  • The late Quaternary stratigraphy of the tidal deposits in the Hampyung Bay, southwestern coast of Korea comprises 1) Unit III (nonmarine fluvial coarse-grained sediments), 2) Unit II (late Pleistocene tidal deposits), and 3) Unit I (late Holocene fine-grained tidal deposits) in ascending order. The basements of the Hampyung Bay is composed of granitic rocks and basic dyke rocks. These three units are of unconformally bounded sedimentary sequences. The sequence boundary between Unit I and Unit II, in particular, seems to be significant suggesting erosional surface and exposed to the air under the cold climate during the LGM. The uppermost stratigraphic sequence (Unit I) is a common tidal deposit formed under the transgression to highstand sea-level during the middle to late Holocene.

  • Blends of emulsion SBR (E-SBR) and solution SBR (S-SBR) were prepared, and their microstructures (styrene, 1,2-unit, cis-1,4-unit, and trans-1,4-unit contents) were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) with transmittance mode. Method to measure absorbance by valley-to-valley baseline (TV) is objectively reasonable, but has a demerit which peak intensity of the cis-1,4-unit cannot be correctly measured. In order to obtain information for the four microstructures including cis-1,4-unit, measurement methods without correction (TM) and correction to 99% transmittance (TB) were compared to the TV method. Results obtained by the TB method were closer to those obtained by the TV one than those obtained by the TM. The microstructures were determined from the absorbances obtained by the TM and TB methods according to the ISO/FDIS 21561:2005(E). Variations of the styrene, 1,2-unit, and trans-1,4-unit contents with the blend ratio of E-SBR/S-SBR showed relatively good linearities, and there was no big difference between results obtained by the TM and TB methods. Variations of the cis-1,4-unit content with the blend ratio absolutely did not show linearities irrespective of the TM and TB methods.

  • Cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (CGTase) of Bacillus sp. isolated from soil was purified and its enzymological characteristics were investigated. It was found that the production of CGTase reached to the maximum when the strain was cultured in the broth containing 0.1 % albumin, 2% $NH_4Cl$, 2% soluble starch and 0.2% $NH_2PO_4$ for 72 hrs at $37^{\circ}C$. The purity of CGTase was increased by 9.7 folds through purification procedures by the following column chromatography DEAE-cellulose ion exchange chromatography and Sephadex G-100, G-150 gel filtration and its specific activity was 528.0 unit/mg. The optimum pH and temperature for the CGTase activity were 8.0 and $80^{\circ}C$, respectively. The enzyme was stable in pH $8.0{\sim}11.0$ at $60{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. The activity of purified enzyme was inhibited by $Pb^{2+},\;Hg^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$. When CGTase was treated with each 20.5 unit, 41 unit, 205 unit and 410 unit to investigate the transglucosylation to stevioside by purified cyclodextrin glucanotransferase, transglucosylation rate to stevioside was 74.9%, 75.7%, 68.7% and 57.9%. Brown effect was observed above the concentration amounting to 205 unit of our CGTase.

  • Information is an essential factor leading the rapid progress which is one of the distinguished characteristics in modem society. As more information is required and as more is supplied by individuals, governmental units, businesses, and educational institutions, the greater will be the requirement for efficient methods of communication. One possibility for improving the information dissemination process is to use computers. The capabilities of such machine are beginning to be used in the process of Information storage, retrieval and dissemination. An important problems, that must be carefully examined is whether one technique for information retrieval is better for worse than another. This paper examines problem of how to evaluate an information retrieval system. One specific approach is a cost accounting model for use in studying how to minimize the cost of operating a mechanized retrieval system. Through the use of cost analysis, the model provides a method for comparative evaluation between systems. The general cost accounting model of the literature retrieval system being designed by this study are given below. 1. The total cost accounting model of the literature retrieval system. The total cost of the literature retrieval system = (the cost per unit of user time X the amount of user time) + ( the cost per unit of system time X the amount of system time) 2. System cost accounting model system cost = (the pre-search system cost per unit of time X time) + (the search system cost per unit of time X time) + (the post search system cost per unit of time X time) 1) Pre-search system cost per unit of time = cost of channel per unit time + cost of central processing unit per unit time + cost of storage per unit time 2) Search system cost per unit of time = comparison cost + document representation cost. 3) Post-search system cost per unit of time. = cost of channel per unit time + cost of central processing unit per unit time + cost of storage per unit time 3. User cost accounting model Total user cost = [pre-search user cost per unit of time X (time + additional time) ] + [search user cost per unit of time X (time + additional time) ] + [post-search user cost per unit of time X (time + additional time) ].

  • This study was undertaken to screen a high xylanase and mannanase producing microbes. In the first experiment, screening was undertaken against 50 samples of microorganisms having xylanase and mannanase activities from soil and fallen leaves. The screening process has focused on picking out fungi having high xylanase and mannanase activities under the solid-state fermentation. The xylanase and mannanase activities of 6 screened microbes were 0.9~1.6 unit/mL and 0.2~0.4 unit/mL, respectively, under the submerged fermentation condition. However, under the solid-state fermentation, xylanase and mannanase activities were 103.7~220.0 unit/g and 20.1~40.3 unit/g, respectively. Finally one microbe (E-3) was selected and its xylanase and mannanase activities were 197.3 unit/g and 39.9 unit/g, respectively. The morphological and molecular biological classification of E-3 showed 99% homology with the Aspergillus niger.

  • Artificial $BaTiO_3$(BTO)/$SrTiO_3$(STO) oxide superlattice have been deposited on MgO (100) single crystal substrate by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) method. The stacking periodicity of BTO/STO superlattice structure was varied from $BTO_{1\;unit\; cell}/STO_{1\;unit\; cell}$ to $BTO_{125\;unit\; cell}/STO_{125 \;unit \;cell}$ thickness with the total thickness of 100 nm. The result of X-ray diffraction showed the characteristics of superlattice in the BTO/STO multilayer structure. we have also confirmed that there was no interdiffusion at the interface between BTO and STO layers by high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM). The dielectric constant of superlattice increased with decreasing stacking periodicity of the BTO/STO superlattice within the critical thickness. The dielectric constant of the BTO/STO superlattice reached a maximum i.e., 1230 at a stacking perioicity of $BTO_{2\;unit\; cell}/STO_{2\;unit\; cell}$ .

  • This study was attempted to get dimensionless unit hydrograph by linear model which can be used to the estimation of flood for the development of Agricultural water resources and laid emphasis on the application of dimensionless unit hydrographs for the ungaged watersheds by applying linear model. The results summarized through this study are as follows. 1.Peak discharge is found to be Qp= CAR (C =0. 895A-o.145) having high significance between peak discharge, Qp and effective rainfall, R within the range of small watershed area, 84 to 470km2. consequently, linearity was acknowledged between rainfall and runoff. Reasonability is confirmed for the derivation of dimensionless unit hydrograph by linear model. 2.Through mathematical analysis, formula for the derivation of dimensionless unit hydrograph was derived. qp--p=(tp--t)n-1[e-(n-1)](tp--t-1) 3.Moment method was used for the evaluation of storage constant, K and shape parameter, n for the derivation of dimensionless unit hydrograph. Storage constant, K is more closely related with the such watershed characteristics as length of main stream and slopes. On the other hand, the shape parameter, n was derived with such watershed characteristics as watershed area, river length, centroid distance of the basin and slopes. 4.Time to peak discharge, Tp could be expressed as Tp=1. 25 (√s/L)0.76 having a high significance. 5.Dimensionless unit hydrographs by linear model stood more closely to the observe dimensionless unit hydrographs On the contrary, dimensionless unit hydrographs by S.C. S. method has much difference in comparison with linear model at the falling limb of hydrographs. 6.Relative errors in the q/qp at the point of 0.8 and 1.2 for the dimensionles ratio by linear model and S. C. S. method showed to be 2.41, 1.57 and 4.0, 3.19 percent respectively to the q/qp of observed dimensionless unit hydrographs. 7.Derivation of dimensionless unit hydrograph by linear model can be accomplished by linking the two empirical formulars for storage constant, K, and shape parameter, n with derivation formular for dimensionless unit hydrograph for the ungaged small watersheds.

  • The aim of the research is to find out the direction of unit-plans in multi-dwellings for the future society. Shinonome Canal Court where residents actually live now are the objects in this study, and the residential floor plan of unit-plans were analyzed to find out the typical types. The analysis was focused on the unit-plans of 5 blocks of Shinonome Canal Court. Space Syntax Theory was used as the analysis method. As the first stage of the analysis, justified graphs were made to find out the characters of unit-plans through the classification of the graphs. Contents of the analysis are as follows: Relationship between classified justified graphs and dimension according to node number. Relationship between classified justified graph patterns and unit-plans. Characters of unit-plans in each blocks. Shinonome Canal Court consists of mainly small scale unit-plans and 30unit-plans are classified. 1LDK, 2LDK, 1LDK+S, 1LDK+f are typical unit-plans which are mainly supplied in the complex. It is noted that the results of the analysis by node, justified graph pattern and dimension are the same. It also presents diverse unit-plans which shows a change in nLDK pattern or add f (foyer), AN (annex), S (service room), Fs (free space) to basic nLDK type. In summary, it demonstrates the possibility of creating new residental floor plans in multi-dwellings.
