A mathematical model is described for the prediction of convective upward transport of an organic solvent driven by evaporation at the surface, which is known as the major transport mechanism in the in-situ photolysis of a soil contaminated with 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin(TCDD). A finite-element model was proposed to incorporate the effects of multiphase flow on the distribution of each fluid, gravity as a driving force, and the use of hysteretic models for more accurate description of k-S-p relations. Extensive numerical calculations were performed to study fluid flow through three types of soils under different water table conditions. Predictions of relative permeability-saturation-pressure (k-S-p) relations and fluids distribution for an illustrative soil indicate that hysteresis effects may be quite substantial. This result emphasizes the need to use hysteretic models in performing flow simulations including reversals of flow paths. Results of additional calculations accounting for hysteresis on the one-dimensional unsaturated soil columns show that gravity affects significantly on the flow of each fluid during gravity drainage, solvent injection, and evaporation, especially for highly permeable soils. The rate and duration of solvent injection also have a profound influence on the fluid saturation profile and the amount of evaporated solvent. Key factors influencing water drainage and solvent evaporation in soils also include hydraulic conductivity and water table configuration.
Generally, slope behavior is analyzed by 2-dimensional creep model. Creep behavior shows the deformation variation as time goes by without stress increment. Convention 2-dimensional creep analysis does not have the term of stress variation, it means creep analysis could not figure out the relationship of shear strength variation according to the stress variation and displacement. The slope weight and shear strength is directly related and interlocked to the safety variation and displacement of slope, therefore, this phenomenon could be treated and analyzed as combining the hysteresis and creep, the iteration of this process will result in the slope safety. Furthermore, the combined analysis will be the slope analysis considering shear stress, displacement and shear strength with time variation. In real case, because the variation of shear stress and strength happen at the same time, they should be changed into safety factor which is function of them. This paper shows the 3-dimensional variation of unit weight of soil with hybrid analysis considering creep and hysteresis on the seepage and drainage of rainfall, futhermore variations of shear stress and strength which make the safety factor change.

Tunnelling in water bearing soils influences the ground water regime. It has been indicated in the literature that the existence of ground water above a tunnel influences tunnel stability and the settlement profile. Only limited research, however, has been done on ground water movements around tunnels and their influence on tunnel performance. Time dependent soil behaviour can be caused by the changes of pore water pressure and/or the viscous properties of soil(creep) under the stress change resulting from the advance of the tunnel face. De Moor(1989) demonstrated that the time dependent deformations due to tunnelling are mainly the results of pore pressure dissipation and should be interpreted in terms of effective stress changes. Drainage into tunnels is governed by the permeability of the soil, the length of the drainage path and the hydraulic boundary conditions. The potential effect of lime dependent settlement in a shallow tunnel is likely to occur rapidly due to the short drainage path and possibly high coefficient of consolidation. Existing 2D modelling methods are not applicable to these tunnelling problems, as it is difficult to define empirical parameters. In this paper the time-based 2D modelling method is adopted to account for the three dimensional effect and time dependent behaviour during tunnel construction. The effect of coupling between the unloading procedure and consolidation during excavation is profoundly investigated with the method. It is pointed out that realistic modelling can be achieved by defining a proper permeability at the excavation boundary and prescribing appropriate time for excavation Some guidelines for the numerical modelling of drained and undrained excavation has been suggested using characteristic time factor. It is highlighted that certain range of the factor shows combined effect between the unloading procedure due to excavation and consolidation during construction.
Recently in urban area flood damages increase due to local concentrated heavy rainfall. Even in the cities where stormwater drainage systems are relatively well established flood damage still occurs because of the capacity limitations of the existing stormwater drainage systems. When the flood exceeds the capacity limitation of the urban storm sewer system, it yields huge property losses of public facilities involving roadway inundation to paralyze industrial and transportation system of the city. To prevent such flood damages in urban area, it is necessary to develop adequate inundation analysis model which can consider complicated geometry of urban area and artificial drainage system simultaneously. The Dual-Drainage model used in this study is the urban inundation analysis model which combines SWMM with DEM based 2-dimensional surface flood inundation model. In this study, the dual drainage model has been modified to consider the effect of complex buildings in urban area. Through the simulation of time variable inundation process, it is possible to identify inundation alert locations as well as to establish emergency action plan for the residencial area vulnerable to flood inundation.

In case of inundation in a city where populations and properties are highly concentrated, unlike rural areas it is necessary to apply the method of calculating the damage amount considering the sewage overflow and the corresponding building damage. In this study, Dorim 1 drainage sector has been analyzed with Multi-Dimensional Flood Damage Assessment (MD-FDA) for flood forecast. It is analyzed with past flood history through the SWMM model and calculated the amount of damage with district base data and the result of flow analysis. The result of the SWMM model to predict a range of flood, it was shown that the wide area after 4 hours (at 16:30) by sewer overflow. The building damage was estimated using MD-FDA. As a result, the maximum flood area has shown as $205,955m^2$ (0~0.5 m: $205,190m^2$, over 0.5 m: $865m^2$) and estimated building damage of Dorim 1 drainage sector is approximately 15.5 billion KRW (Korean won) and other contents is 7 billion KRW (Korean won). Also from 0 to 0.5 m depth estimated damage is approximately 22.4 billion KRW (Korean won) and over 0.5 m is 100 million KRW (Korean won). Based on the results of this study, it would be necessary to estimate the amount of sub-divided flood damage in urban areas according to various damage patterns such as flood depth and flood time.
This study is an impact assessment of building blocks on urban inundation depth and area. LiDAR data is used to generate two original data set in terms of DEM with $5{\times}5$ meter and building block elevation layer of the study drainage area in Cheongju and then the building block elevation layer is modified again to the mesh data with same size to DEM. Two-dimensional inundation analysis is carried out by applying 2D SWMM model. The inundation depth calculated by using the building block elevation layer shows higher reliability than the DEM. This is resulted from the building block interference to surface flow. In addition, the maximum flooded area by DEM is two times wider than the area by building block layer. In the case of the surface velocity, the difference of velocity is negligible in either DEM or building block case in the low building impact zone. However, If the impact of building on the surface velocity was increase, the gap of velocity was significant.

In this study, examined influence of consolidation effect that had affected by location of pump inlet that was set collection well for drainage of pore water discharged by embankment on soft ground through the field test. The results of this study are summarized as follows; 1 Initial consolidation curve value were larger than theoritic value, the cause of these phenomena were thought influence of secondary consolidation and three dimensional strain of soft clay. 2. The settlement value of Hosino method was larger than that of Hyperbolic method, but settlement value of Hyperbolic method was accurate more than that of Hosino method in the prediction of settlement. 3. When pump inlet in collection well came down from GL+O.3m to GL-1.5m, settlement value increased about 10cm and when the ground water level was made insitu after pumping had completed , settlement was expanded about 7~8cm. So it is found that location change of pump inlet bad an influence on settlement remarkably. 4. If location of pump inlet in collection well for large scale estate or wide road site is lowered than original ground level, the settlement will be accelerated effectively, and at this stage automatic pump must be used in pumping.
In urban areas, runoff flow is drained through sewer networks as well as surface areas. Therefore, it is very important to consider sewer networks as a component of hydrological drainage processes when conducting urban inundation modelling. However, most researchers who have implemented urban inundation/flood modelling, instinctively simplified the sewer networks without the appropriate criteria. In this research, a 1D-2D fully coupled urban inundation model is applied to estimate the influence of sewer network simplification on urban inundation modelling based on the dendritic network classification. The one-dimensional (1D) sewerage system analysis model, which was introduced by Lee et al. (2017), is used to simulate inlet and overflow phenomena by interacting with surface flow. Two-dimensional (2D) unstructured meshes are also applied to simulate surface flow and are combined with the 1D sewerage analysis model. Sewer network pipes are simplified based on the dendritic network classification method, namely the second and third order, and all cases of pipes are conducted as a control group. Each classified network case, including a control group, is evaluated through their application to the 27 July 2011 extreme rainfall event, which caused severe inundation damages in the Sadang area in Seoul, South Korea. All cases are compared together regarding inundation area, inflow discharge and overflow discharge. Finally, relevant criterion for the simplification method is recommended.
A rockburst is a common disaster in deep-tunnel excavation engineering, especially for high-geostress areas. An anomalously low friction effect is one of the most important inducements of rockbursts. To elucidate the correlation between an anomalously low friction effect and a rockburst, we establish a two-dimensional prediction model that considers the discontinuous structure of a rock mass. The degree of freedom of the rotation angle is introduced, thus the motion equations of the blocks under the influence of a transient disturbing force are acquired according to the interactions of the blocks. Based on the two-dimensional discontinuous block model of deep rock mass, a rockburst prediction model is established, and the initiation process of ultra-low friction rockburst is analyzed. In addition, the intensity of a rockburst, including the location, depth, area, and velocity of ejection fragments, can be determined quantitatively using the proposed prediction model. Then, through a specific example, the effects of geomechanical parameters such as the different principal stress ratios, the material properties, a dip of principal stress on the occurrence form and range of rockburst are analyzed. The results indicate that under dynamic disturbance, stress variation on the structural surface in a deep rock mass may directly give rise to a rockburst. The formation of rockburst is characterized by three stages: the appearance of cracks that result from the tension or compression failure of the deformation block, the transformation of strain energy of rock blocks to kinetic energy, and the ejection of some of the free blocks from the surrounding rock mass. Finally, the two-dimensional rockburst prediction model is applied to the construction drainage tunnel project of Jinping II hydropower station. Through the comparison with the field measured rockburst data and UDEC simulation results, it shows that the model in this paper is in good agreement with the actual working conditions, which verifies the accuracy of the model in this paper.
Vertical drain has usually been used to accelerate the consolidation of soft clay deposits with high moisture content. Busan thick clay deposits are subjected to artesian pressure from an aquifer in sand and gravel layers. However, effect of artesian pressure existing in drainage-installed soft ground on consolidation behaviors is not well known. This paper investigates the consolidation behavior of drainage-installed soft ground at the Nakdong river estuary with artesian pressure and without artesian pressure. A series of one-dimensional large size column test was carried out to find out the consolidation characteristics of clay. Test results indicated that total settlement of clay with artesian pressure was higher than that without artesian pressure because effective stress decreased due to upward flow. Dissipation rate of excess pore water pressure delayed and excess pore water pressure did not fully dissipate in clay layer with artesian pressure. Undrained shear strength of clay ground with artesian pressure was lower than that without artesian pressure.
