Novel carbon-based solid acid catalysts were synthesized through a sustainable route from lipid-extracted microalgal residue of Dunaliella tertiolecta, for biodiesel production. Two carbon-based solid acid catalysts were prepared by surface modification of bio-char with sulfuric acid ($H_2SO_4$) and sulfuryl chloride ($SO_2Cl_2$), respectively. The treated catalysts were characterized and their catalytic activities were evaluated by esterification of oleic acid. The esterification catalytic activity of the $SO_2Cl_2$-treated bio-char was higher ($11.5mmol\;Prod.{\cdot}h^{-1}{\cdot}gCat.\;^{-1}$) than that of commercial catalyst silica-supported Nafion SAC-13 ($2.3mmol\;Prod.{\cdot}h^{-1}{\cdot}gCat.^{-1}$) and $H_2SO_4$-treated bio-char ($5.7mmol\;Prod.{\cdot}h^{-1}{\cdot}gCat.^{-1}$). Reusability of the catalysts was examined. The catalytic activity of the $SO_2Cl_2$-modified catalyst was sustained from the second run after the initial activity dropped after the first run and kept the same activity until the fifth run. It was higher than that of first-used Nafion. These experimental results demonstrate that catalysts from lipid-extracted algae have great potential for the economic and environment-friendly production of biodiesel.
Dopamine has been generally known to exert antinociceptive action in behavioral pain test, such as tail flick and hot plate test, but there appears to be a great variance in the reports on the antinociceptive effect of dopamine depending on the dosage and route of drug administration and type of animal preparation. In the present study, the effects of dopamine on the responses of wide dynamic range (WDR) cells to mechanical, thermal and graded electrical stimuli were investigated, and the dopamine-induced changes in WDR cell responses were compared between animals with an intact spinal cord and the spinal animals. Spinal application of dopamine (1.3 & 2.6 mM) produced a dose-dependent inhibiton of WDR cell responses to afferent inputs, the pinch-induced or the C-fiber evoked responses being more strongly depressed than the brush-induced or the A-fiber evoked responses. The dopamine-induced inhibition was more pronounced in the spinal cat than in the cat with intact spinal cord. The responses of WDR cell to thermal stimulation were also strongly inhibited. Dopamine $D_2$ receptor antagonist, sulpiride, but not $D_1$ receptor antagonist, significantly blocked the inhibitory action of dopamine on the C-fiber and thermal responses of dorsal horn cells. These findings suggest that dopamine strongly suppresses the responses of WDR cells to afferent signals mainly through spinal dopamine $D_2$ receptors and that spinal dopaminergic processes are under the tonic inhibitory action of the descending supraspinal pathways.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics of the user of complementary alternative therapies(CAT) and to identify the important predictive factors associated with them. Method: This study included 142 patients attending outpatient rheumatology clinics of D Hospital in Busan between July and August in 2001. The multiple logistic regression model was developed to estimate the likelihood of user or nonuser of CAT. Result: The duration of illness and chance score of health locus of control were found to be significant factors through the estimated coefficients of using CAT. Duration of illness is longer and chance score of health locus of control is higher in patients who have used CAT in past than that of nonuser. When the model performance was evaluated by comparing the observed outcome with predicted outcome, the model correctly identified 95% of user of CAT and 31% of nonuser. Conclusion: In this survey, duration of illness and chance score of health locus of control are found to be significant factors in predicting utilization of CAT. Nurses who care for rheumatoid arthritis patients should take consideration into health locus of control in planning health education programs.

Two carbonaceous adsorbents CAT and CARBOPAL were tested for reducing the concentration of the three herbicides in water: 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid), TCP (2,4,6-trichlorophenol) and metolachlor. Textural and chemical characterization of the adsorbents include nitrogen isotherms, FTIR, titration and thermogravimetric analyses. Adsorption was studied in discontinuous adsorption experiments at different pH values. The experimental adsorption isotherms data were fitted to four theoretical models. Adsorbent characterization reveals that CAT has higher micropore area, lower pore diameter and lower acidity than CARBOPAL. The adsorption is a second-order process and the isotherms best fitted to Sips model. The efficiency of the process depends mainly on the charge of the adsorbate for TCP and 2,4-D, but it depends on the charge of the surface for metolachlor. Adsorption capacity is higher on CAT for 2,4-D and TCP (small molecules), and it is higher on CARBOPAL for metolachlor (large molecules). Theoretical calculations clearly support this assumption.

The goal of this paper is to present a novel method for protecting digital image using 2-D cellular automata transform (CAT). A copyright and transform coefficients are used to generate a new content-based copyright and an original digital image is distributed without any hidden copyright. The parameter, which is called gateway value, for 2-D CAT is consisted of rule number, initial configuration, lattice length, number of neighbors, and etc. Since 2-D CAT has various gateway values, it is more secure than conventional methods. The proposed algorithm is verified using attacked images such as filtering, cropping, JPEG compression, and rotation for robustness.

Cellular automata are discrete dynamical systems, which provide the basis for the synthesis of complex emergent behavior. This paper proposes a new algorithm of digital watermarking based on cellular automata transform (CAT). The idea of two-dimensional CAT is introduced into the algorithm. After the original image is disassembled with 2D CAT, the watermark information is embedded into the Middle-frequency of the carrier picture. Cellular automata have a huge number of combinations, such as gateway values, rule numbers, initial configuration, boundary condition, etc. Using CAT, the robustness of the watermark will be tremendous strengthened as well as its imperceptibility. Experimental results show that this algorithm can resist some usual attacks such as compression, sharpening and so on. The proposed method is robust to different attacks and is more security.

Streptomyces coelicolor produces three kinds of catalases to cope with oxidative stress and to allow normal differentiation. Catalase A is the major vegetative catalase which functions in removing hydrogen peroxide generated during the process of aerobic metabolism. To understand the regulatory mechanism of response against oxidative stress, hydrogen peroxide-resistant mutant (HR4O) was isolated from S. coelicolor J1501 following UV mutagenesis. The mutant overproduced catalase A more than 50-fo1d compared with the wild type. The mutation locus catRI was mapped closed to the mthB2 locus by genetic crossings. An ordered cosmid library of S. coelicolor encompassing the mthB2 locus was used to isolate the regulator gene (catR) which represses catalase overproduction when introduced into HR4O. A candidate catR gene was found to encode a Fur-like protein of 138 amino acids (15319 Da).
The properties and DNA structures of R plasmids differ depending on the species of the fish-pathogens Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida, Edwardsiella tarda, Enterococcus seriolicida, Pasteurella piscicida and Vibrio anguillarum. However, some R plasmids with the same resistance markers in similar DNA structures were found in A. hydrophila and E. tarda, as well as in A. hydrophila and A. salmonicida. R plasmids from V. anguillarum were classified into three groups according to their DNA structures. The first group was detected before 1977, the second from 1980 to 1983, and the third from 1989 to 1991. R plasmids have been retained within P. piscieida having the same DNA structures and detected at various locations and times. E. seriolicida strains carrying the same R plasmids, which were encoded with resistance to macrolide antibiotics(MLs), lincomycin(LIM), and TC, and to MLs, LIM, and CP. were distributed in yellowtail farms in various districts. The chloramphenicol-resistance(cat) gene of the R plasmids of P. piscicida was classified as CAT type I. The cat of the R plasmids of E, tarda. A. salmonicida was classified as type II. The cat of R plasmids of V. anguillarum was classified into two types. One type detected before 1977, was classified as CAT IV and the other type, detected after 1980, was classified as CAT II. Tetracycline-resistance (tet) V. anguillarum, isolated before 1977 and after 1981, was classified as Tet B and Tet G, respectively. The class D tet gene was widely distributed in R plasmids from fish-pathogens A. hydrophila, E. tarda, P. piscicida, and also V. anguillarum isolated after 1989.
Stereoselective solvolyses of optically active activated esters in the aggregate system of optically active polymeric surfactants containing imidazole and benzene moieties were performed. The catalyst polymers employed were copolymers of N-methacryloyl-L-histidine methyl ester (MHis) with N,N-dimethyl-N-hexadecyl-N-[10-(p-methacryloylo xyphenoxycarbonyl)-decyl]ammonium bromide(DEMAB). In the solvolyses of N-carbobenzoxy-D- and L-phenylalanine p-nitrophenyl esters (D-NBP and L-NBP) by polymeric catalysts, copoly(MHis-DEMAB) exhibited not only increased catalytic activity but also enhanced enantioselectivity as the mole ${\%}$ of surfactant monomers in the copolymers increased. The polymeric catalysts showed noticeable enantioselective solvolyses toward D- and L-NBP of the substrates employed. As the reaction temperature was lowered for the solvolyses of D- and L-NBP with the catalyst polymer containing 3.5 mole ${\%}$ of MHis, the increased reaction rate and enhanced enantioselectivity were observed. The coaggregative systems of the polymer and monomeric surfactants were also investigated. In the case of coaggregate system consisted of 70 mole ${\%}$ of cetyldimethylethylammonium bromide with polymeric catalyst showed maximum enantioselective catalysis, viz., $k_{cat}(L)/k_{cat}(D)$ = 2.85. The catalyst polymers in the sonicated solvolytic solutions were confirmed to form large aggregate structure by electron microscopic observation.

Alumina added with Mn3O4 up to 7.5 cat% of Mn was prepared by conventional ceramic processing, and the sintering behavior and the optical properties of which were studied as functions of Mn content. Densification and grain growth of alumina were enhanced by Mn addition up to 0.75 cat% but was leveled off at higher concentrations. XRD revealed that $Al_2MnO_4$(galaxite) was formed as a second phase in the specimens with more than 0.75 cat% of Mn. Thus it is believed that either the solid solution effect of Mn or the Zener effect of $Al_2MnO_4$ becomes predominant in the sintering of Mn-added $Al_2O_3$ according to the additive concentration. UV-VIS reflectivity(SCI) spectra of Mn-added $Al_2O_3$ consisted of smooth bottoms in 300~550 nm wavelength range and plateaus at wavelengths longer than 650 nm. The reflectivity spectrum continuously moved downward, and the specimen color became darker and thicker with increasing Mn content. The CIELAB color change with respect to standard white was also dependent on the amount of Mn added: ${\Delta}L^*$(D65) negatively increased and ${\Delta}E_{ab}^*$(D65) positively increased with increasing Mn content, probably due to Mn substitution to Al and/or the mixing effect of black $Al_2MnO_4$ as a second phase.
