A simple and versatile method of fabricating color patterns in two-dimension (2D) and three-dimension (3D) was developed using the selective-wettability approach. Red, green, and blue color elements are sequentially formed on a single substrate in a pattern-by-pattern and/or pattern-on-pattern fashion, through a simple coating process. Either 2D or 3D structures in an array format are produced by controlling the thickness of the hydrophobic layer (HL) coating a substrate within the framework of wetting transition. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the stacked geometry of two successive patterns can be easily tailored for various types of color arrays, with the pattern fidelity of a few tens of nanometers in terms of only a parameter of the HL thickness.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of inhalation and exhalation exercise combined with upper extremity proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation pattern on two spirometry values: forced volume vital (FVC) and peak expiratory flow (PEF). Methods: Thirty-two healthy adults were divided into two groups: 1) a combined group, which performed upper extremity D2 flexion pattern (shoulder flexed/abducted/external rotated, forearm supinated, wrist radial deviated, and finger extended) during exhalation and D2 extension pattern (shoulder extended/adducted/internal rotated, forearm pronated, wrist ulnar deviated, and finger flexed) during inhalation; and 2) reverse combined group, which performed the D2 flexion pattern during inhalation and the D2 extension pattern during exhalation. The inverse application of upper extremity movements during inhalation and exhalation induced selective resistance or assistance on respiration. FVC and PEF were measured at two time points, before and after four weeks. Results: In both groups, the pre-post intervention comparison showed significant increases in FVC and PEF (p < .05). In the between-groups comparison, the reverse combined group showed a significantly higher PEF than the combined group at four weeks post intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The combined respiration exercise with reverse PNF upper extremity patterns using selective resistance showed an effective increase in PEF in healthy adults. Clinicians and researchers might consider using selective resistance as a widely applicable and cost-effective option for respiratory rehabilitation planning.
The aim of this study is to develop upper bodice pattern for obese girls aged 10~12 by using 3D virtual garment simulation system. The criteria for subjects in this study were girls who had over 1.46 of the R$\ddot{o}$hrer Index. A total of 229 schoolgirls who met these criteria were enrolled. The results of this study are as follows: First, by using 3D virtual garment simulation, new upper bodice pattern considered obese-schoolgirls was development. The basic numerical formula were as follows ; bust girth B/2+4.5, armhole depth B/4-1, waist girth W/4+0.5+dart amount, front chest width B/6+2, back width B/6+2, neck width B/12-0.5 and neck depth B/12+0.5. Second, armhole darts were added to compensate the loose amount of front armhole and dart manipulation was used to ensure a better appearance on armhole in the design. The dart side line was modified concavely to help cover the protruding stomach. Curved lines on the armhole were significantly relieved using dart manipulation and the darts side line was modified concavely to reduce the tightness around the front waist darts. Third, according to the results of the new upper bodice pattern's appearance evaluation, it estimated more highly than existing pattern in silhouette and ease amount, confirming that new upper bodice pattern was appropriate for the obese-schoolgirls. This study is expected to serve as one of important basic data for ensuing studies that may utilize 3D virtual garment simulation system with 2D patterns.
This study investigated the effect of UV-B irradiation on the quality of Pleurotus ostreatus. The changes of vitamin $D_2$ contents, color value and flavor pattern in mushrooms were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), chromameter and gas chromatography - surface acoustic wave (GC-SAW) electronic nose. By exposure to UV-B irradiation (0 kj/m$^2$, 10 kj/m$^2$, 20 kj/m$^2$), vitamin $D_2$ content increased from 0 (control) to 48.50 g/g (DM: dry matter, 10 kj/m$^2$) and 61.58 g/g (DM, 20 kj/m$^2$). Although there was no significant difference in L, a, b values among the three groups, flavor changes were detected by GC-SAW electronic nose. The number of peaks increased from 10 in the control group (0 kj/m$^2$), to 14 and 15 for the 10 kj/m$^2$ and 20 kj/m$^2$ groups, respectively. Nevertheless, the changes of flavor pattern were not detrimental to the mushroom quality. These results suggested that UV-B irradiation is an effective method to increase the vitamin $D_2$ content without degrading the quality.
Image processings using the two-dimensional wavelet transform (2DWT) have been a very active research area in recent years because the 2DWT possess many good properties. However, the discrete 2DWT can not be used for pattern recognition directly because it does not have the translation property. In this paper, we show why conventional discrete two-dimensional wavelet transforms cannot be used for pattern recognitions directly. Then, we propose a new method that makes it possible to use discrete 2DWT to pattern recognition without modification of standard pyramidal algorithms. The main idea of our method is to postprocess the wavelet transformed images using the second-order neural network. To justify the validity of the method, evaluations with test images were performed. The effectiveness of the method can be shown by the evaluation results.
The purpose of this study was to design posture braces for rounded shoulders by examining characteristics of incorrect postures of rounded shoulders. The review of information in literature on rounded shoulder postures, correction exercise methods, and posture correction devices, has prompted this study to determine the design and material of a proper posture brace for rounded shoulders. In order to develop the pattern of a posture brace for rounded shoulders for women, the study carried out a comfort evaluation of the braces based on the 2D patterns through drafting method by utilizing the body measurements and relational formulae associated with the major body measurement such as bust circumference and on the 3D patterns of the brace which were obtained from 3D human model of women in their early 20s in Korea. Differences in angles were noted when 2D and 3D patterns of shoulder posture braces were compared. The side neck point was relocated farther outside in the 3D pattern to allow additional flexibility in the back-neck area, and the shoulder band was lowered by 14.8°, increasing armhole area comfort. The upper hemline of the front panel was found to rotate upward at an angle of 22.0° as the underarm point of the 3D pattern moved upwards than the underarm point of the 2D pattern, which enhanced comfort in the abdomen area. The 3D designs of shoulder posture brace was preferred in this study, as they significantly improved comfort while conducting fit evaluation compared to the 2D patterns of shoulder posture brace.
To increase the data capacity of one-dimensional symbology, 2D barcodes have been proposed a decade ago. In this paper, a new 2D barcode detection algorithm based on Local Binary Pattern is presented. To locate 2D barcode symbols, a texture analysis scheme based on the Local Binary Pattern is adopted, and a gray-scale projection with sub-pixel operation is utilized to separate the symbol precisely from the input image. Finally, the segmented symbol is normalized using the inverse perspective transformation for the decoding process. The proposed method ensures high performances under various lighting/printing conditions and strong perspective deformations. Experiments show that our method is very robust and efficient in detecting the symbol area for the various types of 2D barcodes.
This study was designed to generate briefs pattern for women in their twenties using 3D parametric body model. 151 women in their 20's were random sampled and measured using Martine's anthropometry. And one subject was chosen as the representative subject for 3D scanning. Parametric model was generated of using CATIA P3, Unigraphics NX4.0, Rapidform 2006. And the 3D surface of parametric body model was flattened onto the 2D plane. 3 downscale ratios(0%, 10%, 15%) were applied to generated pattern to figure out what downscale ratio was suitable to make briefs with stretch fabric. 4 kinds of experimental briefs were made with stretch fabrics(0%, 10%, 15% downscale) and worn on the dressform. Subjective evaluation on the appearance was done and the data was analyzed by ANOVA with post-hoc test. Briefs pattern was generated through the process of flattening the parametric surface and arranging the patches to make briefs pattern by dart manipulation. The different ration of outline and area between 3D surface and 2D pattern were 0.22% and 0.09% respectively. It showed that a parametric model could provide a desirable pattern with minute size error. The results of subjective evaluation on the appearance of 4 experimental briefs showed that stretch briefs with 15% downscale ratio was evaluated most highly in most items. Findings imply that it is feasible to apply 3D parametric model to generate patterns for various items considering various fabric properties.
The pattern making of the tight-fitting collars which often used in diving suits, dance wear, or cycle wear has not been fully established. To develop tight-fitting collar pattern directly from 3D images from the representative somatotypes, dressforms developed by Jaeun Jung were used. The 3D scan data of the four male dressforms were obtained using Exyma-1200. Triangle Simplification and the Runge-Kutta method were applied to reduce the 3D scan data points and to make the segmented triangular patches in a plane from 3D data. As results, apparent differences between the tight-fitting collar patterns obtained from the 3D scan data and the ordinary 2D collar patterns were found around the center back line. The curvatures of the center back line were higher in all types of the tight-fitting collar than in the ordinary collar pattern. Relative differences in the shape of collar lines among four representative Korean men were reported. To fit the curved shape of the back neckline, 1.8 cm should be reduced from the upper neckline in average. We suggested the direct pattern making method for the 2D tight-fitting collar patterns considering the 3D shape of various types of men's dressform.
