Design of Vision Based Punching Machine having Serial Communication

  • Automatic FPC punching instrument for the improvement of working condition and cost saving is introduced in this paper. FPC(flexible printed circuit) is used to detect the contact position of K/B and button like a cellular phone. Depending on the quality of the printed ink and position of reference punching point to the FPC, the resistance and current are varied to the malfunctioning values. The size of reference punching point is 2mm and the above. Because the punching operation is done manually, the accuracy of the punching degree is varied with operator's condition. Recently, The punching accuracy has deteriorated severely to the 2mm punching reference hall so that assembly of the K/B has hardly done. To improve this manual punching operation to the FPC, automatic FPC punching system is introduced. Precise mechanical parts like a 5-step stepping motor and ball screw mechanism are designed and tested and low cost PC camera is used for the sake of cost down instead of using high quality vision systems for the FA. 3D Mechanical design tool(Pro/E) is used to manage the exact tolerance circumstances and avoid design failures. Simulation is performed to make the complete vision based punching machine before assembly, and this procedure led to the manufacturing cost saving. As the image processing algorithms, dilation, erosion, and threshold calculation is applied to obtain an exact center position from the FPC print marks. These image processing algorithms made the original images having various noises have clean binary pixels which is easy to calculate the center position of print marks. Moment and Least square method are used to calculate the center position of objects. In this development circumstance, Moment method was superior to the Least square one at the calculation of speed and against noise. Main control panel is programmed by Visual C++ and graphical Active X for the whole management of vision based automatic punching machine. Operating modes like manual, calibration, and automatic mode are added to the main control panel for the compensation of bad FPC print conditions and mechanical tolerance occurring in the case of punch and die reassembly. Test algorithms and programs showed good results to the designed automatic punching system and led to the increase of productivity and huge cost down to law material like FPC by avoiding bad quality.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient block-based disparity estimation algorithm fur multiple view image coding in EE2 and EE3 in 3DAV. The proposed method emphasizes on visual quality improvement to satisfy the requirements for multiple view generation. Therefore, we perform an adaptive disparity estimation that constructs variable blocks by considering given image features. Examining neighboring features around desired block search range is set up to decrease complexity and additional information than only using quad-tree coding through applying binary-tree and quad-tree coding by taking into account stereo image feature having big disparity. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves PSNR about 1 to 2dB compared to existing other methods and decreases computational complexity up to maximum 68 percentages than FBMA.

Extraction of an Effective Saliency Map for Stereoscopic Images using Texture Information and Color Contrast (색상 대비와 텍스처 정보를 이용한 효과적인 스테레오 영상 중요도 맵 추출)

  • In this paper, we propose a method that constructs a saliency map in which important regions are accurately specified and the colors of the regions are less influenced by the similar surrounding colors. Our method utilizes LBP(Local Binary Pattern) histogram information to compare and analyze texture information of surrounding regions in order to reduce the effect of color information. We extract the saliency of stereoscopic images by integrating a 2D saliency map with depth information of stereoscopic images. We then measure the distance between two different sizes of the LBP histograms that are generated from pixels. The distance we measure is texture difference between the surrounding regions. We then assign a saliency value according to the distance in LBP histogram. To evaluate our experimental results, we measure the F-measure compared to ground-truth by thresholding a saliency map at 0.8. The average F-Measure is 0.65 and our experimental results show improved performance in comparison with existing other saliency map extraction methods.

  • A beautiful, flexible active-matrix electrophoretic display (AM-EPD) device is reported. The flexible AM-EPD device has a $40.0{\times}30.0\;mm^2$ display area, measures about 0.27 mm in thickness, weighs about 0.45 g and possesses only 20 external connections. The flexible AM-EPD device displays clear black-and-white images with 5 gray-scales on $160{\times}120$ pixels. The display is free from residual image problems, because we use an area-gray-scale method on $320{\times}240$ EPD elements, each of which is driven with binary signals. Each pixel consists of 4 EPD elements. In addition, since the response time of the electrophoretic material is as long as approximately 400 ms and since the display possesses a large number of EPD elements, we have developed a special driving method suitable for changing EPD images comfortably. A complete image is formed on the AM-EPD device, consisting of a reset frame and several, typically 6, image frames.

Robust 3D Hashing Algorithm Using Key-dependent Block Surface Coefficient (키 기반 블록 표면 계수를 이용한 강인한 3D 모델 해싱)

  • With the rapid growth of 3D content industry fields, 3D content-based hashing (or hash function) has been required to apply to authentication, trust and retrieval of 3D content. A content hash can be a random variable for compact representation of content. But 3D content-based hashing has been not researched yet, compared with 2D content-based hashing such as image and video. This paper develops a robust 3D content-based hashing based on key-dependent 3D surface feature. The proposed hashing uses the block surface coefficient using shape coordinate of 3D SSD and curvedness for 3D surface feature and generates a binary hash by a permutation key and a random key. Experimental results verified that the proposed hashing has the robustness against geometry and topology attacks and has the uniqueness of hash in each model and key.

Nonvisibility and robustness evaluation of image watermarking mixed Key and Logo method (키와 로고 방식을 혼합한 이미지 워터마킹의 비가시성과 강인성 평가)

  • In this research, nonvisibility and robustness of image watermarking mixed Key and Logo method were evaluated. The role of the Key was performed by a personal ID of a copyrighter and the logo images were used as the watermark. The standard image of Lena was used for experimental image and binary images of `Park'with size 32${\times}$32 and 64${\times}$64 were used for the watermark, respectively In order to evaluate nonvisibility of the proposed watermarking scheme, PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) of the watermarked image was obtained and for robustness reconstructive rates of the reconstructed watermark were obtained from the watermarked image with image transformation of JPEG lossy compression. The experimental results show that nonvisibility is excellent as PSNR of the watermarked image is 93.75dB and the reconstructive rates of the case of 322${\times}$32 watermark was better than the case of the 64${\times}$64 watermark; average 5.9%, 13.9%, 6.5%, and 4.2% in the case of scale-down rates, rotational rates, impulse noise power density, and JPEG lossy compression rates, respectively.

Performance Comparison and Analysis between Keypoints Extraction Algorithms using Drone Images (드론 영상을 이용한 특징점 추출 알고리즘 간의 성능 비교)

  • Images taken using drones have been applied to fields that require rapid decision-making as they can quickly construct high-quality 3D spatial information for small regions. To construct spatial information based on drone images, it is necessary to determine the relationship between images by extracting keypoints between adjacent drone images and performing image matching. Therefore, in this study, three study regions photographed using a drone were selected: a region where parking lots and a lake coexisted, a downtown region with buildings, and a field region of natural terrain, and the performance of AKAZE (Accelerated-KAZE), BRISK (Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints), KAZE, ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF), SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform), and SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithms were analyzed. The performance of the keypoints extraction algorithms was compared with the distribution of extracted keypoints, distribution of matched points, processing time, and matching accuracy. In the region where the parking lot and lake coexist, the processing speed of the BRISK algorithm was fast, and the SURF algorithm showed excellent performance in the distribution of keypoints and matched points and matching accuracy. In the downtown region with buildings, the processing speed of the AKAZE algorithm was fast and the SURF algorithm showed excellent performance in the distribution of keypoints and matched points and matching accuracy. In the field region of natural terrain, the keypoints and matched points of the SURF algorithm were evenly distributed throughout the image taken by drone, but the AKAZE algorithm showed the highest matching accuracy and processing speed.

Algorithm of Morphological Multimode Binary Shape Decomposition (형태론적 다중모드 2진 형상분해 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a shape decomposition method using morphological operations is studied for decomposing the complex shape in 2-D image into its simple primitive elements. The serious drawback of conventional shape representation algorithm is that primitive elements are extracted too much to represent and to describe the shape. To solve these problems, a new shape decomposition algorithm using primitive elements tat are similar to the geometrical characteristics of shape and 4 scan modes is proposed in this study. The multiple primitive elements as circle, square, and rhombus are extracted by using multiscan modes in a new algorithm. This algorithm have chatacteristics that description error and number of primitive elements is reduced. Then, description efficiency is improved. The procedures is also simple and the processing time is reduced.

A Video Watermarking Based on Wavelet Transform Using Spread Spectrum Technique (대역확산방법을 이용한 웨이블릿 기반의 비디오 워터마킹)

  • In this paper, we proposed a video watermarking algerian based on wavelet transform using statistical characteristic of video according to the energy distribution and the spread spectrum technique. In the proposed method, the original video is splitted by spatial difference metric and classified into the motion region and the motionless region according to the motion degree. The motion region is decomposed into 3-levels using 3D DWT and the motionless region is decomposed into 2-levels using 2D DWT The baseband of the wavelet-decomposed image is not utilized because of the image quality. So that the standard deviation of the highest subband coefficients except for the baseband is used to determine the threshold. Binary video watermarks preprocessed by the random permutation and the spread spectrum technique are embedded into selected coefficients. In computer experiments, the proposed algorithm was found to be more invisible and robust than the conventional algorithms.

  • Automatic nut sorting machine used to calculate the size of inserted nut and detect the black spot defection is introduced in this paper. Because most of farm products are imported from the underdeveloped countries, domestic farm products have no place to be sold in market. To overcome this critical situation, lowering the productivity cost is strongly demanded to compete with foreign corps. Imaged processed nut sorting algorithm is developed to the automatic nut sorting machine to remove the sorting time which takes lots of man power. This system is composed of mainly two parts, mechanical parts and vision system. The purpose of mechanical part is supplying the nuts automatically to make computer system capture the images of objects. Simplified mechanical system was assembled followed by 3D simulation by Pro/E design for the adaptive cost effects. Several image processing algorithms are designed to detect the spot defects and calculate the size of nuts. Test algorithm shows good results to the designed automatic nut sorting system.
