  • A three dimensional feed horn 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength infrared antenna has been suggested, fabricated and characterized. It was applied to an infrared detector for efficient collecting of IR radiation and for reducing background noise. The horn antenna size was designed for maximum antenna directivity. The 3D feed horn antenna mold was fabricated using rotating and tilted illumination while the antenna plate was constructed by way of electroplating. Antenna characteristics were measured by coupling with a microbolometer. Measurement results indicated that the directivity of the antenna is 16.1㏈ and the background noise is reduced by approximately two times.

  • Recently, the number of the use of Digital Photogrammetry is increasing, the Digital Photogrammetry is used for the acquisition of images, remote sensing and three dimension location. Especially, the three dimension location is more activated to use digital camera for the Digital Photogrammetry. The reason is that it is cheap and easy to use and also it has high confidence. Using non-metric digital camera not metric camera, in this research, to get images and apply the images to the Direct Liner Transformation which is one of the techniques in Digital Photogrammetry to get three dimensional location of a point. Ⅰ programmed the procedure with Visual C++ to get the position of points speedly and I tested possibility whether it can analyze the displacement and the existence of structure with measurement system which is structured by a inexpensive non-metric digital camera.

  • The application of compressive sensing (CS) to a radar imaging system based on a frequency-scanned microstrip leaky wave antenna is investigated. First, an analytical model of the system matrix is formulated as the basis for the inversion algorithm. Then, $L_1-norm$ minimization is applied to the inverse problem to generate a range-azimuth image of the scene. Because of the antenna length, the near-field effect is considered in the CS formulation to properly image close-in targets. The resolving capability of the combined frequency-scanned antenna and CS processing is examined and compared to results based on the short-time Fourier transform and the pseudo-inverse. Both simulation and measurement data are tested to show the system performance in terms of image resolution.

  • For the extension of application in flash method measuring the thermophysical properties of materials, the heat diffusion equation with the heat transfer loss from front, rear, and circumferential surfaces of two layer cylinderical sample is mathematically analyzed by means of Green's function for axially symmetric pulse heating on the front of samples. The solutions are applied to determine the unknown thermal diffusivity of the two materials and analyzed the measurement error due to heat loss and finite pulse time effects.

  • Micro-PIV(particle image velocimetry) has been widely used to measure the velocity of micro flow. Although this micro-PIV method can give accurate 2D instantaneous velocity information of mea-surement plane, it cannot resolve the out of plane component of velocity vectors. Lots of the micro fluidic devices generate three-dimensional flow and 3D measurement of velocity is useful to understand the physics of micro flow phenomena. In this study, we constructed stereoscopic micro-PIV(SMPIV) system and applied this method to the impinging micro jet flow. The results show that this method can produce accu-rate 3D reconstruction of micro jet flow.

  • The measurement from the indentation process depends on the amount of pile-up or sink-in around the contact impressions. In this paper, finite element concept is utilized to study the pile-up and sink-in behaviour for the wide range of materials with different young's modulus, yield stresses, strain-hardening exponents and coefficient of friction values. The exact indentation model is created by using the two dimensional axisymmetrical model for simulating the spherical indentation process on the lines of Taljat and Pharr (2004) work. The result shows that during spherical indentation process the amount of pile-up is greatly influenced by the strain hardening exponents in addition to other material properties and depth of penetration. The numerical results from the finite element analysis are also validated using the exact multilinear material properties obtained from the tensile testing for the materials like mild steel, brass and aluminium.

  • The governing equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates for a 3D pulsatile flow are the Incompressible Navier-Stokes (INS) equations with the artificial dissipative terms and continuity equation discretized using a second-order accurate, finite volume method on the nonstaggered computational grid. This method adopts a dual or pseudo time-stepping Artificial Compressibility (AC) method integrated in pseudo-time. The computational technique implements the implicit approximate factorization method of the Beam and Warming method (1978), which is the extension of the Alternate Direction Implicit (ADI) method. The algorithm yields practically identical velocity profiles and secondary flows that are in excellent overall agreement with an experimental measurement (Rindt & Steenhoven, 1991).

  • Our goal is the development of a system that estimates the location of interested point in a room with accuracy and low cost. Non-contacting position estimating method is widely used in various areas. Among these methods, acoustic signal-based method is the cheapest and provides reasonably accurate estimation as a result of many research efforts. Most of the acoustic-signal-based three-dimensional location estimators such as 3D sonic digitizer are using the ultrasound, and are organized with two procedures; time-of-flight (TOF) estimation and localization estimation. Since the errors in estimating the TOF could be accumulated with that of localization estimate, accuracy of TOF estimate is as...

  • Measurement of welding residual stresses is one of important tasks to assess the structural integrity of welded structures. For operating components, especially, nondestructive techniques are required. By now, authors have proposed a new residual stress evaluation method, the bead flush method, where residual stresses are calculated from eigenstrain distribution determined by surface removal of reinforcement. In this paper, a brief description of the bead flush method is given and its utility and problem to be overcome are discussed. And also stabilization method of solution set of eigenstrain in inverse analysis is proposed.

  • In this paper, a precision measuring machine for large sized axial fans of cooling towers are developed. A laser sensor is used as a measuring device and aluminum profiles and stepping motors are engaged into the system as frame structure and driving devices respectively. 3-dimensional measuring data are compared to the design data to compute the distortion of the axial fans. Two distortions such as the axis of the fan and the airfoils along the axis are introduced to define the shape precision of axial fans. Genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem during computing the distortion. Results of distortion are displayed 3 dimensionally in a solid-modeler as well as 2-D drawings to help users find it with case.
