  • In this paper, the three-dimensional finite element model is established to investigate the structural dynamic characteristics of rotor blade using a finite element analysis. Six natural frequencies and mode shapes are calculated by computer simulation. The first three flapping modal frequencies, the first two lead-lag modal frequencies, and the first feathering modal frequency are validated through comparison with the modal test results of the fixed rotor blade. The computer simulation results are found in good agreement with experimentally measured natural frequencies. The important results are obtained as follows: (1) Natural frequencies are changed due to the variation of rotational speed and fiber angle of rotor blade, (2) Weak coupling between flapping mode shape and lead-lag mode shape are detected, (3) Centrifugal force has more effect on flapping modal frequency than lead-lag modal frequency.

  • This paper is motivated by the lack of studies in the technical literature concerning to the influence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness and aspect ratio on the vibrational behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite annular sector plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. The carbon nanotube-reinforced (CNTR) plate has smooth variation of CNT fraction based on the power-law distribution in the thickness direction, and the material properties are also estimated by the extended rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes' effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. Parametric studies are carried out to highlight the influence of CNTs volume fraction, waviness and aspect ratio, boundary conditions and elastic foundation on vibrational behavior of FG-CNT thick sectorial plates. The study is carried out based on three-dimensional theory of elasticity and in contrary to two-dimensional theories, such as classical, the first- and the higher-order shear deformation plate theories, this approach does not neglect transverse normal deformations. The annular sector plate is assumed to be simply supported in the radial edges while any arbitrary boundary conditions are applied to the other two circular edges including simply supported, clamped and free. For an overall comprehension on 3-D vibration of annular sector plates, some mode shape contour plots are reported in this research work.

  • This study investigates the safety assessment of the potential for fretting-wear damages on steam generator (SG) U-tubes caused by foreign object in operating nuclear power plants. The operating SG shell-side flow field conditions are obtained from three-dimensional SG flow calculation using the ATHOS3 code. Modal analyses are performed for the finite element modelings of U-tubes to get the natural frequency, corresponding mode shape and participation factor. The wear rate of U-tube caused by foreign object is calculated using the Archard formula and the remaining life of the tube is predicted. Also, discussed in this study is the effect of the flow velocity and vibration of the tube on the remaining life of the tube.

  • The Ritz method Is applied In a three-dimensional (3-D) analysis to obtain accurate frequencies for thick. linearly tapered. annular plates. The method is formulated for annular plates haying any combination of free or fixed boundaries at both Inner and outer edges. Admissible functions for the three displacement components are chosen as trigonometric functions in the circumferential co-ordinate. and a1gebraic polynomials in the radial and thickness co-ordinates. Upper bound convergence of the non-dimensional frequencies to the exact values within at least four significant figures is demonstrated. Comparisons of results for annular plates with linearly varying thickness are made with ones obtained by others using 2-D classical thin place theory. Extensive and accurate ( four significant figures ) frequencies are presented 7or completely free. thick, linearly tapered annular plates haying ratios of average place thickness to difference between outer radius (a) and inner radius (b) radios (h$_{m}$/L) of 0.1 and 0.2 for b/L=0.2 and 0.5. All 3-D modes are included in the analyses : e.g., flexural, thickness-shear. In-plane stretching, and torsional. Because frequency data liven is exact 7o a\ulcorner least four digits. It is benchmark data against which the results from other methods (e.g.. 2-D 7hick plate theory, finite element methods. finite difference methods) and may be compared. • In this study, lateral vibration analysis has been conducted on a propulsion and lift shafting system for an air cushion vehicle using ANSYS code. The shafting system is totally flexible multi-elements system including air propeller, aluminum alloy of lift fan and thin walled shaft with flexible coupling. The analysis included the lateral natural frequencies, mode shapes and harmonic analysis of the shafting system taking into account three-dimensional models for propulsion and lifting shaft system. In case of ACV the yawing and pitching rate of craft will be quite high. During yawing and pitching of craft significant gyroscopic moment will be applied to the shafting and will generate high amplitude of lateral vibration. So, such a shafting system has very intricate lateral vibrating characteristics and natural frequencies of shafting must be avoided in the range of operating revolution. The control of lateral vibration is included in this study.

  • In this study, axial vibration analysis has been conducted on a propulsion and lift shafting system for an air cushion vehicle using ANSYS code. The shafting system is totally flexible multi-elements system including wood composite material of air propeller. aluminum alloy of lift fan and thin walled shaft with flexible coupling. The analysis calculated the axial natural frequencies and mode shapes of the shafting system taking into account an equivalent mass-elastic model for shafting system as well as the three-dimensional models for propeller blade and fan impeller. Such a flexible shafting system has very intricate vibrating characteristics and especially, axial natural frequencies of flexible components such as propeller blade and impeller of lift fan can be lower to the extent that causes a resonance in the range of operating revolution. The results for axial vibration analysis are presented and compared with the results of axial vibration test for lift fan conducted during Sea Trial.

  • Dynamic behaviour of beam carrying masses has attracted attention of many researchers and engineers. Many studies on the analytical solution of beam with concentric tip mass have been published. However, there are limited works on vibration analysis of beam with an eccentric three dimensional object. In this case, bending and torsional deformations of beam are coupled due to the boundary conditions. Analytical solution of equations of motion of the system is complicated and lengthy. Therefore, in this study, Differential Transform Method (DTM) is applied to solve the relevant equations. First, the Timoshenko beam with 3D tip attachment whose centre of gravity is not coincident with beam end point is considered. The beam is assumed to undergo bending in two orthogonal planes and torsional deformation about beam axis. Using Hamilton's principle the equations of motion of the system along with the possible boundary conditions are derived. Later DTM is applied to obtain natural frequencies and mode shapes of the system. According to the relevant literature DTM has not been applied to such a system so far. Moreover, the problem is modelled by Ansys, the well-known finite element method, and impact test is applied to extract experimental modal data. Comparing DTM results with finite element and experimental results it is concluded that the proposed approach produces accurate results.

  • This paper presents a three-dimensional displacement-based formulation to investigate the free vibration of functionally graded nanoplates resting on a Winkler-Pasternak foundation based on the nonlocal elasticity theory. The material properties of the FG nanoplate are considered to vary continuously through the thickness of the nanoplate according to the power-law distribution model. A general three-dimensional displacement field is considered for the plate, which takes into account the out-of-plane strains of the plate as well as the in-plane strains. Unlike the shear deformation theories, in the present formulation, no predetermined form for the distribution of displacements and transverse strains is considered. The equations of motion for functionally graded nanoplate are derived based on Hamilton's principle. The solution is obtained for simply-supported nanoplate, and the predicted results for natural frequencies are compared with the predictions of shear deformation theories which are available in the literature. The predictions of the present theory are discussed in detail to investigate the effects of power-law index, length-to-thickness ratio, mode numbers and the elastic foundation on the dynamic behavior of the functionally graded nanoplate. The present study presents a three-dimensional solution that is able to determine more accurate results in predicting of the natural frequencies of flexural and thickness modes of nanoplates. The effects of parameters that play a key role in the analysis and mechanical design of functionally graded nanoplates are investigated.

  • The bridge to be analyzed is a self-anchored suspension bridge which is constructed within the country. Forced vibration test was performed with oscillator for verification of safety, maintenance and management. In this study, the feasibility of deduction was verified with the modified analysis model by comparing natural frequency, natural mode and damping ratio of the real bridge, which are obtained from the vibration test of the whole bridge after construction of 3-dimensional self-anchored cable suspension bridge, with the eigenvalue of analytic computation model and evaluating them. As a result of study, the friction of bridge bearing must be considered to get the natural frequencies of flexural vibration, and evaluating the polar moment of inertia is critical factor in analysis modeling in case of torsional vibration. The logarithmic damping ratio of the test appeared to exceed the ordinary one assumed at the design phase.

  • In this paper, the condensation method which is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method, is described for the free vibration analysis of axially loaded slightly curved beams subject to partial axial restraints. If the longitudinal inertia is neglected, some of the Rayleigh-Ritz minimization equations are independent of the frequency. These equations can be used to formulate a relationship between the weighting coefficients associated with the lateral and longitudinal displacements, which leads to "connection coefficient matrix". Once this matrix is formed, it is then substituted into the remaining Rayleigh-Ritz equations to obtain an eigenvalue equation with a reduced matrix size. This method has been applied to simply supported and partially clamped beams with three different shapes of imperfection. The results indicate that for small imperfections resembling the fundamental vibration mode, the sum of the square of the fundamental natural and a non-dimensional axial load ratio normalized with respect to the fundamental critical load is approximately proportional to the square of the central displacement.
