A Synthetic Approach to 11-Oxabicyclo[6.2.1]undecyl Bicyclics

  • Through a sequence of reactions including Diels-Alder cycloaddition of a furan diene as the key step, 11-oxatricyclo[6.2.1.01,6]undecyl rings were synthesized from 5-methylfurfural with the goal of developing a synthetic protocol to 11-oxabicyclo[6.2.1]undecyl system. The strategy to incorporate an oxygen atom at C6 carbon of tricyclic 11 or 16 by Baeyer-Villiger oxidation was unsuccessful, implicating that there is too much steric congestion around the carbonyl ketone. As an alternative approach, bicyclic 23 and 24 were prepared from 2-methylfuran via known tricyclic 20. Cyclization of bicyclic 23 and 24 under several reaction conditions also failed to produce hydroxylated product 25 and 26.

  • Two pterocarpans [(6aR,11aR)-maackiain, (6aR,11aR)-medicarpin], one flavanone [(2S)-7-hydroxy-G-methoxy-flavanone], one isoflavan (sativan) and two isoflavones (pseudobaptigenin, genistein) were isolated from the Spatholobus suberectus (Leguminosae). Their chemical structures were determined by comparison of their spectroscopic parameters of CD, ElMS, 1D-NMR and 2D-NMR with those reported in the literatures. All of these compounds are reported for the first time from this plant through the present study.

Simple synthesis of [11C]DASB in HPLC loop and small animal PET imaging study

  • As a neurotransmitter, serotonin plays important roles in brain. It relates various neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia. [$^{11}C$]DASB is a well-known PET tracer for serotonin transporter imaging. In this study, we synthesized [$^{11}C$]DASB in HPLC loop for simple and rapid production. Total synthesis time was about 40 minutes and the radiochemical purities were over 99%. The specific activity was $51.4GBq/{\mu}mole$ (n=16). [$^{11}C$]DASB showed highest uptake in mid-brain that serotonergic nerves are abundant and lowest uptake in cerebellum. In conclusion, we used HPLC loop method for [$^{11}C$]DASB labeling and this method is useful for production of $^{11}C$ labeled PET tracers.

Solvent Effects on the Isotropic NMR Shifts in Quinuclidine and Pyridine-Type Ligands Coordinated to the Paramagnetic Polyomometalate, $[SiW_{11}Co^{II}o_{39}]^{6-}$

  • The solvent effects on the isotropic NMR shifts in conformationally rigid ligands such as quinuclidine, pyridine, and 4-aminopyridine coordinated to the paramagnetic polyoxometalate, [SiW11CoⅡO39]6- (SiW11Co), are reported. For these complexes the ligand exchange is slow on the NMR time scale and pure 1H NMR signals have been observed at room temperature. The signals for the SiW11Co complexes are shifted upfield whe dimethyl sulfoxide-d6 (DMSO) is added to a D2O solution. The isotropic shifts are separated into contact and pseudocontact contributions by assuming that the contact shifts are proportional to the isotropic shifts of the same ligands coordinated to [SiW11NiⅡO39]6-. It is shown that both the contact and pseudocontact shifts decrease (the absolute values of the pseudocontact shifts increase), when D2O is replaced by DMSO. It is suggested that D2O, a strong hydrogen bond donor, withdraws electron density from [SiW11CoⅡO39]6-, increasing the acidity of the cobalt ion toward the axial ligand. When D2O is replaced by DMSO, the acidity of the cobalt ion in SiW11Co decreases, weakening the Co-N bond. Then both the contact and pseudocontact shifts are expected to decrease in agreement with the observed solvent effects.

  • This study was carried out to examine the changes of pH, chlorophyll, chlorophyll patterns and ascorbic acid contents, and sensory evaluation in Oi-Kimhi by the different periods of storage. The contents of chlorophyll a and b were 52.2% and 14.44% at storage 0 days, 20.67% and 16.99% at storage 11 days,0% at storage 14 days, and decreased with storage times increased. But, phephorbide a and b were increased with storage times increased until storage 11 days, and were 28.44% and 1.25% at storage 0 days,42.63% and 15.79% at storage 11 days,0% at storage 12, 14 days. The contents of ascorbic acid were increased until storage 4 days, but afterwards were decreased with storage times increased, and were 2.57mg% at storage 0 days, 5.49mg% and 2.95mg% at storage 11 days, 0% at storage 14 days. Sensory evaluations of appearance, flavor, taste, texture, overall acceptability showed the highest at storage 8 days, and disliked after storage 10 days.

Genetic polymorphisms in external apical root resorption and orthodontic tooth movements: A systematic review

  • Objective: External apical root resorption (EARR) is characterized by permanent loss of dental structure at the root apex. This study aimed to systematically review gene polymorphisms associated with EARR in orthodontic patients. Methods: Electronic database searches were performed across several databases. Results: This systematic review included 21 studies. Outcome measures were based on tooth dimensions observed on radiographs obtained before and after treatment. Polymorphisms in the following genes were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis: purinergic-receptor-P2X, ligand-gated ion channel 7 (P2RX7), caspase-1/interleukin-converting enzyme (CASP1/ICE), caspase-5 (CASP5), IL-1beta (IL1B), IL-1alpha (IL1A), interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene (IL1RN), tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily gene member 11a (TNFRSF11A), secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1), tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily gene member 11b (TNFRSF11B), interleukin 17A (IL17), interleukin 6 (IL6), receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (RANK), osteoprotegerin (OPG), stromal antigen 2 (STAG2), vitamin D receptor (VDR), cytochrome P450 family 24 subfamily A member 1 (CYP24A1), cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily B (CYP27B1), group-specific component (GC), and interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinases 1 (IRAK1). Conclusions: Almost all studies suggested that IL1 gene is associated with EARR. Additionally, P2RX7 may be an important factor contributing to the etiopathogenesis of EARR. TNFRSF11A, SPP1, IL1RN, IL6, TNFRSF11B, STAG2, VDR, IRAK1, IL-17, CASP1/ICE and CASP5 have been identified in isolated studies. Further observational studies are needed to better explain the association between these genes and EARR.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid Reduction of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Expression in Murine Mammary Tumor Cells through Alteration of Prostaglandin E2

  • Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a group of positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid that have been used to reduce the incidence, growth and metastasis of breast, colon, prostate and gastric cancer in animals. CLA could reduce tumor growth by altering angiogenesis; a process requiring associated angiogenic factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). In this study, we determined whether CLA could modulate the expression of VEGF in murine mammary tumor cells and adipocytes. The c9, t11-CLA isomer reduced VEGF transcripts and protein when mammary tumor cells were stimulated with PMA. That isomer also reduced VEGF expression in un stimulated mouse 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Since VEGF can be regulated by cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), we determined whether CLA could alter COX-2 enzyme expression and $PGE_2$ production. The c9, t11-CLA isomer reduced not only COX-2 enzyme expression but also $PGE_2$ production. Thus, c9, t11-CLA could modulate neovascularization by alteration of VEGF expression from mammary tumor cells and adipocytes by reducing COX-2 metabolites.

Synthesis of $BaTi_4O_9, Ba_2Ti_9O_{20}$ and $BaTi_5O_{11}$ Compounds by Coprecipitation Method and Their Electrical and Thermal Properties (공침법에 의한 $BaTi_4O_9, Ba_2Ti_9O_{20}$$BaTi_5O_{11}$화합물의 합성 및 그의 전기적, 열적 특성)

  • The three different composition of BaTi4O9, Ba2Ti9O20 and BaTi5O11 were prepared by coprecipitation process, and then the dielectric properties of these compounds were measured at low microwave frequencies. The powder showing high level of purity was synthesised by the coprecipition reaction of BaCl2 and TiCl4 where (NH4)2CO3 and NH4OH were used as a deflocculent. Followings are the result of this study: 1. The sintering temperature increased with increasing TiO2 content. 2. BaTi4O9 powder were synthesized as a single phase by this processing technique, but the resultant Ba2Ti9O20 and BaTi5O11 phase existed with Ba2Ti9O20 and BaTi5O11 phases. 3. Single phase BaTi4O9 showed high dielectric constant value of 35, high Q value of 8100.

Security Analysis of SCOS-3 Block Cipher against a Related-Key Attack (블록 암호 SCOS-3의 연관키 차분 공격에 대한 안전성 분석)

  • Recently, several DDP, DDO and COS-based block ciphers have been proposed for hardware implementations with low cost. However, most of them are vulnerable to related-keyt attacks. A 12-round block cipher SCOS-3 is desinged to eliminate the weakness of DDP, DDO and COS-based block ciphers. In this paper, we propose a related-key differential attack on an 11-round reduced SCOS-3. The attack on an 11-round reduced SCOS-3 requires $2^{58}$ related-key chosen plaintexts and $2^{117.54}$ 11-round reduced SCOS-3 encryptions. This work is the first known attack on SCOS-3. Therefore, SCOS-3 is still vulnerable to related-key attacks.
