A Study on Dynamic Characteristics Analysis of Hybrid Wind Power Blades according to Material Properties Method (물성치 적용 기법에 따른 하이브리드 풍력 블레이드 동적특성 해석에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the heat transfer coefficient measurement techniques using TSP(temperature sensitive paint) were introduced and the results of a comparative study on the heat transfer coefficient measurement by steady state and transient TSP techniques were discussed. The distributions of heat transfer coefficient by a single $60^{\circ}$ inclined impingement jet on a flat surface were measured by both techniques. Tested Reynolds number based on the jet diameter (d) was 30,000 and the distance between jet exit and target plate (L) was fixed at 10d. Results showed that the measured Nusselt number by both techniques indicated significant difference except near the center of impingement jet. Also, the heat transfer coefficients measured by the transient TSP technique were affected by the reference temperature of the jet. Based on the measured data, characteristics of both TSP techniques were analyzed and suggestions for applying them were also given.

Effects of Tunnel Construction on an Existing Tunnel Lining (터널 근접시공이 기존터널 라이닝에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Effects of new tunnel construction on an existing tunnel are investigated in this paper. A parametric study was conducted on a number of conditions in terms of relative location of the new tunnel to the existing tunnel using 2D and 3D finite element models. The results indicated that the new tunnel construction imposes most severe effect on the existing tunnel's lining when located below the existing tunnel's springline for cases in which the new tunnel is constructed parallel to the existing tunnel. It is also revealed that the effect to the new tunnel construction is larger when the new tunnel is constructed under the existing tunnel than above for cases in which the new tunnel is crossed with the existing tunnel. Practical implications of the finding are discussed.

  • A multi-tasking machine tool for large scale marine engine crankshafts has been developed together with design technologies for its special devices. Since work pieces, that is, crankshafts to be machined are big and heavy; weight of over 100 tons, length of 10 m long, and diameter of over 3.5 m, several special purpose core devices are necessarily developed such as PTD (Pin Turning Device) for machining eccentric pin parts, face place and steady rest for chucking and resting heavy work pieces. PTD is a unique special purpose device of open-and-close ring typed structure equipped with revolving ring spindle for machining eccentric pins apart from journal. In order to achieve high rigidity of the machine tool, structural design optimization using TMSA (Taguch Method based Sequential Algorithm) has been completed with FEM structural analysis, and a hydrostatic bearing system for the PTD has been developed with theoretical hydrostatic analysis.

  • Different from the conventional motor, the superconducting motor has so large air-gap that the actual parameters such as excitation voltage have considerable difference from the values obtained from 2-dimensional electromagnetic analysis. This paper introduces 3-dimensional EMCH(Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network) method or FLUX-3D FEM(Finite Element Method) software to reduce the error originated from the 2-dimensional electromagnetic analysis for the development of a 1 MW class high-temperature superconducting motor.

  • Polyethylene pipes have been widely used as they are easy to construct and suitable for economical efficient when they are compared with metal pipelines. This paper studies the effect of various external loadings on stress and deflection of the buried PE pipes using Finite Element Method(FEM). For this purpose, stresses of buried PE pipes are calculated according to the loading condition such as pipe types (pipe diameter $50{\sim}400mm$), burial depths ($0.6{\sim}1.2m$) and internal pressures ($0.4{\sim}4bar$). As a result, it is founded the effect and relation with each of loading conditions under the buried condition.

  • The line array roll set(LARS) process, as one of many kinds of incremental forming processes, is a continuous process in which a flat metal plate is formed into a singly or doubly curved plate through successive passes of forming rolls. It was found that the curvature level of the formed plates in the previous study was well over the curvature required in shipyards. This fact shows that the LARS method has good potential for shipbuilding applications. The major purpose of the present study is to estimate experimentally the general applicability of the line array roll set process for the manufacture of ship hull plates. In this study, the target shapes are selected through investigation of the shape classification of ship hull plates that comprise a certain vessel. Forming processes for twisted shapes are analyzed with the finite element method(FEM) and the results of experimental work are presented. On the basis of the experimental and numerical results, the LARS process is applied to the production of real outer hull plates of a small patrol ship.

  • The MIAB welding uses a rotating arc as its heat source and is known as an efficient method fur pipe butt welding. The arc is rotated around the weld line by the electro-magnetic force resulting from the interaction of arc current and magnetic field. The electro-magnetic force is affected by magnetic flux density, arc current, and arc length. Especially, the magnetic flux density is an important factor on arc rotation and weld quality. This paper presents a 2D finite element model for the analysis of magnetic flux density in the actual welding conditions. The magnetic flux density is mainly dependent on gap between two pipes, the position of coil from gap center, exciting current, and relative permeability. Thus, the relations between magnetic flux density and main factors were investigated through experiment and analysis. Experiments were performed for the steel pipes(48.1mm O.D and 2.0mm thickness). The analysis results of magnetic flux density reveal that it increases with increasing exciting current, increasing relative permeability, decreasing distance from gap center to coil, and decreasing gap size. It is considered that the results of this study can be used as important data on the design of coil system and MIAB welding system.

Error estimation for 2-D crack analysis by utilizing an enriched natural element method

  • This paper presents an error estimation technique for 2-D crack analysis by an enriched natural element (more exactly, enriched Petrov-Galerkin NEM). A bare solution was approximated by PG-NEM using Laplace interpolation functions. Meanwhile, an accurate quasi-exact solution was obtained by a combined use of enriched PG-NEM and the global patch recovery. The Laplace interpolation functions are enriched with the near-tip singular fields, and the approximate solution obtained by enriched PG-NEM was enhanced by the global patch recovery. The quantitative error amount is measured in terms of the energy norm, and the accuracy (i.e., the effective index) of the proposed method was evaluated using the errors which obtained by FEM using a very fine mesh. The error distribution was investigated by calculating the local element-wise errors, from which it has been found that the relative high errors occurs in the vicinity of crack tip. The differences between the enriched and non-enriched PG-NEMs have been investigated from the effective index, the error distribution, and the convergence rate. From the comparison, it has been justified that the enriched PG-NEM provides much more accurate error information than the non-enriched PG-NEM.

  • Friction welding is a welding method to use frictional heat of a couple of materials. In this paper object is that design the welding part shape with the flow gallery part which there is no effect in flow. Decided the welding part design parameter and doing the friction welding analysis used the rigid-plastic FEM program DEFORM-2D. To do friction welding analysis must input necessary flow stress data, friction coefficient by temperature change, upset pressure and Revolution per minute etc. According to analysis result, it decided the optimal shape of welding part with no effect in flow.

  • Oil seals are most essential parts in mechanical lubrication system to maintain the close gaps between stationary and high rotating components, and to help prevent oil leakages. Oil seals also can prevent harmful contaminants entering from outside to machinery, especially in severe environments. Therefore, the oil seals have an important performance in the machinery components. The performance of the oil seals are influenced by the design variables such as amount of interference gap between the main lip and shaft, the angle of main lip at air and oil sides and the distance between the garter spring and main lip. In the present study, a finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the oil seal performance with the considerations of number of oil seal dust lips and angle of the lip at oil side with the different design variables. As a result from the FEM analysis, the stress and contact pressure distributions was derived, based on this, performance of the sealing and durability were determined.
