In this study, Acquisition system is proposed to acquire 3 dimensional data of the free surface model using direct pulse control to machining center. Todo this, I/F to connect between manual operating handle and computer is made, and 3 dimensional shape measuring algorithm using Z-map is applied. The 3 dimensional shape data of the free surface model measured by laser displacement sensor and electric touch probe are achieved directly. Performance of the proposed system is evaluated through measurement of various shape model.
This paper proposes precision evaluation method for the positioning error of three-DOF translational parallel mechanism. The proposed method uses conventional CMM as metrology equipment to measure the position of end-effector. In order to obtain accurate measurement data from CMM, the transform relationship between the coordinate system of the parallel mechanism and the CMM coordinate system must be identified. For this purpose, a new coordinate referencing (or coordinate system identification) technique is presented. By using this technique accurate coordinate transformation relationships are efficiently established. According to these coordinate transformation relationships, an equation to calculate error components at any arbitrary position of the end-effector is derived. In addition, mathematical fitting models to represent the position error components in the two-dimensional workspace of the parallel mechanism are also constructed based on response surface methodology. The proposed error evaluation method proves its effectiveness through the experimental results and its application to real three-DOF parallel mechanism.
The authors have realized reconstruction of 3D shape using contacting method with pins and TCP/IP communication. In this paper, the working principal of the mechanism is proposed and tested. A special sensor system is designed as 148 matrix form to measure 3D shape. When contact occurs between pin and the plate of the sensor matrix, the position information of pins is sent to computer and raised height data of the pin is obtained by counter which accumlates encoder signal. So, all datum which contain 3-dimensional coordinate, is transferred using TCP/IP communication. Finally, 3D shape is reconstructured by Web browser of remote computer. The measuring result shows that the proposed mechanism is reliable and promising as a remote measuring device through Internet.
In this paper, a precision measuring machine for large sized axial fans of cooling towers are developed. A laser sensor is used as a measuring device and aluminum profiles and stepping motors are engaged into the system as frame structure and driving devices respectively. 3-dimensional measuring data are compared to the design data to compute the distortion of the axial fans. Two distortions such as the axis of the fan and the airfoils along the axis are introduced to define the shape precision of axial fans. Genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem during computing the distortion. Results of distortion are displayed 3 dimensionally in a solid-modeler as well as 2-D drawings to help users find it with case.
A method for measuring the accuracy of rotating objects was studied. Rotating axis errors are significant; such as the spindle error of a manufacturing machine which results in the surface roughness of machined work pieces. Three capacitance type displacement sensors were used to measure the rotating master ball position. The sensors were mounted to the three orthogonal points on the spindle axis. The measurement data were analyzed and shown for rotating spindle accuracy, not only for average roundness error but also for spindle volumetric positional error during the revolutions. This method is simple and economical for industrial field use with regular inspection of rotating machines using portable equipment. Measuring and analyzing time using this method takes only a couple of hours. This method can also measure microscopic amplitude and 3-dimensional direction of vibrating objects.
This paper presents a multiple sensor system for rapid and high-precision coordinate data acquisition in the OMM (On-machine measurement) process. In this research, three sensors (touch probe, laser, and vision sensor) are integrated to obtain more accurate measuring results. The touch-type probe has high accuracy, but is time-consuming. Vision sensor can acquire many point data rapidly over a spatial range but its accuracy is less than other sensors. Also, it is not possible to acquire data for invisible areas. Laser sensor has medium accuracy and measuring speed among the sensors, and can acquire data for sharp or rounded edge and the features with very small holes and/or grooves. However, it has range- constraints to use because of its system structure. In this research, a new optimum sensor integration method for OMM is proposed by integrating the multiple-sensor to accomplish mote effective inspection planning. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation and experimental works are performed, and the results are analyzed.
The tank engine clutch flange constitutes a tank on which the engine and transmission of the tank are mounted. The engine clutch flange is fabricated using a difficult-to-cut material that exhibits high strength and hardness. It is difficult to process and requires considerable processing expertise. In addition, the engine clutch flange for the tank requires high machining precision because it is a system in which the connection is detachable. Because it requires high processing precision, the measurement of products equally important as processing. However, productivity is low owing to the significant amount of time required to measure each product using a three-dimensional coordinate measuring machine. Hence, this study is conducted to improve the productivity of the female tank engine clutch flange. Dedicated hobs and jigs are designed and manufactured to convert the existing end-mill cutting processing into hobbing cutting processing. An engine clutch for the tanks is manufactured using the manufactured dedicated hob and jig, and the shortening time is verified by measuring the processing time. In addition, a jig for inspection is designed and manufactured to measure the precision of the product. To verify the inspected product, the product precision is measured using a contact-type three-dimensional coordinate measuring machine and a surface roughness measuring instrument. The study confirmed that the productivity of the engine clutch flange product for tanks can be improved by simplifying the process, reducing the processing time, and simplifying product inspection.
One of the traditional optical methods to monitor a tool is a CCD sensor-based vision system which captures an aspect of the tool in real time. In the case using the CCD sensor, specific lens-modules are necessary to monitor the tool with higher resolution than its pixel size, and a microprocessor is required to attain desired data from captured images. Thus theses additional devices make the entire measurement system complex. Another method is to use a pair of an optical source and a detector per measuring axis. Since the method is based on the intensity modulation, the structure of the measurement system is simper than the CCD sensor-based vision system. However, in the case measuring the three dimensional position of the tool, it is difficult to apply to micro machine-tools because there may not be space to integrate three pairs of an optical source and a detector. In this paper, in order to develop a tool-origin measurement system which is employed in micro machine-tools, the improved method to measure a tool origin in x, y and z axes is introduced. The method is based on the intensity modulation and employs one pair of an optical source radiating divergent beams and a quadrant photodiode to detect a three dimensional position of the tool. This paper presents the measurement models of the proposed tool-origin sensor. The models were verified experimentally The verification results show that the proposed method is possible and the induced models are available for design.
Statement of problem. In Korea, the preliminary impression trays for dental and edentulous maxillae are manufactured on the base of the statistical value of Westerners. There had been less study on the dental and edentulous arches of Koreans. Purpose. The use of alginate impression materials today is prevalent because of its efficiency and simplicity in clinical settings. Unfortunately, the simplicity of the procedure tends to lull the dentist into a sense of well-being, and lead him into using careless or sloppy technique. Alginate impression materials are used to fabricate diagnostic and preliminary casts, and the final cast. Incorrect use of this material is known to affect the accuracy of the final prosthesis. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of different mixing methods of alginate impression material and tray adhesive on the accuracy of the stone cast produced by each method. A total of 30 stone casts were produced by using 3 different types of mixing methods (10 stone cast for each mixing method, respectively). The first method utilized an automatic-mixing machine to mix alginate while the second method was carried out manually, strictly following manufacturer's instructions. The third method also involved manual mixing, but did not follow the manufacturer's instructions and was done in a random fashion. Also, 20 additional stone casts were produced by using alginate with or without tray adhesives were included in the study to evaluate effects of tray adhesives on the accuracy of alginate impression. 10 stone casts were produced by adding tray adhesives to the interior surface of the impression tray prior to taking the impression. The other 10 excluded this step. A total of 50 stone casts were analyzed by the three-dimensional measuring machine to measure and compare the dimensional changes of the impression material of each group. The results are as follows. 1. No significant difference was found between the automatic mixing group and the manually-mixing group(p>0.05). 2. For the group that followed manufacturer's instructions, less dimensional changes were record ed than the group that didn't in measuring distanced 4(p<0.05). 3. The group that used tray adhesives showed less dimensional changes(p<0.05). The findings revealed that mechanical methods of mixing alginate impression materials had little influence on dimensional changes. However, it is proven that following manufacturers instructions in alginate impression taking is an important step in acquiring accurate impressions and tray adhesives may play an important role in enhancing the results.
