The crown ether ring of 20, 21, 24, 25-tetranitrodibenzo-18-crown-6(TNDB-18-C-6) was cleaved by various alcoholic bases to give 2,4,5-trialkoxynitrobenzene derivatives and 4,5-dialkoxy-1,2-dinitrobenzene derivatives as the major products, and bis[(alkoxynitrophenoxy)ethyl]ether derivatives from partially cleaved crown ether ring as the minor products. The ring cleavage reaction of TNDB-18-C-6 with ethylene glycolic base resulted ring contraction through intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization of the initially formed ring cleavage product to give nitro derivatives of DB-14-C-4.
Solvent extraction equilibria of alkali metal cation with crown ether (DC18C6, DC24C8) and HDEHP have been studied. The extraction equilibrium constants increase in the order of, in the DC18C6 system, $Na^+, and in the DC24C8 system, $Rb^+. The species extracted to organic phase are $M_1(crown ether)_1\;(HDEHP)_1$. The magnitude of extraction equilibrium constant is determined by the distribution ratio of crown ether between organic and aqueous phase, and stability constant of crown ether-alkali metal complex.
New bis-crown ether containing siloxane chain was synthesized. 1,3-Bis(trimethylsiloxy)-1,3-dimethyl-1,3-di(4'-ethylbenzo-18-crown-6) disiloxane (1) was synthesized by reaction of 4'-vinylbenzo-18-crown-6 with 1,3-bis(trimethylsiloxy)-1,3-dimethyl-1,3-disiloxane in the presence of Pt catalyst. 4'-Vinylbenzo-18-crown-6 was prepared through five-step reaction which started from the reaction of catechol and acetic anhydride.

To determine the influence of the cationization agent on the collision activated dissociation (CAD) fragmentation behavior of oligosaccharides, the CAD spectra of the singly protonated, sodiated oligosaccharides and singly sodiated and dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether conjugated oligosaccharides were carefully compared. Each of these three different species showed quite different fragmentation spectra. The comparison of singly protonated and sodiated oligosaccharide CAD spectra revealed that different cationization agents affected the cationization agent adduction sites as well as the fragmentation sites within the oligosaccharides. When the mobility of $Na^+$ was limited by the dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether encapsulation agent, the examined linear oligosaccharides showed fragmentation patterns quite different from the unmodified ones. For the dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether conjugated oligosaccharides, the charge-remote fragmentation pathways were more likely to be activated than the chargedirected pathways. This work demonstrates that dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether conjugation can potentially provide a route to selectively activate the charge-remote fragmentation pathways, albeit to a limited extent, in tandem mass spectrometry studies.
Novel azacrown ether containing blue -light emitting anthracene fluorophore, 9,10-bis [p-(1-aza-18-crown-6)methylphenyl] anthracene (3) and N,N-bis [9-(p-methylphenyl) anthracenyl-methyl] -1,6-diaza-18-crown-6 (4) were prepared by reacting anthracene derivatives 1 and 2 with mono- and diaza-18-crown-6, respectively Also, crown ether containing fluorophore copolymer (5) were prepared by reacting 1,6-diaza-18-crown-6 with 1. Their fluorescence emission spectral studies were investigated by binding group I, group II and various metal cations. The fluorophores showed an absorption at ${\lambda}_{max}$= 372 nm and an emission at ${\lambda}_{max}$= 430 nm. pH Dependency of fluorescence emission intensity were examined to determine the optimum pH for the fluorophores.

The article reports the synthesis and enantiomeric recognition of a new chiral azophenolic pyridino-18-crown-6 ether, (S,S)-6, possessing diphenyl groups as chiral barriers. The association constants for the enantiomeric recognition of chiral primary amines (7-12) using chiral azophenolic pyridino-18-crown-6 ether, (S,S)-6, were determined by UV-visible titration method in acetonitrile at $25{^{\circ}C}$.
A series of new thorium nitrate complexes with crown ethers have been synthesized from the reaction of the hydrated thorium nitrate, with the appropriate crown ethers of different cavity sizes in various solvents such as methanol, ethanol, butanol, methylacetate, acetone, tetrahydrofuran and acetylacetone. CHN elemental analysis, ICPAS, thermal analysis and Karl-Fischer method have been used to characterize their compositions, and the spectroscopic methods of IR, UV, $^1H-NMR$, and X-ray diffraction have been employed to determine the structures and solvolysis phenomena of these complexes. and the electrical conductances were measured in DMSO, and water solvent. The solvolysis have been observed only in the complexes synthesized in acetylacetone solvent. In the solvated complexes of 15-crown-5 and 18-crown-6, the mole ratio of $Th^{4+}$: ligand : acetylacetone is found to be 1:1:1, but in the non-solvated complexes of 12-crown-4 and 15-crown-5, the mole ratios of Th:L are 1:2 and 2:3, respectively, and that in the complexes of both 18-crown-6 and dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 is 1:1. All complexes which were not solvated have shown $n{\to}{\sigma}^{\ast}$ electronic transitions of crown ether whereas complexes solvated have exhibited both $n{\to}{\sigma}^{\ast}$ of crown ether and $n{\to}{\pi}^{\ast}$ transitions of acac. The dissociation mole ratio of $Th^{4+}$ and nitrate ion is found to be 1:1 in aprotic solvent, and 1:4 in protic solvent like water.
Dibenzo-18-crown-6, dibenzo-21-crown-7 and dihydroxy dibenzo-18-crown-6 were synthesized by Bayer-Villiger oxidation strategy. Dibenzo-18-crown-6 and dibenzo-21-crown-7 could be synthesized through a three-step protocol starting from salicylaldehyde. Salicylaldehyde was reacted with bis-(2-chloroethyl)ether using $K_2CO_3$ in acetonitrile to link the two phenolic groups with the oxyethylene bridge followed by conversion of the formyl group to the hydroxy group via a Baeyer-Villiger reaction and finally linking the two phenolic group with appropriate oxyethylene bridge. The two target crown ethers were obtained in overall yield, 24% and 30%, respectively. This method has a great potential for synthesis of symmetrical as well as unsymmetrical dibenzo crowns with varying oxyethylene bridges. Baeyer-Villiger oxidation could be used to prepare dihydroxy derivative of dibenzo-18-crown-6 through acetylation of dibenzo-18-crown-6 followed by Baeyer-Villiger oxidation. The Baeyer-Villiger oxidation could be substantially accelerated using trifluoroacetic acid.

The synergistic solvent extraction of rare earth elements such as europium and yttrium has been investigated by the extractant with crown ether as an additive. Macrocyclic ligand as host-guest compounds form more stable complexes with metal ions which have the similar size of the cavity of crown ether. In our previous study[14] founded that the extraction used fatty acid of the various alkyl chain length. Based on the results of the previous experiment, the synergistic separation effect of two metals investigated that the hexanoic acid had was the worst extraction effect which added a crown ether such as 18-crown-6 ether, 15-crown-5 ether, and 12-crown-4 ether. In this study, the concentrations of hexanoic acid have showed the separation effect, and then the concentrations and kind of crown ether are performed for synergistic extraction at the hexanoic acid concentration of the highest separation effect. As a results, the separation rate is the highest value of 1.72 at 0.05 M hexanoic acid, and 0.002M 15-crown-5 ether is the best value in other concentrations and kind of crown ether, it is about twice of using only hexanoic acid. Moreover, the extraction species of two metals has been founded $MLR_3{\cdot}3RH$ form when added the crown ether.

We report herein synthetic results obtained new types of crown ethers containing coumarin group. Crown ethers containing coumarin group 1~3 are hydroxymethyl-15-crown-5-ether linked with 4-hydroxy coumarin-4-acetic acid by esterification reaction. Crown ethers containing coumarin group 1~3 have different cavity in each crown ether rings. The 12-crown-4 ether with coumarin 1 has the smallest cavity size. The 15-crown-5 ether with coumarine 2 has the medium cavity size. The 18-crown-6 ether with coumarin 3 has the largest cavity size. Therefore each crown ether with coumarin group will recognize different ionic radius meta. Because of different hole size in crown ethers, these crown ethers seem to be had different selectivity in luminescent sensors. The crown ethers with coumarine 1~3 synthesized hydroxymethyl-15-crown-5-ether and 4-hydroxy coumarin-4-acetic acid same ratio at one to one. The synthesized crown ethers were characterized respectively by IR, NMR. GC-Mass.
