Shielding for reducing exposure dose can make the diagnosis limited. The purpose of this study is to increase the efficiency of radiation protection and minimize the loss of image information by producing the shielding made of the water and the contrast medium which has different proportion and finding out the ideal proportion of them. Each shielding materials were made of water and water-soluble iodine contrast medium with the different proportion. The attenuation rate of absorbed dose was evaluated by the shielding materials in the plastic contents for measuring the efficiency of the radiation protection. As a result, the higher ratio of the contrast medium, the more efficient it is for radiation attenuation. The anatomical structure was observed most properly in case of the solution with 20 ml of the contrast medium and most difficultly in case of more than 60 ml of the contrast medium. In case of the signal intensity between skeleton and gas, the difference of average value had a significant as p < 0.001. Shielding with contrast medium attenuates less than the conventional shielding but in the examination for the sensitive part to radiation, it can be used to minimize the loss of the image information and reduce the exposure dose.

Purpose : This study presents the usefulness assessment of secondary shield for the lens exposure dose reduction during radiation treatment of peripheral orbit. Materials and Methods : We accomplished IMRT treatment plan similar with a real one through the computed treatment planning system after CT simulation using human phantom. For the secondary shield, we used Pb plate (thickness 3mm, diameter 25mm) and 3 mm tungsten eye-shield block. And we compared lens dose using OSLD between on TPS and on simulation. Also, we irradiated 200 MU(6 MV, SPD(Source to Phantom Distance)=100 cm, $F{\cdot}S\;5{\times}5cm$) on a 5cm acrylic phantom using the secondary shielding material of same condition, 3mm Pb and tungsten eye-shield block. And we carried out the same experiment using 8cm Pb block to limit effect of leakage & transmitted radiation out of irradiation field. We attached OSLD with a 1cm away from the field at the side of phantom and applied a 3mm bolus equivalent to the thickness of eyelid. Results : Using human phantom, the Lens dose on IMRT treatment plan is 315.9cGy and the real measurement value is 216.7cGy. And after secondary shield using 3mm Pb plate and tungsten eye-shield block, each lens dose is 234.3, 224.1 cGy. The result of a experiment using acrylic phantom, each value is 5.24, 5.42 and 5.39 cGy in case of no block, 3mm Pb plate and tungsten eye-shield block. Applying O.S.B out of the field, each value is 1.79, 2.00 and 2.02 cGy in case of no block, 3mm Pb plate and tungsten eye-shield block. Conclusion : When secondary shielding material is used to protect critical organ while irradiating photon, high atomic number material (like metal) that is near by critical organ can be cause of dose increase according to treatment region and beam direction because head leakage and collimator & MLC transmitted radiation are exist even if it's out of the field. The attempt of secondary shield for the decrease of exposure dose was meaningful, but untested attempt can have a reverse effect. So, a preliminary inspection through Q.A must be necessary.
If the target volume cannot be included with one field at head and neck cancer, we commonly used two or more field. It is very important to irradiate uniform dose at junction area of the fields. However, according to body shape of patient or general condition of patient, skin junction area can be matched incorrect, So overdose area or underdose area can be appeared in the junction area. This study researched therapy technique which can give uniform dose at skin junction owing to applying the edge block of lateral field at head and neck cancer. We measured the changed distance and rotational angle between central line of anterior supraclavicle lymph node and low margin of right lateral field on simulation process using the shielding block of variable rotation. As a result, the changed distance between central line of anterior supraclavicle lymph node and low margin of right lateral field was below 2mm to ${\pm}$10cm distance at central line of Y axis, changed angle was average 1.28 degree. But by using it the shielding block of variable rotation, the incorrect match at junction can be minimized. We think that this technique is very efficient one to apply this technique at head and neck cancered by the movement of organs can be not included, Therefore we have to pay attention on the process to imput MLC layer
This study was designated to investigate the bremsstrahlung and radiation dose by beta rays. Radiation attenuation from I-131 treatment ward was analyzed using radio protective apron. Shielding materials which is included lead or water were simulated in Monte Carlo Simulation then the spectrum on interaction was analyzed. The shielding materials were categorized according to the thickness. 0.25mm and 0.5mm thick lead and 0.1mm and 0.2mm thick water shielding materials were configured in Monte Carlo Simulation for this study. Only lead shielding method and water plus lead shielding method were carried. As a results, when 0.5mm thick lead shielding method was performed, the radiation dose was similar to the results with water plus lead shielding method. In case of using 0.25mm thick lead shielding, the shielding effect was somewhat less. However, that shielding method cause dose reduction of about 60% compare with non-shielding material.

There are various type of particle accelerators such as Kyoungju 100-MeV proton beam accelerator in Korea. And Korea plans to build large particle accelerator such as heavy ion accelerator and 4th generation light source facility. The accelerated high energy particles of these facility produce 2nd neutron after nuclear reaction with target materials. And then these 2nd neutron activate structural materials and surrounding environment. Accordingly, it is important to consider the activation and shielding calculation on design of facility for safety operation. In this study, we tried to calculate and compare the neutron flux from the interaction $^{la}150$ beam with target material(Cu) according to thickness of iron and concrete shielding material by MCNPX 2.7 with nuclear library JENDL/HE 07and la150. To verify the properties of nuclear library, we compared computational results with experimental value. These results can be used for dose evaluation technology in planning of the shielding of large particle accelerator.
We developed a new method that the radiation field shape and intensity could be controlled automatically with a insertion of the liquid shielding material box having a rotatable model imitated the 3-dimensional target volume within. The molded box filled with the mercury was mounted to the tray. A acrylic model imitated the 3-dimensional target volume was fixed into the center of the interior of the box. Although the gentry rotate, the acrylic model can be returned to the original direction of the target due to the action of the gravity. The film measurements at the gantry rotation angle 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, and 90$^{\circ}$, respectively were shown that the radiation intensities were modulated properly and the field shapes were conformed to the target. We verified the dose distribution for our method with a cylindrical acrylic phantom inserted a film within. In the case of the 8-field irradiation, the 80% isodose line was enclosed the target shape properly. This results show the realization of a new intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT).

This paper presents the study of leakage effect due to multi-cell inflater of rapid protection system to protect the possibilities of tunnel damages by flooding threats and unusual leakage to be occurred during and after subsea tunnel construction. Particularly, this protect system should be necessary in subsea tunnel. This research concentrates the physical model tests due to several multi-cell inflater to study protection capacity of leakage between the inflater and tunnel liner. A 27:1 small scale model are used in the model tests. The leakage rate, water pressure and axial displacement of inflater are measured during the model tests. According to the results, the minium leakage rate clearly shows in the case of two-cell inflater compared with in other cases. It is concluded that the results of this research will be very useful to understand the fundamental information of inflater structure design and development the technology of tunnel protection structures in the future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to colorimetrically evaluate the masking effect of different opacity of ingots on the final shade of IPS Empress Esthetic$^{(R)}$ laminate veneer restorations using the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ system. Materials and methods: Six porcelain disks of IPS Empress Esthetic$^{(R)}$ system (translucency: E 01, E 03, E 0C-1, E TC-1, E TC-2, E TC-3) were fabricated with 7 mm in diameter and 0.6 mm in thickness. Six extracted human incisors (shade: A1, A3, A4, B2, B3, C3) were used as the abutment specimens. The incisors were prepared using a diamond wheel and made with a flat labial surface on the middle 1/3. For each combination of different shades of abutments and copings, the change in color was measured with a colorimeter. CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ coordinates were recorded for each specimen. Color differences (${\Delta}E$) were calculated. Descriptive statistical analysis was done. Results: ${\Delta}E$ values were significantly affected by coping translucency and abutment shade (P<.05). The color differences (${\Delta}E$) of laminate veneers among abutments with A3, B3, C3, and A4 shade were mostly below 2.7 which was within the clinically acceptable range, while color differences between A4 and B2, A3 and B2, and A1 and A4 showed more than 2.7. Conclusion: The final color of IPS Empress Esthetic$^{(R)}$ laminate veneers were significantly influenced by translucency of the coping and shade of abutment teeth. The large value difference of abutment teeth limited the masking ability by laminate veneers.
Total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation source called as TRSFA was explored to achieve high sensitivities to impurity metals on Si wafer surface. It consists of monochromating part to select a specific wavelength, slit part to shield direct beam and to control monochromated beam, and main chamber to dectect fluorescent X-ray counts of impurities on si wafer. Monochromated X-ray of 10.90 KeV was selected and the optimum total reflection condition on silicon wafer was obtained through tuning the dead time and fluorescent X-ray count of Si and Fe. TRSFA system could increase the sensitivity as high as 50 times in comparision with TRXFA using normal X-ray source. But the trend was varied since the surface conditions of Si wafers and, therefore, the reflectivities were different. Furthemore, there seems to be a promising path to reaching a detection limit useful to the next generation metal impurities control, because Fe impurity below to the $5\times10^{9}\textrm{atomas/cm}^2$ can be detectable through the developed TRSFA system.
