This thesis explores the problem of reconstructing a three-dimensional(3D) scene given a set of images or image sequences of the scene. It describes efficient methods for the 3D reconstruction of static and dynamic scenes from stereo images, stereo image sequences, and images captured from multiple viewpoints. Novel methods for image-based and volumetric modelling approaches to 3D reconstruction are presented, with an emphasis on the development of efficient algorithm which produce high quality and accurate reconstructions. For image-based 3D reconstruction a novel energy minimisation scheme, Iterated Dynamic Programming, is presented for the efficient computation of strong local minima of discontinuity preserving energyy functions. Coupled with a novel morphological decomposition method and subregioning schemes for the efficient computation of a narrowband matching cost volume. the minimisation framework is applied to solve problems in stereo matching, stereo-temporal reconstruction, motion estimation, 2D image registration and 3D image registration. This thesis establishes Iterated Dynamic Programming as an efficient and effective energy minimisation scheme suitable for computer vision problems which involve finding correspondences across images. For 3D reconstruction from multiple view images with arbitrary camera placement, a novel volumetric modelling technique, Embedded Voxel Colouring, is presented that efficiently embeds all reconstructions of a 3D scene into a single output in a single scan of the volumetric space under exact visibility. An adaptive thresholding framework is also introduced for the computation of the optimal set of thresholds to obtain high quality 3D reconstructions. This thesis establishes the Embedded Voxel Colouring framework as a fast, efficient and effective method for 3D reconstruction from multiple view images.

In this study, the anisotropic mechanical property of fused deposition modeling three-dimensional (3D) printing based on lamination direction was verified by a tensile test. Moreover, the property was applied to solid isotropic materials with penalization-based topology optimization. The case of the lower control arm, one of the automotive suspension components, was considered as a benchmark problem. The optimal topological results varied depending on the external load and anisotropic property. Based on these results, two test specimens were fabricated by varying the lamination direction of 3D printing; a tensile test utilizing 3D non-contact strain gauge was also conducted. The measured strain was compared with that obtained by computer-aided engineering response analysis. Quantitatively, the measurement and analysis results are found to have good agreement. The effectiveness of topology optimization considering the lamination direction of 3D printing was confirmed by the experimental result.

There wasn't very successful practice cases for the quantity take-off based on the CAD system since the CAD system is used in the construction industry more than 20 years in Korea. It was also not easy to use 3D CAD system in design management and cost management in the construction industry although 3D CAD system is very successful in the manufacturing industry for those areas recently. It is important to construct 3D libraries and to supply those libraries for the designers in time. Architectural work is a kind of creative work. So, Architects like to create their own model. Unlike the manufacturing industry, 3D CAD system can not be survived in the construction industry without new 3D objects supply in the right time. Moreover, the estimation system for 3D must support the schematic design phase, detailed design phase and construction design phase. The product called "Constructor" of Graphisoft consist of modeller, estimator and scheduler based on 3D model. We applied the system to a real project and compared the estimation result and we made a very successful case study.
Due to the recent developments of attaining 3D contents by using devices such as 3D scanners, the diversity of the contents being used in AR(Augmented Reality)/VR(Virutal Reality) fields is significantly increasing. There are several ways to represent 3D data, and using point clouds is one of them. A point cloud is a cluster of points, having the advantage of being able to attain actual 3D data with high precision. However, in order to express 3D contents, much more data is required compared to that of 2D images. The size of data needed to represent dynamic 3D point cloud objects that consists of multiple frames is especially big, and that is why an efficient compression technology for this kind of data must be developed. In this paper, a motion estimation and compensation method for dynamic point cloud objects using 3D DCT is proposed. This will lead to switching the 3D video frames into I frames and P frames, which ensures higher compression ratio. Then, we confirm the compression efficiency of the proposed technology by comparing it with the anchor technology, an Intra-frame based compression method, and 2D-DCT based V-PCC.

In order to respond and prevent underground safety accidents, the Korean government has been preparing a submitting completion drawing web system project for converting the current manual-based 3D Underground Geospatial Map construction and its update system to an automation-based 3D underground information construction. However, research on standard drawings required for the automatic update of 3D underground structures is insufficient, so detailed research is needed. In this research paper, a standard map-based 3D underground structure construction plan was presented for the six types of underground structures constituting the 3D Underground Geospatial Map, enabling rapid and accurate drawing data creation and systematically 3D underground structure drawing data could be managed. In addition, we developed a 3D construction drawing tool that can be used in underground information practice so that ordinary CAD program users can easily produce processing drawings. The results derived from this paper are expected to be major reference materials for the establishment of standard frameworks and practical application guidelines for the construction of 3D underground structures in the future.
The three dimensional quantitative structure activity relationship (3D QSAR) models were developed using Comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA), comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) and docking studies. The fit of Quinazolinone antifolates inside the active site of modeled bovine dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) was assessed. Both ligand based (LB) and receptor based (RB) QSAR models were generated, these models showed good internal and external statistical reliability that is evident from the $q^2_{loo}$, $r^2_{ncv}$ and $r^2_{pred}$. The identified key features enabled us to design new Quinazolinone analogues as DHFR inhibitors. This study is a building bridge between docking studies of homology modeled bovine DHFR protein as well as ligand and target based 3D QSAR techniques of CoMFA and CoMSIA approaches.
This paper presents a fast 3D mesh generation method using a surface based method with a stitching algorithm. This method uses the surface based method since the volume based method that uses 3D Delaunay triangulation can hardly deal with a large scale of scanned points. To reduce the processing time, this method also uses a stitching algorithm: after dividing the whole point data into several sections and performing mesh generation on individual sections, the meshes from several sections are stitched into one mesh. Stitching method prevents the surface based method from increasing the processing time exponentially as the number of the points increases. This method works well with different types of scanned points: a scattered type points from a conventional 3D scanner and a cross-sectional type from CT or MRI.
Recently, 3D printing technology, which is suitable for small-volume production of many varieties, has become considered a key manufacturing technology in the 4th industrial revolution. However, the nature of 3D printing technology means it is not yet able to be applied to traditional textiles due to Fabric Flexibility. The aim of this study is to investigate Textile Structural Design by finding the optimal yarn thickness for Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printed structures on geogrid dobby woven fabric that gives the optimal flexibility and tensile strength in the final product. The test results for tensile load strength of the 3D printed test samples, using 1.0mm, 0.8mm, 0.6mm and 0.4mm yarn thicknesses, showed that all were found to be above 250N, this higher than the tensile strength of 180N that is recommended for textile products. Based on these results, the four dobby structural patterns with 3D printing produced had four yarn thicknesses: 1.0mm, 0.8mm, 0.6mm, and 0.4mm. The thinner the yarn, the more flexible the fabric; as such the optimal conditions to produce SLS-based 3D printed textiles with suitable strength and flexibility used a thickness of yarn in the range of 0.4mm to 0.6mm.

In this study, biocomposite filaments with agricultural by-products can be used in extrusion-based 3D (Three-dimensional) printing. Extrusion-based 3D printing stands as a promising technique owing to its versatility. We hypothesized that bio-filament composite consisted of something derived from agricultural by-products could be used as 3D printing materials that could overcome the drawbacks of PCL (poly-caprolactone). Bio-filament mixed with PCL and agricultural by-products was defined as r-PCL in this study. In order to find it out the optimal mixing ratio of filaments, we had investigated PCL, r-PCL 10%, r-PCL 20%, r-PCL 50% separately. The morphological and chemical characteristics of the filaments were analyzed by FE-SEM (Field emission scanning electron microscope) and EDX (Energy-dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy), and the mechanical properties were evaluated by stress-strain curve, water contact angle, and cytotoxicity analysis. Results of this study have been shown as a promising way to produce eco-friendly bio-filaments composite for FDM (Fused deposition modeling) method based 3D printing technology. Thus, we could establish biomimetic scaffolds based on bio-printer filaments mixed with agricultural by-product.

The 3D geospatial modeling of geotechnical information can aid in understanding the geotechnical characteristic values of the continuous subsurface at construction sites. In this study, a geostatistical optimization model for the three-dimensional (3D) mapping of subsurface stratification and the SPT-N value based on a trial-and-error rule was developed and applied to a dam emergency spillway site in South Korea. Geospatial database development for a geotechnical investigation, reconstitution of the target grid volume, and detection of outliers in the borehole dataset were implemented prior to the 3D modeling. For the site-specific subsurface stratification of the engineering geo-layer, we developed an integration method for the borehole and geophysical survey datasets based on the geostatistical optimization procedure of ordinary kriging and sequential Gaussian simulation (SGS) by comparing their cross-validation-based prediction residuals. We also developed an optimization technique based on SGS for estimating the 3D geometry of the SPT-N value. This method involves quantitatively testing the reliability of SGS and selecting the realizations with a high estimation accuracy. Boring tests were performed for validation, and the proposed method yielded more accurate prediction results and reproduced the spatial distribution of geotechnical information more effectively than the conventional geostatistical approach.
