Target-to-Clutter Ratio Enhancement of Images in Through-the-Wall Radar Using a Radiation Pattern-Based Delayed-Sum Algorithm

  • In this paper, we compare the quality of images reconstructed by a conventional delayed-sum (DS) algorithm and radiation pattern-based DS algorithm. In order to evaluate the quality of images, we apply the target-to-clutter ratio (TCR), which is commonly used in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image assessment. The radiation pattern-based DS algorithm enhances the TCR of the image by focusing the target signals and preventing contamination of the radar scene. We first consider synthetic data obtained through GprMax2D/3D, a finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) forward solver. Experimental data of a 2-GHz bandwidth stepped-frequency signal are collected using a vector network analyzer (VNA) in an anechoic chamber setup. The radiation pattern-based DS algorithm shows a 6.7-dB higher TCR compared to the conventional DS algorithm.

양쪽 끝이 열린 원통형 자기 실드캔의 3차원 자계 해석 (3-D Magnetic Field Simulation of Open-ended Cylinder Type Magnetic Shield)

  • 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석을 이용하여서 양쪽 끝이 열린 형상을 가진 원통형 3층 자기 실드를 설계하기 위한 해석을 수행하였다. 원통형 자성체의 투자율 범위 $2{\times}10^3\sim1{\times}10^5$에서 자기 차폐율을 검토하였고, 자성체의 길이 및 각 층간의 길이 차에 의한 자기 차폐율의 변화를 해석하였다. 투자율이 $2{\times}10^4$ 이상이고 각 층의 길이가 40 cm, 45 cm, 50 cm인 경우 -60 dB 이상의 자기 차폐율을 얻을 수 있었으며, 이때의 균일 자계 영역은 $10cm{\times}10cm-\phi$ 이상이었다.

  • A new 1*4 optical waveguide power divider is proposed and fabricated. It consists of a 1*4 multi-branch structure with a beam separator and two beam expanders that can control the splitting ratios between the output ports. The proposed optical waveguide power divider is designed by employing the two dimensional finite difference beam propagation method and is fabricated by a reactive ion etching method. The splitting ratio of fabricatd device is 25.0 : 25.7 : 25.3 : 24.0 for TE mode and 25.7 : 25.2 : 24.1 : 25.0 for TM mode. Comapred with the conventional Y-branch structure, the proposed structure shortens the length of a 1*N divider by the factor 3. Thus it reduces the total propagation loss and the total radiation loss at the branch points. furthermore, the splitting ratios between the output ports may be controlled in this structure for some special applications.

The Wide-band Two-element Microstrip Slot Array Antenna with the Cross-shaped Feedline

  • The design, numerical simulation, and an experimental implementation of two-element cross-shaped microstrip line-fed printed slot array antenna for IMT-2000 at the 2.0 GHz band is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna with relative permittivity 4.3 and thickness 1.0mm is analyzed by the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. It was shown that the measured 2.0 VSWR bandwidth of one-element microstrip slot antenna is from 1.42 GHz to 2.69 GHz, which is approximately 61.8% and that of two-element microstrip slot array antenna is from 1.42 GHz to 2.56 GHz, which is approximately 57.3% And it was shown that the measured gain of one-element microstrip slot antenna is 2.75 dBi and that of two-element microstrip slot antenna is 4.75 dEi. The antennas were fabricated and tested. The measured results are in good agreements with the FDTD results.

FDM을 이용한 층유유동장내에서 오염물질확산에 관한 연구 (Numerical Prediction of Contaminant Dispersion within the Laminar Flow Field using FDM)

  • A simulation of contaminant dispersion in a water reservoir has been done using 2-D finite difference method(FDM). The steady state velocity field of the reservoir was computed using stream function-vorticity formulation of Wavier-Stokes equation and continuity equation. Based on the computed steady state velocity field, the transient convective diffusion equation of the contaminant dispersion was computed. For the 1m$\times$1m reservoir model with inlet and outlet attached, it was shown that the center of circulation located toward right. For the numerical values of v =0.01($\textrm{cm}^2$/s) and D=0.6($\textrm{cm}^2$/s) and the flow of 50($\textrm{cm}^3$/s ), it was determined that the outflow had to be shut down in 18 seconds to prevent from severe pollution. Also the required time was computed to be 6 seconds for the inflow of 100 ($\textrm{cm}^3$/s). The result of this study is considered, hopefully, to be useful for the design of the water reservoir systems that are the subjects to various contamination.

  • A computer code for solving the 3-D time-dependent multigroup neutron diffusion equation by a coupled reactor kinetics method recently developed has been developed and for evaluating its applicability in CANDU transient analysis applied to a 3-D kinetics benchmark problem which reveals non-uniform loss of coolant accident followed by an asymmetric insertion of shutdown devices. The performance of the method and code has been compared with the CANDU design code, CERBERUS, employing a finite difference improved quasistatic method.

Pseudo 3D FEM analysis for wave passage effect on the response spectrum of a building built on soft soil layer

  • Spatially variable ground motions can be significant on the seismic response of a structure due to the incoherency of the incident wave. Incoherence of the incident wave is resulted from wave passage and wave scattering. In this study, wave passage effect on the response spectrum of a building structure built on a soft soil layer was investigated utilizing a finite element program of P3DASS (Pseudo 3-dimensional Dynamic Analysis of a Structure-soil System). P3DASS was developed for the axisymmetric problem in the cylindrical coordinate, but it is modified to apply anti-symmetric input earthquake motions. Study results were compared with the experimental results to verify the reliability of P3DASS program for the shear wave velocity of 250 m/s and the apparent shear wave velocities of 2000-3500 m/s. Studied transfer functions of input motions between surface mat foundation and free ground surface were well-agreed to the experimental ones with a small difference in all frequency ranges, showing some reductions of the transfer function in the high frequency range. Also wave passage effect on the elastic response spectrum reduced the elastic seismic response of a SDOF system somewhat in the short period range.

Ka-Band용 Half-Height Waveguide 전력 합성기 설계 (Design of a KaBand Half-Height Waveguide Power Combiner)

  • 본 논문에서는 half-height W/C(Waveguide)를 이용하여 Ka-band 대역의 위성통신용 전력합성기를 설계하였다. 낮은 삽입 손실과 포트간 아이솔레션 특성이 좋은 방향성 겨랗ㅂ기를 위성 통신용 전력합성기로서 채택하였다. half-height W/C를 이용하여 설계된 전력합성기는 full-height W/G를 사용하여 설계된 전력삽성기에 비하여 작은 부피와 무게를 가지기 때문에 크기와 무게면에서 많은 이점을 얻을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain)를 이용하여 half-height W/G 전력 합성기를 분석하고 설계 하였으며 full-height W/G로 구성된 전력 증폭기와 성능을 비교하였다. 또한 최적의 차수로 설계된 half-height 전력합성기를 제작하여 측정하였다. 설계된 half-height 전력합성기는 Ka-band 위성 통신용 대역(20.255~21.255 GHz)에서 삽입손실 0.3dB 이하, 반사손실 20 dB 이상, 포트간 분리도 20 dB 이상, 출력 포트간 위상차가 5$^{\circ}$ 이내의 특성을 만족하도록 설계되었다.

능동소자를 이용한 이중편파 특성의 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계 (A Design of Dual-Polarized Microstrip Antenna Using the Active Devices)

  • Feed horn polarizer나 F.R.R.S(Fraday Rotation Rotary Switch)에 비해 소형이고 GaAs MESFET소자 스위칭으로 좌수와 우수 원형편파의 선택적 수신이 가능한 이중편파 마이크로스트립 안테나를 설계하였다. 원형편과 마이크로스트립 안테나의 공진 주파수, 입력 임피던스, 빔 패턴 등은 FDTD 방법을 이용하여 정확하게 계산하였으며, 급전 회로의 GaAs MESFET 증폭기 스위칭 회로가 ON 상태일 경우의 증폭기 이득을 포함한 안테나 이득은 16.6dB 이고, OFF 상태일 경우의 격리 특성은 -24dB로 나타남을 실험으로 확인하였다. 또한, 제작된 이중편과 마이크로스트립 안테나의 3dB 이하 축비는 11.813GHz에서 30 이하로 나타났다.

IT 기반의 터널 최적 설계를 위한 시스템 개발 (Development of IT-based tunnel design system)

  • 본 논문에서는 IT 기술을 이용한 터널 자동화 설계 시스템 개발에 관한 내용을 다루었다. 먼저 개발 시스템에 대한 개념 및 개발 과정과 시스템을 구성하는 각 요소기술 및 개별 모듈 개발에 관한 내용을 기술하였다. 본 시스템의 요소기술인 ANN-기반의 터널 저동 예측 기술에 대해 그 개념과 ANN 학습과정 및 검증과정을 기술하였다 ANN-기반의 터널거동 예측은 FEM 및 FDM 등 연속체 기반의 해석을 토대로 구축한 DB를 ANN을 통해 일반화 한 후 개발된 엔진을 세부모듈에 접목시켜 별도의 해석 없이 유사 단면 혹은 현장에 적용이 가능하도록 하였다. 본 논문에서는 구체적인 개발과정과 향후 적용방향에 대해 구체적인 내용을 기술하였다.
