미국 포드대통령은 지난1월17일 ,1977년 10월부터 시작되는 1978년도 예산교서를 발표한바 있다. 이 예산안은 카터 신임대통령 및 국회에 의해 수정될 가능성은 있으나 그중 과학기술에 관한 예산에는 별변동이 없을 것으로 예상되고 있다. 이 예산안에 따르면 과학기술 예산총액은 280억불, 한화로 14조원(500:1비로볼때)이라는 방대한 규모이다. 이것은 1977년도에 비해 약8%가 증가된 것이나 인프레에 따르는 6%의 물가상승률을 감안할 때 실질적으로는 2%의 증가로 봄이 옳을 것이다. 주요부문의 연구개발비와 그 증가율 및 기초연구에 해당액은 다음과 같다.

Redey는 1974년 이후에는 생산되고 있지 않으며 Stinger는 1978년부터 생산되고 있고 Stinger/Post는 1982년부터 생산될 계획이라고 판단된다. Stinger Alternate는 실용화되지 않고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the history of geography in China from 1909 when the Chinese Geographical Society(zhonguo dixuehui) was established to 1978 when the reform and open policy was initiated. The investigation was done with an emphasis on the history of institutions like academic societies, university departments and institutes. Before the PRC's establishment, the Chinese Geographical Society, the Chinese Historical Geography Society(yugong xuehui) and the Geographical Society of China(zhongguo dili xuehui) were established. After the PRC's establishment, however, the academic societies were merged together. The first university department of geography was that of Dongnan university(Nanjing university) established by Zu Kezhen in 1921. Since that Zhongshan university, Zhejiang university, Qinghua university, Beijing normal university and Beijing university established the geography departments. In 1950s the academic societies and university departments experienced the restructuring of organization and the Institute of Geography in Chinese Academy of Science was established. At that time the task of geography imposed by PRC was to serve to agricultural production and to introduce advanced Soviet science. From the beginning of the Cultural Revolution in 1966 to the eve of reform and open policy in 1978, the geography in China has experienced some deep recession. The reform and open policy was a new opportunity and crisis to geographers in China.

1974년 9월부터 1980년 1월까지 6년간 진해만에서 식물성플랑크톤 개체군의 생태적 천이에 관하여 조사하였다. 1974년 9월∼1975년 5월에는 천이계열이 Skeletonema costatum-Eucampia zodiacus Chaetoceros spp.-Nitzschia pungens- Leptocylindrus danicus, 1976년 7월-1978년 5월 Skeletonema costatum-Thalassiosira hyalina- Chaetoceros spp. -Leptocylindrus danicus(Nitzschia pungens), 1978년 7월-1980년 1월 Chaetoceros socialis-Skeletonema costatum-Chaetoceros spp. -Leptocylindrus danicus-Skeletonema costatum(Biddulphia mobiliensis)으로 천이계열이 바뀌어가고 있으며 이들은 계절에 따라 수온의 변화와 밀접한 관계가 있었다. 최근에는 이 해역에서 Skeletonema costatum이 계절에 관계없이 대량출현하여 이 종에 의해 점점 성숙한 천이계열을 형성해 가고 있다.

Effect of ripening methods and harvesting time on vitamin content of 5 tomato varieties was investigated in 1978 and 1979. Ascorbic acid content in the breaker ripened tomatoes was significantly higher than that in the vine ripened tomatoes, and the result was consistent for two consecutive years. Ascorbic acid content in the vine ripened tomatoes markedly increased as the season progressed, early harvested tomatoes containing significantly less ascorbic acid. Carotene content was not significantly affected by the ripening method. Higher carotene content, however, was observed for tomatoes harvested in the late season. This result could indicate the effect of temperature for carotenogenesis around the harvest time. Thiamin and riboflavin contents in the vine ripened tomatoes were significantly higher than those in the breaker ripened tomatoes in the 1978 season, but these differences were not observed in the 1979 season. Thiamin and riboflavin contents in the vine ripened tomatoes decreased considerably as the season progressed. Thiamin and riboflavin contents in tomatoes harvested in the early season were significantly higher than those in the mid and late seasons.

편집자주: 공해문제가 사회적인 문제로 크게 대두된 것은 이미 1970년경부터이다. 일반적으로 공해라 하면 예컨대, 자동차의 배기가스 공해, 도시페기물공해 등 불특정다수이므로 특정상대를 정할 수 없이 일반적으로 이들을 총괄하여 공해, 즉 Pollution 또는 Environment라고 할 수 있으며, 일괄적인 방지대책이 강구되는 바이다. 따라서 본고는 일본 고무협회지 1978년 2월호에 게재된 일본지포공업대학의 연구논문 중에서 특히 고무공업에 관한 공해문제를 연구하는 데 많은 도움일 될 것으로 생각되는 중요부분을 발췌소개 한 것이다.

Among alcohol preserved adult specimens of non-biting midges(Chironomidae, Diptera) which were collected at various localities in 1977-1978, three new species are identified and named Pentapedilum parasordens n. sp., Micropsectra koreana n.sp. and Rheotanytarsus gayaensis n. sp., which are fully described with illustration.

한 아이가 태어나서 말을 배우고 글을 읽고 쓰게 되기까지에는 여러 가지 요인들이 성공적으로 작용해야 한다. 아동이 해부학적으로 정상적 뇌, 조음 관련 기관, 감각-운동기관을 가져야 하며. 사회적으로 언어적 자극속에 노출되어야 하고. 또 문제 해결이나 의사소통을 위해 말 또는 글이라는 도구를 사용할 수 있어야 한다(Fletcher 1973 ; Kent 1976 ; Kent 1984 ; Spreen et al. 1984 ; Vygotsky 1978). 언어 발달의 기간도 매우 길어 기본적 말의 틀이 3년에서 5년 정도 걸려 완성된 이후 본격적으로 성인언어에 가까운 문법이나 조음 능력을 가지는 데에는 또 여러 해가 더 필요하다(Bloom 1970 ; Bloom 1991 ; Bloom and Lahey 1978 ; Bruner 1983 ; Pinker 1984 ; Radford 1990).
