퐁 음영법을 위한 3차원 그래픽 가속기의 구현 (An Implementation of 3D Graphic Accelerator for Phong Shading)

  • CAD/CAM, 3차원 모델링, 가상현실, 그리고 의학 영상의 처리 속도를 높이기 위한 3차원 가속기에 대한 많은 연구들이 진행 중이다. 본 논문에서는 3차원 그래픽 처리속도를 향상하기 위하여 SIMD처리기 구조의 3차원 가속기를 제안하며, 기존의 퐁 음영법을 제안된 구조에 맞게 병렬화하고 수행함으로써 직접적인 성능분석을 시도하였다. 3차원 SIMD 처리기 구조는 PCI 지역 버스 인터페이스, 16개의 처리기, 그리고 Park's 다중접근기억장치로 구성되며, 다중접근 기억장치는 17개의 외부 메모리 모듈을 갖는다. 기존의 직렬 퐁 음영법을 SIMD 처리기 구조에 수행될 수 있도록 하나의 다면체를 여러 개의 $4\times{4}$의 정방형 다면체로 나누어서 처리하는 병렬 퐁 음영 법으로 수정하였으며, 하나의 정방형 다면체는 다중접근기억장치가 간격이 1인 블록 접근이 가능하기 때문에 17개의 처리기가 동시에 처리할 수 있다. SIMD처리기 구조에서 수행되는 병렬화된 퐁 음영법을 하드웨어 모의실험 패키지인 CADENCE사의 Verilog-XL로 모의실험을 수행한 결과 5.14배의 속도향상을 보임을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서 개발된 시스템의 일차적인 목적은 지반조사에 사용될 3차원 탄성파 자료처리시스템으로써, 저렴한 환경의 시스템을 구축하기 위해 Linux 환경의 PC를 기반으로 개발되었다. 기본적인 자료처리 모듈들은 2차윈 탄성파 자료처리에 널리 사용되고 있는 SU(Seismic Unix)를 기반으로 하였으며, 3차원 지반조사에 적합하도록 추가적인 자료처리 모듈들이 개발되었다. 이러한 자료처리 모듈들을 이용하여 구축된 시스템은, 처리과정 중에 사용자가 쉽게 QC (Quality Control)를 할 수 있도록 GUI (Graphic User Interface)환경으로 설계되었으며, 이를 구현하기 위해 최근 Linux용 어플리케이션 개발에 보편적으로 쓰이는 GTK (Gimp Tool Kit)가 사용되었다.

The interface between users and the off-line program system in the Widows 98's graphic user interface environment was also studied. The developing language is Microsoft Visual C++. Graphic libraries, OpenGL, by Silicon Graphics, Inc. were utilized for 3D Graphics.

Development of an Automation Tool for the Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Machine Tool Spindles

  • In this study, an automation tool was developed for rapid evaluation of machine tool spindle designs with automated three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) using solid elements. The tool performs FEA with the minimum data of point coordinates to define the section of the spindle shaft and bearing positions. Using object-oriented programming techniques, the tool was implemented in the programming environment of a CAD system to make use of its objects. Its modules were constructed with the objects to generate the geometric model and then to convert it into the FE model of 3D solid elements at the workbenches of the CAD system using the point data. Graphic user interfaces were developed to allow users to interact with the tool. This tool is helpful for identification of a near optimal design of the spindle based on, for example, stiffness with multiple design changes and then FEAs.

  • It is impossible to do real verification on design spaces before their completions due to the characteristics of building and interior space designs. So, in designing spaces, designers should reflect their real experiences in their lives into their design works. 3D games where GPU and other kinds of advanced technologies have bee applied first show their leads in technologies have bee applied first show their leads in technologies about 5 years than VRML. Those games which are produced reflecting real environment as it is could be regarded as the most excellent tool in their completeness level of physical environment due to their characteristics. This means that if 3D game engines employing GPU are used effectively they could be used as a presentation tool for virtual spaces. This study studies the expressions of virtual constructions through 3D game engines employing GPU, not in VRML-based virtual spaces on Webs but in immersion-type virtual spaces.

  • An integrated program of driving simulator has been developed for excavators using the Motif, OpenGL, and C compiler. The developed program not only offers a GUI but also covers graphic algorithms, therefore, the user can easily run the driving simulator whose components include a simplified visual graphics system. Several graphics technique are combined and applied to the simulator program in order to increase the speed of graphical representation, which access computer memories, mix 2D models with 3D ones, and use the basic position detection method. A text format environment file has been utilized for organizing more flexible driving circumstances.
