This paper presents a novel approach to real-time recognition of 3D environment and objects for intelligent robots. First. we establish the three fundamental principles that humans use for recognizing and interacting with the environment. These principles have led to the development of an integrated approach to real-time 3D recognition and modeling, as follows: 1) It starts with a rapid but approximate characterization of the geometric configuration of workspace by identifying global plane features. 2) It quickly recognizes known objects in environment and replaces them by their models in database based on 3D registration. 3) It models the geometric details on the fly adaptively to the need of the given task based on a multi-resolution octree representation. SIFT features with their 3D position data, referred to here as stereo-sis SIFT, are used extensively, together with point clouds, for fast extraction of global plane features, for fast recognition of objects, for fast registration of scenes, as well as for overcoming incomplete and noisy nature of point clouds. The experimental results show the feasibility of real-time and behavior-oriented 3D modeling of workspace for robotic manipulative tasks.

Korea is experiencing a rapid increase in electricity consumption due to rapid economic development, and many power transmission towers are installed to provide smooth power supply. The high-voltage transmission line is mainly made of aluminum stranded wire, and the wire is loosely guided so that some deflection is maintained. The degree of deflection has a great influence on the quality of the construction and the life of the cable. As the time passes, the shrinkage and expansion occur repeatedly due to the weight of the cable and the surrounding environment. Therefore, periodic monitoring is essential for the management of the power transmission line. In this study, the power transmission lines were monitored using 3D laser scanning technology. The data of the power transmission line of the study area was acquired and the point cloud type 3D geospatial information of the transmission line was extracted through data processing. The length of the transmission line and deflection amount were calculated using the 3D geospatial information of the transmission line, and the distance from the surrounding obstacles could be calculated effectively. The result of study shows the utilization of 3D laser scanning technology for transmission line management. Future research will contribute to the efficiency of transmission line management if a transmission line monitoring system using 3D laser scanning technology is developed.

Colmap is one of the innovative artificial intelligence technologies, highly effective as a tool in 3D reconstruction tasks. Moreover, it excels at constructing intricate 3D models by utilizing images and corresponding metadata. Colmap generates 3D models by merging 2D images, camera position data, depth information, and so on. Through this, it achieves detailed and precise 3D reconstructions, inclusive of objects from the real world. Additionally, Colmap provides rapid processing by leveraging GPUs, allowing for efficient operation even within large data sets. In this paper, we have presented a method of collecting 2D images of traditional Korean towers and reconstructing them into 3D models using Colmap. This study applied this technology in the restoration process of traditional stone towers in South Korea. As a result, we confirmed the potential applicability of Colmap in the field of cultural heritage restoration.

In this study, we investigated the applicable plan of GIS on the environmental impact assessment of 60 Hz Powerline. So we assessed distance data based on calculations by use of 2D and 3D Geographical information systems(GIS) and distance data based on measurements on 1: 5000 maps accord with on site distance measurements to use input data for calculating magnetic field. One hundred eight of the on site measured addresses were selected from residences. The data were achieved by measuring the distance between residence and power line on maps with scales of 1: 5000. The digital map was obtained from National Geographic Information Institute with scales of 1: 5000, and we made 2D and 3D map. Correlation analyses were performed for statistical analyses. For the 3D GIS versus on site comparison of different exposure categories, 70 of 108 measurements were assigned to the correct category. Similarly for 2D GIS versus on site comparison, 71 of 108 were correctly categorized. When comparing map measurement with on site measurement, 62 of 108 were correctly categorized. When the correlation analysis was performed, best correlation was found between 3D GIS and on site measurements with r = 0.84947 (p<0.0001). The correlation between map and on site measurement yielded an r of 0.76517 (p<0.0001). Since the GIS measurements and map measurement were made from the center point in the building and the on site measurements had to be made from the closest wall on the building, this might introduce and additional error in urban areas. The difference between 2D and 3D calculations were resulted from the height of buildings.
A breast model was for the human body was devised by studying a body scan and human body index of a desirable breast type. Thus, when manufacturing various 3D models, these results can accordingly become a fundamental basis for realizing a desirable breast model. This study aims to provide a basic data for designing the cup patterns of brassieres in order to improve the function and wearing comfort. The comfort of three kinds of brassieres were compared: one manufactured by the actual measured size; another manufactured as per the ratio of desirable upper and lower breast lengths; and the third manufactured by the 3D model attained by the desirable human body ratio. In this study, we suggest a process for realizing the desirable breast model using the ratio of bust breadth and waist front length, which are the components for deciding the appropriate position and size of breast, and which are easy to measure. The ideal breast shape is an equilateral triangle formed by connecting the nipple with the center of the clavicle. After deciding the interval between the nipples, this value can be used to configure the locations of nipples by drawing a tangent, with equal length, from the anterior neck point (which is the center of clavicle) to the nipple. Also, since inside points of breast do not exist, the outer point of breast, upper point of breast, and below point of breast on the same plane, and the depths from the nipple point to the respective points, are applied to simulate a 3D image, by modifications along the x, y, and z axes. Depending on the type of breast, the length from the center of shoulder to the nipple, the diameter of breast, upper length of breast, and the position of nipple, are different. In conical or protruding breast, the wearing sensation is better when the nipple point of brassiere was lifted, by modifying the upper and lower lengths of breast. Considering the wearing sensation and function of a brassiere, it was better to leave the wearer's size as it is and use a pad within the same cup, rather than increase the basal area of the breast in order to increase the volume.

This paper introduces an algorithm for computing similarity between two poses in the motion capture data with different scale of skeleton, different number of joints and different joint names. The proposed algorithm first performs the topological analysis on the skeleton hierarchy for classifying the joints into more meaningful groups. The global joints positions of each joint group then are aggregated into a point cloud. The number of joints and their positions are automatically adjusted in this process. Once we have two point clouds, the algorithm finds an optimal 2D transform matrix that transforms one point cloud to the other as closely as possible. Then, the similarity can be obtained by summing up all distance values between two points clouds after applying the 2D transform matrix. After some experiment, we found that the proposed algorithm is able to compute the similarity between two poses regardless of their scale, joint name and the number of joints.

3D scan technology can utilize real spatial information as it is in virtual space, so it can be usefully used in various fields such as reverse engineering of buildings and process management. Recently, with the development of ICT technology, more precise scan data can be obtained, and scan processing time has also been greatly reduced. In addition, the combination of software and scanning equipment used in 3D scanning technology is very diverse, and results are very different depending on which technology is used. Accordingly, there is a problem that it is difficult for a user who has no experience in 3D scanning technology to determine which technology and equipment should be used to obtain good results. In this study, 3D scan technologies mainly used at home and abroad are investigated, classified, and tested at actual construction sites to suggest considerations and suitable 3D scan methods when using 3D scans in construction sites. The test results were analyzed to evaluate the time it takes to scan, the final quality, and the user's convenience according to each technology method.
This study is a study on theoretical considerations on industrial design data in the era of data economy. This study aims to illuminate the value of industrial design data, interpret the meaning of the transition from design management to the design data era, and highlight the importance of literacy to interpret data for designers. The scope of research approaches the R&D capability dimension of a company to explore the industrial value of design. It limits the scope of research from an industrial point of view rather than the humanistic basis and aesthetic value of design. As a result of the study, it was found that the value of industrial design data is not in ex post evaluation, but in customer-oriented market prediction, and that the design industry data-led strategy is important. The key point is that the industrial design data issues of large companies and SMEs are different, the direction of industrial design data should be to support customer-centered decision making in the product/service development of companies, and the core competency is the amount of data or tools and technologies to handle it. No, it should be in data literals. Lastly, if the use of industrial design data is to be strengthened, management of the public level rather than the personal level of data management should be preceded.
High-performing architecture should be designed by taking into account the mutual dependency between the new building and the local context. The performative architecture plays an important role to avert any unforeseen failures after the building has been built; particularly ones related to the microclimate impacts that affect the human comfort. The use of the concept of solar envelopes helps designers to construct the developable mass of the building design considering the solar access and the site obstruction. However, the current analysis method using solar envelopes lack in terms of integrating the detailed information of the existing context during the simulation process. In architectural design, often the current site modelling not only absent in preserving the complex geometry but also information on the surface characteristics. Currently, the emerging applications of point clouds offer a great possibility to overcome these limitations, since they include the attribute information such as XYZ as the position information and RGB as the color information. This study particularly presents a comparative analysis between the manually built 3D models and the models generated from the point cloud data. The modelling comparisons focus on the relevant factors of solar radiation and a set of simulation to calculate the performance indicators regarding selected portions of the models. The experimental results emphasize an introduction of the design approach and the dataset visibility of the 3D existing environments. This paper ultimately aims at improving the current architectural decision of support environment means, by increasing the correspondence between the digital models for performance analysis and the real environments (context of design) during the conceptual design phase.

Several types of automatic 3D scanners are available for use in the 3D scanning industry, e.g., an automatic 3D scanner that uses a robot arm and one that uses an automatic rotary table. Specifically, these scanners are used to obtain a 3D shape using automatic assisting devices. Most of these scanners are required to perform numerous operations, such as merging, aligning, trimming, and filling holes. We are interested in developing an automatic 3D shape collection device using a spherical-coordinate-based guiding system. Then, the aim of the present study is to design an automatic guiding system that can automatically collect 3D shape data. We develop a 3D model of this system and measuring data which are collected by a personal computer. An optimal design of this system and the geometrical accuracy of the measured data are both evaluated using 3D modeling software. The developed system is then applied to an object having a highly complex shape and manifold sections. Our simulation results demonstrate that the developed system collects higher-quality 3D data than the conventional method.
