox for a rotorcraft. The optimization involves the minimization of a total weight, transmission error, misalignment, and face load distribution factor. In particular, three design variables such as a gear web thickness, location of rim-web connection, and location of shaft-web connection were set as design parameters. In the optimization process, web, rim and shaft of gears were converted from the 3D CAD geometry model to the finite element model, and then provided as input to the gear simulation program, MASTA. Lastly, NSGA-II optimization method was used to find the best combination of design parameters. As a result of the optimization, the total weight, transmission error, misalignment, face load distribution factor were all reduced, and the maximum stress was also shown to be a safe level, confirming that the overall gear performance was improved.

The main reason for its instability is sediment scouring downstream of hydraulic structures. Both physical and numerical models have been used to investigate the influence of soil properties on scour hole geometry. Nevertheless, no research has been conducted on resistance parameters that affect sedimentation and erosion. In addition, auxiliary structures like wing walls, which are prevalent in many real-world applications, have rarely been studied for their impact on morphology. The hydraulic characteristics of steady flow through a boxed culvert are calibrated using a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics model compared with experimental data in this study, which shows a good agreement between water depth, velocity, and pressure profiles. Test cases showed that 0.015 m grid cells had the lowest NRMSE and MAE values. It is also possible to quantify sediment scour numerically by testing roughness/d50 ratios (cs) and diversion walls at a meander flume outlet. According to the findings, cs = 2.5 indicates a close agreement between numerical and analytical results of maximum scour depth after the culvert; four types of wing walls influence geometrical deformation of the meander flume outlet, resulting in erosion at the concave bank and deposition at the convex bank; two short headwalls are the most appropriate solution for accounting for small changes in morphology. A numerical model can be used to estimate sediment scour at the meander exit channel of hydraulic structures based on the roughness parameter of soil material and headwall type.

Discontinuities considerably affect the mechanical and hydraulic properties of rock mass. These properties of the rock mass are influenced by the geometry of the discontinuities to a great extent. This paper aims to render an account of the geometrical parameters of several discontinuity sets related to the surrounding rock mass of Rudbar Lorestan Pumped Storage Power Plant powerhouse cavern making use of the linear and areal (circular and rectangular) sampling methods. Taking into consideration quite a large quantity of scanline and the window samplings used in this research, it was realized that the areal sampling methods are more time consuming and cost-effective than the linear methods. Having corrected the biases of the geometrical properties of the discontinuities, density (areal and volumetric) as well as the linear, areal and volumetric intensity accompanied by the other properties related to four sets of discontinuities were computed. There is an acceptable difference among the mean trace lengths measured using two linear and areal methods for the two joint sets. A 3D discrete fracture network generation code (3DFAM) has been developed to model the fracture network based on the mapped data. The code has been validated on the basis of numerous geometrical characteristics computed by use of the linear, areal sampling methods and volumetric method. Results of the linear sampling method have significant variations. So, the areal and volumetric methods are more efficient than the linear method and they are more appropriate for validation of 3D DFN (Discrete Fracture Network) codes.

This paper presents a novel miniaturized 3-D cubic antenna for use in wireless sensor network (WSN) application. The geometry of this antenna is designed as a cube including a meander dipole antenna. A truly omnidirectional pattern is produced by this antenna in both E-plane and H-plane, which allows for non-intermittent communication that is orientation independent. The operating frequency lies in the ISM band (centered in 2.45 GHz). The dimensions of this ultra-compact cubic antenna are 1.25*1.12*1cm3 which features a length dimension λ/11. The coefficient which presents the overall antenna structure is Ka=0.44. The cubic shape of the antenna is allowing for smart packaging, as sensor equipment may be easily integrated into the cube hallow interior. The major constraint of WSN is the energy consumption. The power consumption of radio communication unit is relatively high. So it is necessary to design an antenna which improves the energy efficiency. The parameters considered in this work are the resonant frequency, return loss, efficiency, bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain and the electromagnetic field of the proposed antenna. The specificity of this geometry is that its size is relatively small with an excellent gain and efficiency compared to previously structures (reported in the literature). All results of the simulations were performed by CST Microwave Studio simulation software and validated with HFSS. We used Advanced Design System (ADS) to validate the equivalent scheme of our conception. Input here the part of summary.
This paper presents vision-based 3D facial expression animation technique and system which provide the robust 3D head pose estimation and real-time facial expression control. Many researches of 3D face animation have been done for the facial expression control itself rather than focusing on 3D head motion tracking. However, the head motion tracking is one of critical issues to be solved for developing realistic facial animation. In this research, we developed an integrated animation system that includes 3D head motion tracking and facial expression control at the same time. The proposed system consists of three major phases: face detection, 3D head motion tracking, and facial expression control. For face detection, with the non-parametric HT skin color model and template matching, we can detect the facial region efficiently from video frame. For 3D head motion tracking, we exploit the cylindrical head model that is projected to the initial head motion template. Given an initial reference template of the face image and the corresponding head motion, the cylindrical head model is created and the foil head motion is traced based on the optical flow method. For the facial expression cloning we utilize the feature-based method, The major facial feature points are detected by the geometry of information of the face with template matching and traced by optical flow. Since the locations of varying feature points are composed of head motion and facial expression information, the animation parameters which describe the variation of the facial features are acquired from geometrically transformed frontal head pose image. Finally, the facial expression cloning is done by two fitting process. The control points of the 3D model are varied applying the animation parameters to the face model, and the non-feature points around the control points are changed by use of Radial Basis Function(RBF). From the experiment, we can prove that the developed vision-based animation system can create realistic facial animation with robust head pose estimation and facial variation from input video image.
The o-Vanillin - Glutamine Schiff base [2-Hydroxy-3-Methoxy BenzylidineCarbomyl) -2-Butanoic Acid] was examined for low carbon steel corrosion inhibition in acid media. Weight loss studies were carried out at three different temperatures to determine the inhibition efficiency (IE). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed that the charge transfer resistance controlled the corrosion reaction and Tafel polarization indicated that the Schiff base acts as mixed mode of inhibitor. SEM images were recorded for the surface morphology of the low carbon steel surface. DFT studies revealed corrosion control mechanisms using quantum chemical parameters such as EHOMO, ELUMO, energy gap (∆E), chemical Hardness (η), chemical Softness (σ), Electronegativity (χ), and the fraction of electron transferred (∆N), which is calculated using Gaussian software 09. The gas-phase geometry was fully optimized in the Density Functional Theory (DFT/B3LYP-6-31G (d)).The DFT results are in good agreement with the experimental results. All the results proved that the Schiff Base (2-Hydroxy-3-Metoxy BenzylidineCarbomyl) -2-Butanoic is a suitable alternative for corrosion inhibition of low carbon steel in acid media.
