Analysis of lenticular 3D liquid crystal displays using 3D pixel simulator

  • In this paper, an accurate ray-tracing based visual analysis method of lenticular 3D liquid liquid crystal display (LCDs) and some analysis results are presented. In the developed method, the geometric optics analysis is performed on the single 3D unit pixel of 3D lenticular LCD. It is shown that the display characteristics of 3D lenticular LCD panels of arbitrary size can be evaluated through the 3D unit pixel analysis. The analysis results of a few representative structures of 3D lenticular LCDs are compared.

  • PDA와 같은 이동단말에서 화려한 3D 그래픽을 보여주는 것은 그래픽 시스템 리소스의 제약이 있다. Mobile 3D 엔진은 모델의 움직임을 계산하여 동적으로 3D 그래픽을 만들어 내기 때문에 그래픽 시스템 뿐만 아니라, 충분한 성능의 프로세서와 여유의 메모리까지 지원되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 Mobile 3D 엔진의 제약 사항과 그 해결 방법을 제시하였다. ARM9 Core를 기반으로 3D 가속 기능을 가진 VRender3D에 실제로 OpenGL/ES를 기반으로 하는 Mobile 3D 엔진을 포팅 (porting) 하고, 그 성능을 동적인 3D 영상으로 평가하였다.

  • The world largest 21.3" LTPS LCD has been successfully developed using SLS crystallization technology. Successful integration of gate circuit, transmission gate and level shifter was performed in a large area uniformly. Uniformity and high performance from high quality grains of SLS technology make it possible to come true a uniform large size LTPS TFT-LCD with half number of data driver IC's used in typical a-Si LCD. High aperture ratio of 65% was obtained using an organic inter insulating method, which lead a high brightness of 500cd/cm2.

  • Stereoscopic/autostereoscopic systems have been developed in order to express true 3D images, but have never had great success in the practical use. In order to apply 3D display to promising applications such as advertisements and games, we've developed a 42" 2D/3D switchable display. It has characteristics that don't require special glasses for 3D images, use multi-view technology for improving 3D viewing characteristics, and has a 2D/3D switching function to express dynamic 3D contents as well as conventional 2D contents.

  • The cross-talk, which occurs due to the phosphor decay time, is a critical problem in the 3D PDP TV. First, we investigated the factors that affected the cross-talk in waveforms. After the investigation, we designed the driving waveforms for the 3D PDP TV. We also obtained a better result by controlling the driving timing of 3D active glasses.

  • 본 논문에서는 3DTV 의 입체감 향상을 위한 3D 음향의 원근감 재현 기술을 제안한다. 먼저, 3D 영상 객체의 깊이를 추출하고 영상 객체의 깊이에 따라 오디오 객체의 거리감을 조절한다. 오디오 거리감 재현을 위해 필요한 오디오 깊이 인자는 3D 영상의 좌/우 이미지의 차이 정보로부터 오디오에 맞도록 비선형 변환을 통해 구해진다. 3D 오디오 재현 알고리즘은 기존의 서라운드 입체음향 기술과 원근감 재현 기술로 구성된다. 원근감 재현 기술은 추정된 오디오 깊이 인자에 따라 신호크기, 초기 반사음, 근거리 머리전달함수, 위상 제어를 통해서 구현된다. 특히, 3D 영상 객체가 화면 앞으로 튀어 나올 때 소리도 튀어나오도록 함으로써 3D 영상 객체와 연동되는 입체 음향을 효과를 통해 3D 방송 시청 시 오디오/비디오 입체감을 향상시켜준다. 상용화된 3DTV 를 활용하여 음질 평가 전문가들의 주관 청취 평가를 통해 제안한 원근감 재현 기술이 3D 방송 시청에 적합함을 검증한다.
