Development of 3-D Stereo PIV by Homogeneous Coordinate System (호모지니어스 좌표계를 이용한 3차원 스테레오 PIV 알고리듬의 개발)

  • A process of 3-D particle image velocimetry, called here, as '3-D stereo PIV' was developed for the measurement of an illuminated slied section field of 3-D complex flows. The present method includes modeling of camera by a calibrator based on the homogeneous coordinate system, transfromation of the oblique-angled image to the right-angled image, identification of 2-D velocity vectors by 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criterior, and finally 3-D animation as the post processing. An experimental system was also used for the application of the proposed method. Three analog CCD cameras and an Argon-Ion Laser(300mW) for illumination were adopted to capture the wake flow behind a bluff obstacle.

  • The Holographic Particle Velocimetry system can be a promising optical tool for the measurements of three dimensional particle velocities. In this study, diffused illumination holographic system to measure the sizes and 3D velocities of moving particles based on automatic image processing was developed. First of all basic optical systems for pulse laser recording, continuous laser reconstruction, and image acquisition, were constructed. To determine the position of particles in the optical axis, new three auto-focusing parameters(AEP), namely, Correlation Coefficient, Sharpness Index, and Depth Intensity were introduced and verified. The developed system was applied to spray droplets to validate the capability of the system. Three dimensional positions of particles viewed from two sides were decided using AFP and then 3D velocities of Particles were extracted by particle tracking algorithm. Comparison of measurement results of sizes and 3D velocities of particles with those obtained by laser instrument, PDPA, showed good consistency of the developed holographic system.

  • Turbulent properties of the wake of a circular cylinder were measured The diameter of the cylinder is l0mm and the Reynolds number is 420. A new 3D-PTY system was constructed and a genetic algorithm (GA) was introduced in order to increase the number of instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vectors. In the GA two fitness functions were introduced in order to enhance the correspondences of the particles. The measurement system consists of three CCD cameras, Ar-ion laser, an image grabber and a host computer. More than 3000 instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vectors were obtained by the system. The database of the turbulent properties of the circular cylinder was constructed by the constructed 3D-PTV system.

  • A practical method is proposed to improve hit probability of the digital gun fire control system, when the measured rate of the tracking sensor becomes biased under some operational situation. For ground moving target it is shown that the well-known Kalman filter which uses position measurement only can be optimally used to eliminate the rate bias error. On the other hand, for 3D moving aircraft we present a new algorithm which incorporate FIR-type filter, which uses position and rate measurement at the same time, and the fixed-lag smoother using position measurement only, and show that it has the optimal performance in terms of both estimation accuracy and response time.

  • This paper described the partial discharge (PD) measurement techniques for diagnosing gas-insulated switches in overhead power distribution system. A capacitive voltage probe to detect PD pulse was designed and fixed on the surface of a bushing. We also designed a coupling network to attenuate AC voltage by 270 dB, and a low-noise amplifier having the gain of 40 dB and 500 kHz~20 MHz 3 dB. From the calibration, it was calculated that the sensitivity of the measurement system was 0.94mV/pC. In the application experiment, we could measure a PD pulse of 45 pC.

Study on torso patterns for elderly obese women for vitalization of the silver clothing industry - Applying the CLO 3D program - (실버 의류산업 활성화를 위한 노년 비만여성의 토르소 원형 연구 - CLO 3D 가상착의 시스템 활용 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest torso patterns that fit the three main body shapes of elderly obese women. To reduce time, costs, and also the trial and error needed to make patterns, the CLO program for 3D test wear was employed. Three virtual models for aged obese women were use, with the YUKA system used to produce torso patterns. 3D simulation of test wear and corrections was done to design optimal torso patterns. The results were as follows: First, for the three models of obese women's body shapes as realized by CLO 3D, Type 1 is lower-body obesity shapes, Type 2 is abdominal obesity shapes, and Type 3 is whole-body obesity shapes. Second, to design the study patterns, actual measurement values, back waist length and waist to hip length, were used. The armhole depth (B/4-1.5), front interscye (B/6+2.3), front neck width (B/12-0.5), front neck depth (B/12+0.5), front waist measurement (W/4+ 1.5+D), front hip measurement (H/4+2+0.5), and back hip measurement (H/4+3-0.5) were calculated using formulas. Third, according to the results of test-wearing the study patterns, reduced front neck width and depth improved the neck fit and reduced armhole depth bettered loose or plunging armhole girth and also reduced the sagging of bust c.. Also, tight sidesfrom aprotruded waist and abdomen improved with the increase of surpluses in the back waist and also back and front hip c. The exterior was enhanced by displacement of back and front darts, which distributed surpluses better.

Active Focusing Technique for Extracting Depth Information (액티브 포커싱을 이용한 3차원 물체의 깊이 계측)

  • In this paper,a new approach-using the linear movement of the lens location in a camera and focal distance in each location for the measurement of the depth of the 3-D object from several 2-D images-is proposed. The sharply focused edges are extracted from the images obtained by moving the lens of the camera, that is, the distance between the lens and the image plane, in the range allowed by the camera lens system. Then the depthin formation of the edges are obtained by the lens location. In our method, the accurate and complicated control system of the camera and a special algorithm for tracing the accurate focus point are not necessary, and the method has some advantage that the depth of all objects in a scene are measured by only the linear movement of the lens location of the camera. The accuracy of the extracted depth information is approximately 5% of object distances between 1 and 2m. We can see the possibility of application of the method in the depth measurement of the 3-D objects.

In principle, as two frame images only are necessary for the single instantaneous analysis of a section field of 3-D flow, more effective vectors are obtainable contrary to the previous multi-frame vector algorithm. An experimental system was also used for the application of the proposed method.   • Perceiving a 3D moving target is important for automated machines including robots in a factory. Although stereovision or ultrasonic ranging is often employed for the purpose, the former requires high-cost systems, and the latter suffers from low-resolution. In this paper, we propose a PSD sensor array to acquire the 3D profile of an object conveyed by a belt. Rectangular parallelepiped target objects at random positions and orientations are assumed. Nine PSD sensors are configured in a $3{\times}3$ array above the belt, and fired in a sequence so that cross-talk can be avoided. Time gaps among sensor readings are compensated to get a result that is obtainable when sensors' measurements are made simultaneously along a sensing line. The system designed is tested with various objects in experiments.

  • Performance tests on the 3-Dimensional Flow-Structure-Interactions-Measurement System(FSIMS) have been carried out. Experimental data obtained by the FSIMS on a floating cylinder have been used to generate a set of artificial images. Comparisons between the data obtained by the use of the artificial images and those original experimental data have been made. Another set of artificial images have also been generated based on theoretically modulated sinusoidal motions, and comparisons between the data obtained by the use of these artificial images and the theoretical ones have been carried out. It has been verified that the FSIMS has a measurement uncertainty of 0.04-0.06mm/frame for velocity vectors and 0.002-0.01mm for the cylinder's positions.
