A Study on Identification using Particle Swarm Optimization for 3-DOF Helicopter System (3-자유도 헬리콥터 시스템의 입자군집최적화 기법을 이용한 시스템 식별)

  • This study proposes the more improved mathematical model than conventional that for the 3-DOF Helicopter System in Quanser Inc., and checks the validity about the proposed model by performance comparison between the controller based on the conventional model and that based on the proposed model. Research process is next : First, analyze the dynamics for the 3-DOF helicopter system and establish the linear mathematical model. Second, check the eliminated nonlinear-elements in linearization process for establishing the linear mathematical model. And establish the improved mathematical model including the parameters corresponding to the eliminated nonlinear-elements. At that time, it is used for modeling that Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm the meta-heuristic global optimization method. Finally, design the controller based on the proposed model, and verify the validity of the proposed model by comparison about the experimental results between the designed controller and the controller based on the conventional model.

Sliding Mode Trim and Attitude Control of a 2-00F Rigid-Rotor Helicopter Model

  • An experimental control system is proposed for the attitude control of a simplified 2-DOF helicopter model. The main rotor is a rigid one, and the fuselage is simply supported by a fixed hinge point where the longitudinal motion is decoupled from the lateral one since the translations and the rolling rotation are completely removed. The yaw trim of the helicopter is performed with a tail rotor, by which the azimuthal attitude can be adjusted on the rotatable post in the yaw direction. The robust sliding mode control tracking a given attitude angle is proposed based on the flight dynamics. A pitch damper is inserted for the control of pitching angle while the compensator to reaction torque is used for the control of azimuth angle. Several parameters of the system are selected through experiments. The results shows that the proposed control method effectively counteracts nonlinear perturbations such as main rotor disturbance, undesirable chattering, and high frequency dynamics.

  • The aim of this paper is to analyze handling qualities of tiltrotor aircraft(TR-S4) in helicopter flight mode including hovering and forward flight. Analysis of handling qualities is composed of aircraft response to control inputs that effect on stability and controllability. In short term response analysis, bandwidth is the critical parameter for small amplitude motions since it relates to the ability of a pilot to crisply start and stop maneuver. The handling qualities of TR-S4 in helicopter mode are analyzed with a SAS and an attitude controller and are satisfied level 1 in almost criteria with simulation of TR-S4 6-DOF nonlinear model.

Unguided Rocket Trajectory Analysis under Rotor Wake and External Wind (로터 후류와 외풍에 따른 무유도 로켓 궤적 변화 해석)

  • Downwash from helicopter rotor blades and external winds from various maneuvering make an unguided rocket change its trajectory and range. For the prediction of the trajectory and range, it is essential to consider the downwash effect. In this study, an algorithm was developed to calculate 6-Degree-Of-Freedom(6 DOF) forces and moments exerting on the rocket, and total flight trajectory of a 2.75-inch unguided rocket in a helicopter downwash flow field. Using Actuator Disk Model(ADM) analysis result, the algorithm could analyze the entire trajectory in various initial launch condition such as launch angle, launch velocity, and external wind. The algorithm that considered the interference between a fuselage and external winds could predict the trajectory change more precisely than inflow model analysis. Using the developed algorithm, the attitude and trajectory change mechanism by the downwash effect were investigated analyzing the effective angle of attack change and characteristics of pitching stability of the unguided rocket. Also, the trajectory and range changes were analyzed by considering the downwash effect with external winds. As a result, it was concluded that the key factors of the rocket range change were downwash area and magnitude which effect on the rocket, and the secondary factors were the dynamic pressure of the rocket and the interference between a fuselage and external winds. In tailwind case which was much influential on the range characteristics than other wind cases, the range of the rocket rose as increasing the tailwind velocity. However, there was a limit that the range of the rocket did not increase more than the specific tailwind velocity.
