Passive sonar system forms the various beams in any desired directions to obtain the improvement in Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio, bearing detection and localization of targets, and the attenuation of interferences from other directions. The improvement of beamforming is very important to detect modern underwater targets as noise reduction technology leads to considerably low-level acoustic emissions in the long range in complex environmental sea. In this paper, we proposed the spatial cross correlation beamforming (SCCBF) algorithm using cross correlation matrix of individual hydrophone pairs of linear array sensors. By the theoretical analysis and simulation, the proposed SCCBF is demonstrated that its performances compared to conventional beamforming (CBF) output can be obtain above 3dB of array gain and about half of beam width represented the bearing accuracy in target detection. Also, this paper presents sea test result of linear passive sonar system that the proposed algorithm implemented.

This paper describes beam-tilting characteristics of horizontally polarized EMCD (electromagnetically coupled dipole) array antennas. The result of one element radiator is used for array elements designs and is evaluated its characteristics. Theoretical frequency characteristics and radiation pattern of the horizontally polarized EMCD array antennas analyzed by FDTD method agree well with the measured results of the practically fabricated way antennas. The measured main beam tilt ang1e and 3 dB beam width of the fabricated 20-element array antennas are 47$^{\circ}$and about $\pm$7.5$^{\circ}$, respectively. A good radiation pattern and beam tilting characteristics are observed in experiments.

Meteor Burst Communication can provide effective and economical means of communication where long distance VHF NLOS data transmission is needed; often ranges more than 1000 km. It has been, however, so far considered unsuitable for short distance application because of phenomenal decrease in burst durations, which leads to decreation of total duty rate of the system. This paper extensively analyzes characteristics of shot distance MB(Meteor Burst) path and shows the low duty rate may be improved by increasing burst rate through adapting antenna beam width to cover entire hot-spot region in the space and, by compensating effective burst length through cutting down man-made noises introduced by antenna. Based on the analysis, we are developed a small-opening-cavity antenna, especially designed for short distance MB path. In operation, the antenna is to be buried under ground surface so as to improve directivity and reduces noise introduction. The antenna exhibits power gain of 3 dB with 90 degree beam width and thus enables to illuminate entire hot-spot regions with the elevation angle of 8-90 degree which is the case of transmission less than 100 km. Directivity horizontal to earth surface is suppressed to minimum which enables to cut man-made noises from near-by sources down to more than 3 dB from the level reported with conventional 4 element Yagi. A series of experiments performed on 100 km MB paths have conformed that, with the antenna installed at receiving site, the burst rate and duration time have been noticed to increase by 10 and 20 percent respectively from the values obtained by conventional 4-element Yagi antenna under same testing condition.

Exertion has been made to develop high-temperature (about $250{\sim}650^{\circ}C$) immersion ultrasonic sensor for the visualization of objects, temperature measurement, dimensional check, or nondestructive testing of welds under liquid sodium. In this study, the feasibility of the ultrasonic sensor taking advantage of a strip waveguide was confirmed by water-experiment. The lowest order of antisymmetric Lamb wave was used in the frequency range with negligible dispersion. This plate wave was excited in the stainless steel strip waveguide of 1.0mm thickness and 13mm width by the comb-structure transducer of 2.3MHz frequency. Its attenuation coefficient was 1.2dB/m in air and 380dB/m in water. The signal to noise ratio of 25dB was obtained from a planar reflector 270mm away from the beam aperture of $13mm{\times}39mm$ size.
This paper proposes an algorithm to design the non-linear array so as to form efficiently the one-shot beam with relatively less sensors for acoustic measurement. In this algorithm, according to the spatial sampling theory the part for high frequency(HF) band has equispaced sensor array and the sensor distances below the HF band are decided as a function of number of HF sensors. As the results of the simulations, the mean and variances of directivity index(DI) of non-linear array which has less sensors are similar to those of linear array. and the DI variation for beam steering angle is very small. And the beam width at -2dB point is 6.8°. Thus it is confirmed that the design algorithm for non-linear array which is proposed to have less sensors can be efficiently used in acoustic measurement.

In this paper, the high gain and broadband antenna operating for SDMB(Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system is realized, The proposed antenna consists of the SAP(Shorted Annular Patch) structure, which inhibits surface-wave and the parasitic SAP element with spacing of $0.25 {\lambda}_0$ in order to improve gain, bandwidth and directivity. The RHCP(Right Hand Circular Polarization) is generated by two slits, which are made along the periphery of the circular patch at the diametrically opposite points, The simulated maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 12.6 dBi, which is better 5.22 dBi than maximum gain of the conventional microstrip patch antenna. The measured maximum gain is 10.5dBi at operating frequency 2.63GHz. Also, the measured impedance bandwidth$(VSWR{\leq}2)$ of the proposed antenna is $360MHz(2.488{\sim}2.848 GHz)$, which is better 300 MHz than the bandwidth of the conventional microstrip patch antenna. The measured HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) of the proposed antenna is $45.8^{\circ}$, and the measured FBR(Front to Back Ratio) is 15.49 dBi, The 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 220 MHz$(2.54{\sim}2.76 GHz)$.

In this paper, a weathercock-shaped microstrip patch antenna for application in 5.25GHz band wireless LAN is designed and fabricated. To obtain sufficient bandwidth in VSWR<2, the T-slot is inserted on the patch, the coaxial probe source is used. The measured result of fabricated antenna obtained 350MHz or about $7.62\%$ bandwidth in VSWR<2 referenced to the center frequency, the gain of 5.25${\~}$6.70dBi. The experimental 3-dB beam width is shown to be broad across the pass band in azimuth and elevation at $80.32^{\circ}$ and $83.88^{\circ}$, in several.
