Changes of Western Men′s Underclothes - in the First Half of the 20C - (서양 남성 속옷의 변천에 관한 고찰 - 20세기 전기 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the historical changes of western men's underclothes in the first half of the 20C and analyze functions and features of men's underclothes. This study was to utilize many literatures in the analysis of historical changes of western men's underclothes. In the 1900's, the attached collar was giving place to the detachable, and the coloured shirt for day wear was becoming accepted. The correct wear fur various occasions was given. Double collar was the favourite for day wear. The dress-shirt protector worn over the dress-shirt front. Men preferred to vest and pants in one as a combined garment. In the 1910's, underclothes were permitting freer movement, but what was still more significant was the glowing inclination to reduce the layers which covered the body. The new conception of decency which was beginning to appear continued to characterize underclothing the symbols of social rank, expect for formal occasion, were declining. For day the white shirt was being displaced by the soft-fronted shirt. In the 1927-1930's, Underclothes were reduced in number, extent and thickness. Underclothing had lost two of its original function : it no longer preserved the warmth of the body, nor did it disguise its essential shape. Both sexes discarded the use of white underwear, In the 1930's, men saw an increasing preference for the coloured shirt. Combinations became increasingly popular and the singlet were displacing the under-vest in the 1930's. All undergarments were very commonly in natural colours. In the 1940's, for evening dress. shirt was plain linen front and square cuffs. Short trunks reached to mid-thigh, had a front waist yoke with three button fastening. Underclothes were pursued ease and activity.

The Characteristics on Western Men's Underclothes in the Second Half of the 20C (20세기 후기에 나타난 서양 남성 속옷의 특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the historical changes, and analyze functions and characteristics of western men's underclothes in the second half of the 20C. This study will examine how the social backgrounds influenced on the changes of the functions of men's underclothes and how the changes of outer garments were reflected on underclothes in the second half of the 20C. In the early, the second half of the 20C, underwears of functions was continued to cleanliness and comforts. In the later of the 20C, underwears came to be seen as expressing male sexual power when it became body-conscious. By the changes of outer garments. underclothes changed the same size of proportion. In the late 1960's, the turtleneck type of shirts were copied by outer garments, and we understand that underwear can influence on outer garments. The ruffles of the 18th century reappeared in the 1960's. This reactionism of the late 20C tells us about the relation between social environments and underwear. So the social backgrounds influenced on the formativeness of men's underclothes. We understand that underwear can influence on outer garments and outer garments can influence on underwear, too. The important characteristics of the second half of the 20C were the remarkable resemblance of some styles to those of the Past and the occasional blurring of the distinction between underwear and outerwear.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the influence of beauty commercial advertising by gender based on information on beauty trends among men and women in their 20s and to confirm the effectiveness of beauty advertising as a marketing tool. To this end, a survey was conducted on men and women in their 20s who are most interested in appearance and use SNS. Women chose YouTube as the most accessible, reliable, and informative ads, while men chose Instagram, TV, and YouTube respectively, and found that YouTube ads were the most influential for women in their 20s and Instagram ads for men in their 20s. These results can be used to build new strategies in the service and marketing sectors of the future beauty market.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factor of feminization in men's fashion according to Sex Role Stereotype of the viewpoint of 20's$\sim$30's womens. The investigators surveyed 284 women who aged twenties and thirties in pusan. For data analysis, we used Chi-Square Test, Factor Analysis, Reliability Analysis, T-test and ANOVA along with SPSS 12.0 package. The results of this study were as follow: First, the result of sex role stereotype according to vital statistics was difference all of variable accept for age. Androgyny type and man type highly showed in most variable. That was showed the change of Sex Role Stereotype. Second, the result of the factor of feminization in men's fashion according to Sex Role Stereotype of the viewpoint of 20's$\sim$30's womens were identified as 'pursuit of sense', 'pursuit of fashion', 'pursuit of individuality', 'secession of sex role', 'feminity'. Third, the result of the factor of feminization in men's fashion according to The vital statistics was difference with all of variable except for educational level. Forth, the factor of feminization in men's fashion according to sex role stereotype was difference with all of factor except for pursuit of sense'. Specially, 'pursuit of fashion' and 'pursuit of individuality' were important understanded the factor of feminization in men's fashion in Androgyny type.

The Effects of Dietary Patterns and Apolipoprotein E Phenotype on the Blood Lipid Profiles of Individuals from Cheju Area (제주지역 성인의 Apolipoprotein E Phenotype 분포와 식생활 및 혈청지질 농도의 관련인자 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between serum lipid profiles, apolipoprotein E phenotype, and dietary patterns in a cross-section of healthy individuals from Cheju-Do. Age, gender, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, dietary consumption, drinking / smoking habits and menopausal status were surveyed. Total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, fasting blood glucose, and insulin levels were measured from overnight fasting blood. The study involved a total of 286 individuals(147 men and 139 women) between the ages of 20 and 60 years old. All of the subjects were recruited from a population of healthy individuals living in Cheju-Do. The results of the study are as follows : 1) Among the males, those in their 20's had the maximum food intake, while those in their 40's had the minimum food intake. For the females, food intake was the highest for those in their 30's. Energy and nutrient intakes were directly proportional to the amount of food intake. Men in their 30's were heavier than other men and women in their 40's were heavier than other women. The activity index for men in their 20's and 30's appeared to be lower than that of men above 40. The activity index of women in their 20's appeared to be lowest among all aged groups, and the index appeared to increase from the age of 30 onwards. 2) In terms of changes In serum constituents with age, men in their 40's appeared to have the highest levels of serum constituents such as lipids, glucose, and insulin. Men in their 50's showed the highest levels of serum LDL-cholesterol and glucose. Men in their 30's showed peak levels of serum triglycerides. On the other hand, women in their 50's appeared to have peak levels of serum total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglycerides. There was no ch:ange with age in HDL-cholesterol and insulin levels for men and women. The percentage of the subjects had the following apo E phenotypes : E3/3, 91.3% ; E3/2, 5.4% ; E4/3, 2.5% ; E4/2, 0.7%. Lee's reserch with Korean female college students showed that the percentage of ApoE3/3, E3/2, E 4/2, E4/3, and E4/4 were 84.8%, 6.7%, 6.7%, 0.9%, 0.9%, respectively. The number of samples with ApoE mutation was so small that there was no statistical significance in the relation between apolipoprotein E phenotype and se겨m lipids. 3) To investigate the relati onship between weight and serum constituents, the subjects of this study were divided into three groups by BMI underweight, normal weight, and overweight. The serum constituents of men and women below the age 40 in the overweight groups belonged to the normal domain. On the other hand, serum cholesterol levels of both men and women above the age 40 in the overweight groups remained in the borderline-high region(above 200mg/dl), and the mean value of LDL-cholesterol(above 130mg/dl) and triglycerides of men were above normal. Fasting blood glucose levels also remained in the borderline-high region. Total cholesterol levels of women above the age 40 in the overweight group was in the borderline-high region. A Study on the Development of Patterns for Pants for Men in their Early 20s and Evaluation of Subjective Wear Sensation (20대 초반의 남성을 위한 다양한 팬츠 패턴 제안 및 착용평가)

  • This investigates the type of pants preferred by Korean men in their 20s through a subjective wear test. Six types of men's pants were developed as experimental garments. The male subjects were university students between the ages of 20 and 24. Subjective wear sensations of the experimental pants were rated using seven Likert scales. A 7-point Likert-type scale was used for the evaluation, with 7 indicating the best fit. As a result, a basic men's sloper for lower body clothing was developed based on SizeKorea 2004 anthropometric measurements surveyed between 2003 and 2004. A basic pattern (A) was manipulated to tight-fit pants (E) and loose-fit pants (D, L, M, and N) by considering the ease at hip level and the style. Among the six pants, pants D and L (4cm ease at hip level) were found to be superior to others in terms of comfort, fitting, and crotch depth. With regard to ease and comfort of the crotch part, pants E and A (0cm ease at hip level) were found to be the least preferred.

Effect on Human Sperm of Adding Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan Prescription (오자연종환가(五子衍宗丸加) 대산(大蒜)이 인체(人體) 정자(精子)에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study focuses on the effect of the extract which We manufactured by adding Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan on the amount of semen, the number and the activity of sperm. Methods : We observed any changes in the amount of semen, the number and the activity of sperm after orally administering the test drug for thirty days and taking semen samples from a selected group of men - healthy men in their 20s, as well as men in their 40s who were feeling a decrease in energy. Results : This experiment showed the result that the amount of semen increased by adding Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan in the case of men in their 20s, but did not show a statistically significant result. It showed the result that the amount of semen increased by a statistically significant level as well as the activity of sperm. Consequently, the result indicated that orally administering the extract added Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan increased the amount of semen, the number and the activity of sperm for men in their 20s. Men in their 40s who are feeling a decline in energy generally decreased the amount of semen, the number and the ratio of activity of sperm. However the amount of semen remarkably increased and the number and the activity of sperm increased but the result was not statistically significant after orally administering the test drug for thirty days. Conclution : Eventually, the result after orally administering the test drug to the group of men in their 20s and 40s for thirty days indicated that both groups increased the amount of semen, number of sperm and activity of sperm to a statistically significant degree.

A Study on Men's Suit Purchasing Behaviors (Part II) Focus on Men in Their 20's∼40's- (남성 정장 구매행동에 관한 연구(제2보) -20∼40대 남성을 중심으로-)

  • This study was attempted to segment the male consumers' market for men's suit based on brand preferences and to identify the group differences in apparel purchasing behaviors and demographic features and to suggest basic information applicable to marketing strategy. 705 men were selected for the study; they were in their twenties through forties, and they lived in Seoul and its suburbs. 655 survey questionnaires were collected and used for analysis. Using the SAS package, frequency, factors, reliability, correlation, genealogical group analysis, distribution analysis, the ($\chi$$^2$-test and the Duncan test for verification were actualized for analysis. The findings of this study were as follows: First, male-suit consumers tend to prefer the national brand(61.07%), licensed brand(19.39%), volume character brand(7.63%), prestige character brand(6.56%), and directly imported brand(5.34%) in order. Second, there were significant differences in apparel shopping orientations, purchasing behavior variables and demographic variables among the 5 classified groups.

The analysis of style of hats in men's fashion collection (남성 패션 컬렉션에 나타난 모자 스타일 특성 분석)

  • Recently, hats have been used more frequently as an accessory, contributing to the general image of clothes in men's collections. This study compared and analyzed the frequency and styles of hat usage in men's brand collections according to the collections' images. Types of hats and their frequency of usage in men's clothes were analyzed among 857 collections from 74 brands between S/S 2006 and F/W 2012. This study also examined the relationship between clothes image and type of hats used. Hats were used in 622 out of 857 collections, and 24 different types of hats were used. In 67 collections, hats were used in at least 71% of clothes. The most frequently used hat was the fedora, followed in frequency by the beanie, cap, bowler, and high hat. The styles of hats in collections varied depending on seasons. In S/S season collections, fedoras were often used, while beanies were more common during the F/W season. This study analyzed styles of hats used in formal, casual, uniformed, and deformed images. Beanies and fedoras were frequently used for the formal image; fedoras, beanies, and plat caps were often used for the casual image; more than 3 types of hats were used together for the uniformed image; and design hats and hats in various styles were used for the deformed image. The results show that hats of various styles were used in collections to express the image of clothes.

A Study on the Somatotype Characteristics of Korean Adult Men: A Comparison between the Data of the 5th Anthropometry of Size Korea and 6th Anthropometry of Size Korea

  • Objective: The objective of the study is to analyze adult men's somatotype characteristics, age range from 20s to 50s comparing the direct anthropometric measurement values and to provide the basis information for developing clothing patterns. Background: The comparative study among the age groups is very fundamental to understand the body characteristics of each subjects group. Therefore, comparison of body measurements in age groups was applied in this study. Method: The anthropometric data from the $5^{th}$ Anthropometry of Size Korea(2004) and $6^{th}$ Anthropometry of Size Korea(2010) were applied for the data analysis. Results: As a result, the chest depth/chest width index(the value of chest depth divided by chest width) was increased and the waist depth/waist width index was decreased in all age groups. In addition, the hip depth/hip width index was decreased in age of 20's and 50's. This means that the chest width and hip width were decreased and the waist width were increased. From the data of the 5th Size Korea, the obese men(BMI: 25~30) in the 50s showed the highest percentage of 47.1%, and 44.8% of obese men(BMI: 25~30) in the 40s recorded the highest rate base on the data of the 6th Size Korea. Conclusion: It is concluded that the some differences were showed between the 5th anthropometric data and the 6th data. In particular, obesity tendencies of men in their 20's and 30's were observed significantly compared to other age groups. Application: These findings from the study can be utilized men's wear design and construction that reflect body characteristics.
