Low Cycle Fatigue Characteristics of Duplex Stainless Steel with Degradation under Pure Torsional Load (순수 비틀림 하중하에서 열화를 고려한 2상 스데인리스강의 저주기 피로특성)

  • Monotonic torsional and pure torsional low cycle fatigue(LCF) test with artificial degradation were performed on duplex stainless steel(CF8M). CF8M is used in pipes and valves in nuclear reactor coolant system. It was aged at 430$^{\circ}C$ for 3600hrs. Through the monotonic and LCF test, it is found that mechanical properties(i.e., yield strength, strain hardening exponent, strength coefficient etc.) increase and fatigue life(N$\sub$f/) decreases with degradation of material. The relationship between shear strain amplitude(${\gamma}$$\sub$a/)and N$\sub$f/ was proposed.

  • Micro duplex stainless steel is used to denote a fine scale two-phase micro structure consisting austenite and firrite. The development of this structure was done by proper thermo-mechanical processing. The objective of present investigation is to study creep characteristics of this alloy. Since we have little design data about the W behaviors of the alloy. An apparatus has been designed and built fir conducting creep tests under constant load conditions. A series of creep tests on them have been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of micro duplex stainless steel products and we have gotten the 1311owing results. First the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy Gradually decreases as the stresses become higher. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller Parameters on this alloy is estimated as about 5. Last, the fiactographs at the creep rupture show both the ductile and brittle fracture modes according to the creep conditions.

  • The bonding phenomena and mechanical property of duplex stainless steel during brazing have been investigated. The UNS32550 was used for base metal, and the MBF50 was used for insert metal. Brazing was carried out under the various conditions (brazing temperature : 1473K, 1498K, holding time : 0∼1.8ks). There were various microconstituents in the bonded interlayer because of reaction between liquid insert metal and base metal. In the early stage of brazing, BN is formed in the bonded interlayer and base metal near the bonded layer. Cr made is formed in the bonded interlayer. The amount of BN and Cr nitrides decrease with the increase of bonding temperature and holding time. Superior shear strength of 550MPa is obtained by restraining the formation of nitrides. Evaluation of the $\sigma$-Phase Degradation for Cast Stainless Steel CF8M by the Electrochemical Method (전기화학적 방법에 의한 주조 스테인리스강 CF8M $\sigma$상 열화평가)

  • The present investigation is concerned with the degradation characteristics of cast stainless steel(CF8M), exposed to the $\sigma$-phase degradation at $700^{\circ}C$. In the present paper, the degradation of CF8 M at $700^{\circ}C$ is evaluated by a non-destructive test, DL-EPR(double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation). The surface of specimens is observed by using scanning electron microscopy after DL-EPR test. Also. chromium contents of matrix, grain boundary and ferrite phase are analyzed by electron probe X-ray micro analyzer. Through the experiments, the following results are obtained 1) The degree of sensitization(DOS) of CF8M aged up to 15hr at $700^{\circ}C$ is increased with acing time while that is decreased with aging time from 15hr to 150hr. 2) The impact energy decreases with increase of $\sigma$-phase while DOS increases with $\sigma$-phase until aging time reaches to 15hr. After the aging time. 15hr, the $\sigma$-phase and the rate of impact energy with respect to aging time decreases. Therefore the degradation behavior of the CF8M can be evaluated by comparing SEM micrographs and the value of DOS.

  • In this paper the influence of postweld heat treatment on mechanical properties of SMAW and FCAW stainless steel weldments was examined and the obtained results are as follows ; (1) The amount of $\delta$-ferrite formed by SMAW and FCAW process decreased with increasing holding temperature and time in post weld heat treatment(PWHT), and it was found that the reduced ferrite was transformed into sigma phase after $800^{circ}C{\times}50hr$ PWHT. This sigma phase, even though it was very small, resulted in brittleness of dissimilar weldment between carbon steel and stainless steel in bending test, however in similar weldment between stainless steel and stainless steel was not occured. (2) The chemical composition of sigma phase was measured to 28-30%Cr, 7-9%Mo, 4-6Ni in 316L weldment, and also 35-37%Cr, 0.9-1.0Mo, 6-8%Ni in 309L weldment by EDS analysis.

A Study on the Precipitation of σ Phase in Super Duplex Stainless Steel (슈퍼 2상 스테인리스강의 σ상 석출에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the influence of ${\sigma}$ phase on the microstructure and mechanical properties in super duplex stainless steel. The precipitation of ${\sigma}$ phase during isothermal heat treatment showed the type S curves with a certain incubation period. The precipitation of ${\sigma}$ phase was precipitated at ferrite phase and interface of ferrite and austenite. Under the state of isothermal transformation, the precipitation of ${\sigma}$ phase was stimulated by applied stress. With increasing of volume fraction of precipitated ${\sigma}$ phase, tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased with linear relationship, while in case of precipitated ${\sigma}$ phase was 5% over, impact value was rapidly decreased.

  • The brazing of copper alloys and duplex stainless steels is an indispensable manufacturing technology for thrust chambers with regenerative cooling. For setting up the optimized brazing conditions, C18200 copper alloy plate with machined cooling channels and S31803 stainless steel plate are brazed with AMS4764 filler metals of which thickness is 50${\mu}m$ and 80${\mu}m$ They are tested by X-ray radiography, strength/leakage and fracture tests, and fracture surface inspection. The results obtained by the suggested conditions are that the specimen brazed with filler metal thickness of 50${\mu}m$ has good strength properties and brazed zone. However, the specimen with filler metal thickness of 80${\mu}m$ has the brazed zone with cooling channel obstruction and enlargement.

Effect of R Phase Formation on the Mechanical Properties of 25Cr-7Ni-2Mo-4W Super Duplex Stainless Steel (25Cr-7Ni-2Mo-4W 슈퍼 2상 스테인리스강의 기계적 성질에 미치는 R상의 영향)

  • In this study, we investigated the precipitation behavior of the R-phase precipitated at the initial stage of aging and its effects on the mechanical properties of 25%Cr-7%Ni-2%Mo-4%W super duplex stainless steel. The R-phase was mainly precipitated at the interface of ferrite/austenite phases and inside of the ferrite phase during the initial stage of aging. It was transformed into the ${\sigma}$-phase with an increase of the aging time. The ferrite phase was decomposed into a new austenite(${\gamma}_2$)phase and the ${\sigma}$-phase by an aging treatment. The R phase was an intermetallic compound showing higher molybdenum and tungsten concentrations than the matrix and also showed higher molybdenum and tungsten concentrations than the ${\sigma}$ phase. In the initial stage of aging, precipitation of the R-phase did not change the hardness, the strength and the elongation. The hardness and the strength increased upon a longer aging time, but the elongation rapidly decreased. These results show that the R-phase did not significantly affect the hardness and the strength, though it did influence the elongation.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the precipitation behavior of ${\chi}$ phase and effect of ${\chi}-phase$ which precipitated at the initial stage of aging on mechanical properties of 25%Cr-7%Ni-4%Mo-0.2%N super duplex stainless steel. ${\chi}-phase$ was precipitated mainly at the interface of ferrite / austenite phases and inside of the ferrite phase at the initial stage of aging, and it was transformed into ${\sigma}-phase$ with an increase of aging time. The ferrite phase was decomposed into new $austenite({\gamma}_2)phase$ and ${\sigma}-phase$ by aging treatment. The hardness and tensile strength of the initial stage of aging when ${\chi}-phase$ was precipitated did not changed considerably, while elongation rapidly decreased. Accordingly, it is considered that ${\chi}-phase$ didn't affect the hardness and strength significantly, but it affected the elongation.

Relationship Between Mechanical Properties and Damping Capacity in Stainless Steel with Two Phases of Reversed Austenite and Deformation Induced Martensite (역변태 오스테나이트와 가공유기 마르텐사이트의 2상 혼합조직을 갖는 스테인리스강의 기계적 성질과 감쇠능)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between mechanical properties and damping capacity in high manganese austenitic stainless steel with two phase mixed structure of reversed austenite and deformation induced martensite. Reversed austenite of ultra-fine grain size less than $0.3{\mu}m$ was obtained by reversion treatment. Two phase structure of deformation induced martensite and reversed austenite was obtained by annealing treatment at range of $500^{\circ}C{\sim}700^{\circ}C$ for various time in cold rolled high manganese austenite stainless steel. In stainless steel with two phase mixed structure of martensite and austenite, damping capacity decreased rapidly with the increasing hardness and strength. With the increasing elongation, damping capacity was increased rapidly and then, slowly increased.
