Ni/Ni-aluminide//Ti/Ti-aluminide 구조경사형 층상재료의 균열 전파 거동 (Crack propagation behavior of in-situ structural gradient Ni/Ni-aluminide//Ti/Ti-aluminide laminate materials)

  • Ni/Ni-aluminide//Ti/Ti-aluminide 경사기능 층상 복합재료를 박막 hot press법을 이용하여 제작하였다. NiAl과 $TiAl_3$ 금속간화합물 층이 자전고온합성반응을 통해 비교적 두껍게 형성되었고, 얇고 연속적인 $Ni_3Al$과 TiAl 층이 고상 확산을 통해 형성되었다. 파괴저항은 하중 방향이 crack arrester인 경우가 금속 층이 균열의 성장을 방해하기 때문에 crack divider 방향인 경우보다 높다. $Ni_3Al$과 NiAl 금속간화합물 층은 각각 벽개파괴와 입계파괴 거동을 보였고, $TiAl_3$층의 파괴 형태는 입내벽개파괴이었다. Ni/Ni-aluminide 층에서 관찰되는 기공과 금속 층과 금속간화합물 층의 미결합 부위가 낮은 파괴저항의 원인으로 판단된다. Acoustic emission (AE) 원파형 해석을 통해 제작된 복합재료의 파괴특성을 고찰하였다.

Experimental and numerical study on the fracture coalescence behavior of rock-like materials containing two non-coplanar filled fissures under uniaxial compression

  • In this research, experimental and numerical simulations were adopted to investigate the effects of ligament angle on compressive strength and failure mode of rock-like material specimens containing two non-coplanar filled fissures under uniaxial compression. The experimental results show that with the increase of ligament angle, the compressive strength decreases to a nadir at the ligament angle of $60^{\circ}$, before increasing to the maximum at the ligament angle of $120^{\circ}$, while the elastic modulus is not obviously related to the ligament angle. The shear coalescence type easily occurred when ${\alpha}$ < ${\beta}$, although having the same degree difference between the angle of ligament and fissure. Numerical simulations using $PFC^{2D}$ were performed for flawed specimens under uniaxial compression, and the results are in good consistency with the experimental results. By analyzing the crack evolution process and parallel bond force field of rock-like material specimen containing two non-coplanar filled fissures, we can conclude that the coalescence and propagation of crack are mainly derived from parallel bond force, and the crack initiation and propagation also affect the distribution of parallel bond force. Finally, the displacement vectors in ligament region were used to identify the type of coalescence, and the results coincided with that obtained by analyzing parallel bond force field. These experimental and numerical results are expected to improve the understanding of the mechanism of flawed rock engineering structures.

독립형 LNG 화물창의 공학적 결함 평가 (Engineering Critical Assessement for an Independent Type-B LNG Cargo Tank)

  • The demand for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers and LNG-fueled ships has significantly increased in recent years due to the sulfur-oxide emission regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The main goal of this paper is to introduce the process for the Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) of IMO independent type-B cargo tanks made from 9% nickel alloy. A methodology proposed by the British Standard was used to conduct ECA for any structure with initial flaws. Based on this standard, a Matlab code was developed to perform ECA. Coarse mesh Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed on an independent type-B LNG cargo tank with a capacity of 15,000 m3. The location with the highest development of maximum principal stress was identified at the bottom of the cargo tank. Fine mesh FEA was performed to obtain the stress range required for ECA. The dynamic cargo tank loads used for FEA were determined using some ship rules presented by Det Norske Veritas. As a result of performing a 20-year long-term crack propagation analysis with a semi-elliptical surface crack, the fracture-to-yield ratio exceeded the Fracture Assessment Line (FAL) and some structural reinforcement was necessary. Performing a 15-day short-term crack propagation analysis, the fracture-to-yield ratio remained within the FAL, and no significant LNG leaks were expected. This paper is believed to provide a guide for performing ECA of LNG cargo tanks in the future by providing the basic theory and application sample necessary to perform ECA.

쇼트피닝 가공된 해양구조용강의 피로파괴에 미치는 응력비의 영향 (Effect of Stress Ratio on Fatigue Fracture of a Shot Peening Marine Structural Steel)

  • The lightness of components required in the automobile and machine industry necessitates the use of high strength components. In particular, the fatigue failure phenomena, which occurs when using metal, increases the danger to human life and property. Therefore, antifatigue failure technology is an integral part of current industries. Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel, while improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of compressive residual stress of spring steel(JISG SUP-9) by shot-peening on fatigue crack growth characteristics in a stress ratio(R=0.1, R=0.3, R=0.6) was investigated, giving consideration to fracture mechanics. By using the methods mentioned above, following conclusions are drawn: (1) The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the shot-peening material was lower than that of the un-peening material and in stage I, ΔKth, the threshold stress intensity factor of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts, unlike the un-peening material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the shot-peening material, was higher than that of the un-peening material, as concluded from effect of da/dN. (2) Fatigue life shows more improvement in the shot-peening material than in the un-peening material, and the compressive residual stress of surface on the shot-peen processed operate resistance of fatigue crack propagation.

Fracture behavior modeling of a 3D crack emanated from bony inclusion in the cement PMMA of total hip replacement

  • In orthopedic surgery and in particular in total hip arthroplasty, the implant fixation is carried out using a surgical cement called polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA). This cement has to insure a good adhesion between implant and bone and a good load distribution to the bone. By its fragile nature, the cement can easily break when it is subjected to a high stress gradient by presenting a craze zone in the vicinity of inclusion. The focus of this study is to analyze the effect of inclusion in some zone of cement in which the loading condition can lead to the crack opening leading to their propagation and consequently the aseptic loosening of the THR. In this study, the fracture behavior of the bone cement including a strange body (bone remain) from which the onset of a crack is supposed. The effect of loading condition, the geometry, the presence of both crack and inclusion on the stress distribution and the fracture behavior of the cement. Results show that the highest stresses are located around the sharp tip of bony inclusion. Most critical cracks are located in the middle of the cement mantle when they are subjected to one leg standing state loading during walking.

複合組織鋼의 第2相 硬度變化가 腐蝕疲勞 크랙傳播에 미치는 影響 (The Influence on the Corrosion Fatigue Crack Propagation in Changing of the Second Phase Hardness of Dual Phase Steel)

  • The corrosion fatigue fracture behaviour of dual phase steel was investigated in 3% NaCl solution at 302MPa and 137MPa. Fatigue test was conducted by cantilever type of self-made rotary bending fatigue testing machine. The fatigue strength increased with increasing the hardness of 2nd phase. Corrosion pit originated at the boundary of the 2nd phase. The size and number of corrosion pits were influenced by the 2nd phase hardness, and pits remained constant in size just after they were transited into cracks. The life of crack initiation was effected by stress level. The shape of relation of .DELTA. K and da/dN has smaller scattering in it in 3% NaCl solution than that in air. The higher the 2nd phase hardness is, the greater the corrosion fatigue life becomes. Corrosion fatigue fracture behaviour was primarily effected by mechanical factor in case of high stress(302MPa), but by electro-chemical reaction in a lower stress(137MPa). As stress level got lower and hardness of the 2nd phase got higher, the roughness of fracture surface increased.

알루미나 조성에 따른 고강도 자기 애자의 특성 연구 (Study on Characteristics of Porcelain Insulators for High Strength with Alumina Composition)

  • In this study. porcelain insulator samples which have a different alumina composition were manufactured in order to test electrical and mechanical properties and make an analysis of the propagation phenomena of micro cracks on porcelain body. From XRD quantitative analysis the crystalline phases were different with alumina composition, sample C and D which have about l7wt% Corundum phase without the Cristobalite phase shows better electrical and mechanical properties than sample A and B which have the Cristobalite phase. In dielectrics test on porcelain samples with below l7wt% alumina composition, it was found that the amount of glass phase(SiO$_2$) have an main effect to decrease the dielectric loss(tan$\delta$), and the dielectric breakdown voltage of aluminous porcelain insulators was largely affected by its relative density. As a micro tracks analysis, HRB were measured, then the intensity of HRB increased with the amount of alumina composition. On the other hand, the propagation behaviors of cracks was fairly influenced by the distribution of pores.

자동차 현가장치재의 부식피로수명에 따른 압축잔류응력의 영향 (The Effect of Compressive Residual Stress according to Corrosion Fatigue Life of Automobile Suspension Material)

  • A study of new materials that are light-weight, high in strength has become vital to the machinery of auto industries. But then, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. And Influence of corrosive condition for corrosion fatigue crack was investigated, after immersing in 3.5%NaCl, $10%HNO_3$+3.5%HF, $6%FeCl_3$. The immersion period was performed for 365days. The compressive residual stress was imposed on the surface according to each shot velocity based on shot peening, which is the method of improving fatigue life and strength. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the shot peened material than in the un peened material in corrosion conditions. The threshold stress intensity factor range was decreased in corrosion environments over ambient. Compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation. The fatigue crack growth rate of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the un peened material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the shot peened material was higher than that of the un peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN.

Rock bridges를 고려한 수치 해석적 수압파쇄 균열거동 연구 (A Numerical Study of Hydraulic Fractures Propagation with Rock Bridges)

  • 일반적으로 암반 구조물의 안정성에 심각한 영향을 미칠 수 있는 것으로 알려진, 암반 내의 rock bridges는 일종의 opening-mode fracture로 간주될 수 있다. 초창기에는 재료의 저항 특성을 고려하여 rock bridges 자체의 거동 특성에 대한 연구가 있었으나, 최근에 와서는 수치 해석적 연구를 통해 파괴역학의 개념을 적용하여 rock bridges의 분포특성이 암반 구조물의 안정성에 미치는 영향 등을 새롭게 연구하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 rock bridges가 수압파쇄 균열의 분포특성에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자, rock bridges의 분포형태에 따른 암반 내 응력 분포 특성과 균열의 bridge 현상을 먼저 살펴보았다. 즉 , 균열의 길이에 대한 균열의 간격의 비 (s/L 비) 균열의 길이에 대한 균열의 오버랩의 비 (d/L 비)를 변화시키면서 응력 분포 특성을 수치 해석적으로 살펴본 결과, 2개의 균열만으로도 여러 개의 균열 분포 특성을 대표할 수 있음을 알았고, s/L 비가 감소할수록 또는 d/L비가 증가할수록 암반 내 응력 집중은 커짐을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 수치 해석결과를 토대로, 수압파쇄 균열과 rock bridges의 상호 관계를 수치 해석적으로 연구한 결과, rock bridges가 없을 경우 탄성이론에 맞게 발전하던 수압파쇄 균열이, rock bridges의 존재에 의해 수압파쇄 균열의 전파 방향이 왜곡됨은 물론 수압파쇄 균열에 수직으로 작용하는 원거리 응력도 정확히 표현하지 못함을 알았다. 즉 , 수압파쇄 균열 선단에서의 mode I 응력집중계수는 s/L비가 감소할수록 또는 d/L 비가 증가할수록 커짐을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과로부터, 균열의 분포특성을 규명하기 위해 노두에서 일반적으로 실시되는 scanline 조사에서 얻을 수 있는 s/L 비와 d/L 비를 통하여 암반 내에 존재하는 응력의 평가 방법이 새로이 제안할 수 있을 것이다.로 제안하였다. 본 노천채탄장의 최종사면과 같이 장기적인 유지를 필요로 하는 사면은 사면의 변형거동을 감시하기 위해 보다 체계적인 계측을 필요로 하며, 또한 사면이 많은 비에 노출되기 쉽기 때문에 사면의 풍화와 침식에 대한 대책연구도 수행되어야 한다. 이 값이 감소할수록 Cox-Merz 법칙은 더욱 잘 성립한다.$_{TM4}$/$\bar{p}$$_{TM2}$, $\bar{p}$$_{TM4}$/$\bar{p}$$_{TM1}$, log($\bar{p}$$_{TM4}$/$\bar{p}$$_{TM3}$) 등과 상관이 높게 나타났다.이 소요되었고, 우리 나라 자연환경에서는 5일에서 7월에 주로 이 충체의 유충이 발육되고 전파되는 것으로 추측되었다.러 가지 방법들을 적극 적용하여 금후 검토해볼 필요가 있을 것이다.잡은 전혀 삭과가 형성되지 않았다. 이 결과는 종간 교잡종을 자방친으로 하고 그 자방친의 화분친을 사용할 때만 교잡이 이루어지고 있음을 나타내고 있다. 따라서 여교잡을 통한 종간잡종 품종육성 활용방안을 금후 적극 확대 검토해야 할 것이다하였다.함을 보이고 있다.X> , ZnCl$_{3}$$^{-}$같은 이온과 MgCl$^{+}$, MgCl$_{2}$같은 이온종을 형성하기 때문인것 같다. 한편 어떠한 용리액에서던지 NH$_{4}$$^{+}$의 경우 Dv값이 제일 작았다. 바. 본 연구의 목적중의 하나인 인체유해 중금속이온인 Hg(II), Cd(II)등이 NaCl같은 염화물이 함유된 시료용액에 공해이온으로 존재할 경우 흡착에 의한 제거가 가능하다. 한편 이같은 중금속이온의 흡착실험은 특히

Reinforced concrete beams under drop-weight impact loads

  • This paper describes the results of an investigation into high mass-low velocity impact behaviour of reinforced concrete beams. Tests have been conducted on fifteen 2.7 m or 1.5 m span beams under drop-weight loads. A high-speed video camera has been used at rates of up to 4,500 frames per second in order to record the crack formation, propagation, particle spallation and scabbing. In some tests the strain in the reinforcement has been recorded using "Durham" strain gauged bars, a technique developed by Scott and Marchand (2000) in which the strain gauges are embedded in the bars, so that the strains in the reinforcement can be recorded without affecting the bond between the concrete and the reinforcement. The impact force acting on the beams has been measured using a load cell placed within the impactor. A high-speed data logging system has been used to record the impact load, strains, accelerations, etc., so that time histories can be obtained. This research has led to the development of computational techniques based on combined continuum/discontinuum methods (finite/discrete element methods) to permit the simulation of impact loaded reinforced concrete beams. The implementation has been within the software package ELFEN (2004). Beams, similar to those tested, have been analysed using ELFEN a good agreement has been obtained for both the load-time histories and the crack patterns.
