  • This paper describes a novel automated analysis system for bellows of piping system. An automatic finite element (FE) mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy theory and computational geometry technique, is incorporated into the system, together with one of commercial FE analysis codes and one of commercial solid modelers. In this system, a geometric model, i.e. an analysis model, is first defined using a commercial solid modelers for 3-D shell structures. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay triangulation technique is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. The triangular elements are converted to quadrilateral elements. Practical performances of the present system are demonstrated through several analysis for bellows of piping system.

  • The concept of rapid prototyping intended for a significant reduction in cost and lead time becomes even more practical with the recent development of various equipments to make the concept concrete. For the purpose of real application of commercially available SLA(stereolithography apparatus), this paper is intended to develop the standard conversion procedure from CAD data to the input data for SLA. While the procedure presented in this paper is based on CAD system "CATIA" and SLA of 3D systems, Inc., which are being used in authors' company DAEWOO Motor Co., Ltd., the basic concept of this paper can be applied to any other CAD systems and machines of using stereolithography process. The algorithm presented in this paper is classified into two stages-node sampling and triangulation. First of all, point data are sampled through the node sampling procedure, and then these are triangulated so that the input data for SLA operation is finally generated. The suggested method is devised in a way to meet the input requirements of SLA and more importantly consume less computation time and generate less number of input data for SLA.

  • Photogrammetry, as its name implies, is a 3-dimensional coordinate measuring technique that uses photographs as the fundamental medium for metrology. In the last few years the accuracy of photogrammetry has increased dramatically thanks to the rapid advance of digital camera manufacturing technique. This paper discusses photogrammetric measurement of the interface surface of MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera), which is a main payload of KOMPSAT-2. Total 24 paper targets on the objective surfaces and two scale bars calibrated with high accuracy were used for measurement, and multiple images were taken from 11 different camera angles by using a spacecraft rotation dolly. As a result of analysis, 3D coordinates of each targeted point were obtained and the flatness value based on the selected reference plane was calculated and compared with the pre-determined requirement. The technique acquired by this study is expected to be used for the 3D precise measurement of ultra-light weight and inflatable space structures such as a satellite antenna and a solar array.

  • In this study, a cloud-based processing method using Agisoft Metashape, a commercial software, and Amazon web service, a cloud computing service, is introduced and evaluated to quickly generate high-precision 3D realistic data from large volume UAV images acquired in disaster sites. Compared with on-premises method using a local computer and cloud services provided by Agisoft and Pix4D, the processes of aerial triangulation, 3D point cloud and DSM generation, mesh and texture generation, ortho-mosaic image production recorded similar time duration. The cloud method required uploading and downloading time for large volume data, but it showed a clear advantage that in situ processing was practically possible. In both the on-premises and cloud methods, there is a difference in processing time depending on the performance of the CPU and GPU, but notso much asin a performance benchmark. However, it wasfound that a laptop computer equipped with a low-performance GPU takes too much time to apply to in situ processing.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the outcome of arthroscopic posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) augmentation using an autogenous hamstring tendon graft and the posterior-posterior triangulation technique with preservation of ligament remnant or elongated ligament. Materials and Methods: From January 2002 to December 2009, we performed PCL augmentation using an autogenous hamstring tendon graft and the posterior-posterior triangulation technique in 32 patients. The mean age was 35.2 years. Twenty two cases were male and 10 cases were female. Average follow-up period was 5 years and 5 months (range: 2-7.9). Subjective and objective parameters were utilized in analyses, such as the mean range of motion, post. drawer test, Lysholm knee score, Tegner activity score, International Knee Documentation Cominittee (IKDC) grade, and second look arthroscopic examination. Results: At last follow up posterior displacement by the Telos stress test decreased from $10.8{\pm}5.1\;mm$ to $2.8{\pm}3.7\;mm$ (p<0.05). The final Lysholm knee score improved from $60.4{\pm}5.8$ to $84.6{\pm}4.8$. Tegner activity score improved from 3.2 to 4.8. The final IKDC grade was A in 18, B in 11, C in 3. Postoperative Lysholm knee score, IKDC grades, Tegner activity scale, and posterior displacement demonstrated statistically significant improvement compared to the preoperative state (p<0.05). Conclusion: Arthroscopic PCL reconstruction using an autogenous hamstring tendon with preservation of ligament remnant showed a good clinical results and posterior stability.

  • Several geometrical models (e.g., cone and flux rope models) have been suggested to infer 3-D parameters of CMEs using multi-view observations (STEREO/SECCHI) and single-view observations (SOHO/LASCO). To prepare for when only single view observations are available, we have made a test whether the cone model parameters from single-view observations are consistent with those from multi-view ones. For this test, we select 35 CMEs which are identified as CMEs, whose angular widths are larger than 180 degrees, by one spacecraft and as limb CMEs by the other ones. For this we use SOHO/LASCO and STEREO/SECCHI data during the period from 2010 December to 2011 July when two spacecraft were separated by $90{\pm}10$ degrees. In this study, we compare 3-D parameters of these CMEs from three different methods: (1) a triangulation method using the STEREO/SECCHI and SOHO/LASCO data, (2) a Graduated Cylindrical Shell (GCS) flux rope model using the STEREO/SECCHI data, and (3) an ice cream cone model using the SOHO/LASCO data. The parameters used for comparison are radial velocities, angular widths and source location (angle ${\gamma}$ between the propagation direction and the plan of the sky). We find that the radial velocities and the ${\gamma}$-values from three methods are well correlated with one another (CC > 0.8). However, angular widths from the three methods are somewhat different. The correlation coefficients are relatively not good (CC > 0.4). We also find that the correlation coefficients between the locations from the three methods and the active region locations are larger than 0.9, implying that most of the CMEs are radially ejected.

  • This paper presents a novel EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) based SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) system for stable camera tracking and re-localization. The obtained 3D points by SLAM are triangulated using Delaunay triangulation to establish a reference plane, and features are described by BRISK(Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints). The proposed method estimates the camera parameters from the homography of the reference plane when the tracking errors of EKF SLAM are much accumulated. Using the robust descriptors over sequence enables us to re-localize the camera position for matching over sequence even though the camera is moved abruptly.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme to generate multi-view images utilizing depth map decomposition and adaptive edge smoothing. After carrying out smooth filtering based on an adaptive window size to regions of edges in the depth map, we decompose the smoothed depth map into four types of images: regular mesh, object boundary, feature point, and number-of-layer images. Then, we generate 3-D scenes from the decomposed images using a 3-D mesh triangulation technique. Finally, we extract multi-view images from the reconstructed 3-D scenes by changing the position of a virtual camera in the 3-D space. Experimental results show that our scheme generates multi-view images successfully by minimizing a rubber-sheet problem using edge smoothing, and renders consecutive 3-D scenes in real time through information decomposition of depth maps. In addition, the proposed scheme can be used for 3-D applications that need the depth information, such as depth keying, since we can preserve the depth data unlike the previous unsymmetric filtering method.
