  • A novel a-Si TFT integrated gate driver circuit using multi-thread driving has been developed. The circuit consists of two independent shift registers alternating between the two modes, "wake" and "sleep". The degradation of the circuit is retarded because the bias stress is removed during the sleep mode. It has been successfully integrated in 14.1-in. XGA LCD Panel, showing enhanced stability.

  • We conducted visual perception experiments to determine the perception limits of motion blur based on human visual system at LCD TV's moving pictures. The motion blur can be expressed Blurred Edge Width (BEW). The results showed that the BEW of moving pictures should be below 3.4pixels (visual angle 4.2') at 3H distance in a living room environment.

  • A novel stereo 3D LCD for passive interference filter glasses is presented. A demonstrator based on a standard 120Hz LCD was set up. Stereoscopic image separation was realized in a time-sequential mode using a LED-based scanning backlight with two complementary spectra. A stereo brightness of 3 cd/$m^2$ and a channel separation of 30:1 were achieved.

  • Visual perception experiments were conducted to determine the acceptable limit of the contrast ratio of LCD TV under the watching condition. The results showed that the corresponding contrast ratio should be below 10,000:1 at the 3H(height of screen) distance in the living room environment.

  • Stereoscopic/autostereoscopic systems have been developed in order to express true 3D images, but have never had great success in the practical use. In order to apply 3D display to promising applications such as advertisements and games, we've developed a 42" 2D/3D switchable display. It has characteristics that don't require special glasses for 3D images, use multi-view technology for improving 3D viewing characteristics, and has a 2D/3D switching function to express dynamic 3D contents as well as conventional 2D contents.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D image player for LCD monitors as well as CRT monitors. As we consider an afterglow and digital processing of LCD monitors, a stereoscopic images can be shown on CRT monitors as well as LCD monitors using the proposed a3D image player. We have implemented a 3D image player using FPGA (MAX 9320), We show prove that a stereoscopic images are shown on the LCD monitors.

  • We have developed a reflective 3.5" QVGA color TFT-LCD with high reflection within viewing angle. For this, We have introduced new pixel design and asymmetric reflector. Based on these technical concepts, we get a high aperture ratio of 93.5% and much higher reflection up to 64% with a 3.5" prototype panel.

  • We have studied on response time of the fringe-field switching (FFS) TFT-LCD using the LCs with negative dielectric anisotropy related to rubbing angle. Simulation and experimental results shows that when a rubbing angle approached $45^{\circ}$, a slope of voltage-dependent curve is decreased such that the operation voltage is increased, however the whole response characteristic between inter-gray levels have a trend to be fast.

  • A new configuration of LCD projectors for polarized stereoscopic projection having no light loss in the polarization process is suggested. In the proposed system, two polarizing filters that are employed in the conventional LCD polarized stereoscopic projection system causing additional light loss and image distortion are excluded by taking into account of polarization property of the LCD projector and image processing techniques. From some experimental results by using the Type-1 LCD projectors, light loss of the proposed system occurring in the polarization process is found to be zero.
