2행정 디젤기관의 소기 효율 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation of Scavenging Efficiency in a Two-Stroke Diesel Engine.)

  • 포핏밸브형 2행정 기관의 소기 시스템 형상 변화에 따른 소기유동 및 소기효율의 개선 효과를 해석하기 위해, 각 흡기포트 형상별 소기 유동 가시화와 소기효율 정량화 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 소기시스템의 형상은 기계연구원에서 독자 개발한 RSSV(Rotatable Shrouded Scavenging Valve)의 슈라우드 각도를 변화시켰으며, 소기 효율 정량화를 위해 정상상태하에서 등유와 착색된 물을 사용한 single-cycle method. 동적모사장치(dynamic simulatior)에서 $CO_2$$O_2$가스를 사용한 가스추출법(gas sampling method)을 적용하였으며 실제 기관에서의 소기 효율을 측정하기 위해 압력 선도를 해석하였다. 위 실험들의 결과로부터 $90^circ$슈라우드 밸브가 가장 높은 효율을 가지는 것으로 판명되었으며, 특히 이들 실험방법들은 2행정 엔진 개발에 있어 시간과 비용을 절감하는데 아주 유용한 기법임을 알 수 있었다.

압축기-연소실 일체형인 리니어엔진의 스프링 강성에 따른 연소 및 동적 특성 연구 (The Experimental Research for the Combustion and Dynamic Characteristics of the Linear Engine on the Variable Spring Stiffness)

  • This study was experimentally investigated on the effects of spring stiffness applied to linear compressor chambers. The springs prevented piston head from colliding with engine cover, stored the kinetic energy and regenerated the kinetic energy. The linear engine has two combustion chambers and four compressor chamber. The combustion chamber bore size was 30 mm, maximum stroke was 31 mm and effective stroke volume was 25.45 cc respectively. The spring stiffness was varied such as 0, 0.5, 1.00, 2.9 and 14.7 N/mm. The linear engine was fueled with premixed LPG (propane 99%) and air by pre-mixture device. As an experimental result, The stroke, piston velocity and the piston frequency were increased by high spring stiffness. Also, thermal efficiency was grown. because the increased stroke made the higher compression ratio. In conclusion, electric power and efficiency were improved.

흡입 밸브 각도에 따른 실린더 내 와류 발생 특성 (In-Cylinder Swirl Generation Characteristics according to Intake Valve Angle)

  • Two engines, one is conventional DOHC 4 valve and the other is narrow valve angle, were used to compare the characteristics of swirl motion generation in the cylinder. One intake port is deactivated to induce swirl flow. A PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) was applied to measure in-cylinder velocity field according to inlet valve angle during intake and compression stroke. The results show that the flow patterns of narrow valve engine are much more stable and well arranged compared with the normal engine over the entire intake and compression stroke except early intake stage, and very strong swirl motion is generated at the end of compression stage in this engine nevertheless using straight port which is unfavorable for swirl generating. In the normal engine, however, strong swirl motion induced during intake stroke is destroyed as the compression progresses.

디젤기관의 부하토오크 추정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Estimation of the Load Torque in a Diesel Engine)

  • Recent marine propulsion diesel engines tend to become slower in speed and longer in stroke for the higher engine efficiency, and in these long stroke and slow speed engines the digital governors are highly recommended to be used. But, in the present digital governors only the feedback of the engine rpm-signal is used for the engine speed control. If the load torque of the engine can be measured or estimated and the torque feedback loop is added to the present digital governor, it is expected that the speed control performance of the digital governor will be highly improved. In this paper, a new method is proposed to estimate the load torque of the diesel engine from the measured signals of fuel oil and rpm. And it is also suggested that the Kalman filter can be used for the estimation of engine torque.

  • For predicting the performances of the four stroke cycle spark ignition engines. the gas behavior in the engine system has been analyzed. The calculations consist of two parts. the calculation of the gas behavior in the intake and exhaust systems which was described in the first paper, and the calculation of the variations of gas properties inside the engine cylinders. In this Paper the simulations for the in-cylinder processes were described for the MPI engine, naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines with a carburettor. With the combination of the calculations of the intake and exhaust systems and the calculation of the in-cylinder processes. the predictions of the engine Performances and the exhaust emission characteristics were carried out. And the result showed good agrements with the experimental results under wide range of operating conditions.

  • 최근 LNG 연료 시장의 호황에 힘입어 LNG선들이 점차 대형화 추세에 있고, LNG선의 추진 기관 또한 경제성, 환경 영향 등의 주어진 요구 환경에 따라 다양화 되고 있다. 기존의 Steam Turbine Propulsion 외에 Conventional 2-stroke Diesel Engine 및 Dual-fuel 4-stroke Diesel Engine of LNG선의 주 기관으로서 이미 상용화 되었고, 기술적/경제적인 이유로 일반 상선의 주기관으로서는 논외에 있었던 Gas Turbine 또한 일부 Oil Major와 Gas Turbine Maker에 의해 그 적용 가능성이 논의되고 있다. 이에 따라 LNG 선에 Gas Turbine 적용 타당성, 고려 사항 및 적용에 따른 이점과 단점 등을 고찰하였다.

  • Theoretical analysis about transient torsional vibration was started from early 1960's for high power synchronous motor application. Especially, its simulation and measuring techniques in marine engineering field have been steadily studied by classification societies and designers of large diesel engine. In this paper, the simulation method of transient torsional vibration of two stroke low speed diesel engine using the Newmark method are introduced.

  • For the past years, higher power rating 2 stroke super long stroke diesel engines having more than 8 cylinders and larger cylinder bore are installed mainly on very large containerships to save on fuel consumption. However, these engines are prone to X-mode vibration due to 2nd node torsional vibration or the X-type moment, particularly because of the increase in total length and height. Recently, cases of excessive X-mode vibration often occurred on engine's major components. This vibration is manifested also as secondary vibration causing failure in engine-mount large structures. This study investigated the excitations caused by the 2nd node propulsion shafting torsional vibration that influence X-mode vibration of the main engine and practical countermeasures are proposed. An 8RT-flex82T 8 cylinder engine and 11S90ME-C 11 cylinder engine for a container ship was used as research model.

  • The increasing needs for higher cargo capacity in the container vessels' fleet has led to ship builder's demand for higher power output rating engine to meet the propulsion requirement, thus, leading to the development of super large two stroke low speed diesel engines. This large sized bore engines with more than 12 cylinders are capable of delivering power output up to more than 100,000 bhp at maximum continuous rating. The thrust variation force due to axial vibration occurring in propulsion shafting of these ships are transmitted to ship structure via thrust bearing. This force may vibrate the super structure of ship in the fore-aft direction and the fatigue strength of crank shaft can be decreased by additional bending stress increase in crank shaft pin and journal. In this paper, the axial vibration of propulsion shafting system on the 14RT-flex96C super large diesel engine with 14 cylinders is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.
