Effect of Alcohol Fermented Feed on Lactating Performance, Blood Metabolites, Milk Fatty Acid Profile and Cholesterol Content in Holstein Lactating Cows

  • A feeding experiment with 40 lactating Holstein cows and 4 dietary treatments was conducted to investigate supplementation with different levels of alcohol fermented feed to the TMR on lactating performance, blood metabolites, milk fatty acid profile and cholesterol concentration of blood and milk. Forty Holstein lactating cows ($106{\pm}24$ d post-partum; mean${\pm}$SD) were distributed into four groups and randomly assigned to one of four treatments with each containing 10 cows per treatment. The treatment supplemented with TMR (DM basis) as the control (CON), and CON mixed with alcohol-fermented feeds (AFF) at a level of 5%, 10% and 15% of the TMR as T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Dry matter intake and milk yield were not affected by supplementation of AFF. An increased 4% FCM in the milk occurred in cows fed T3 diet compared with CON, while T1 and T2 diets decreased 4% FCM in a dose dependent manner. Supplementation of AFF increased the concentration of albumin, total protein (TP), ammonia, and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol in serum compared with CON. In contrast, supplementation with AFF clearly decreased concentration of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and total cholesterol (TC) compare with CON. AFF supplementation increased the proportion of C18:1n9 and C18:2n6 compared to CON. A decrease in the concentration of saturated fatty acid (SFA) for T1, T2 and T3 resulted in an increased unsaturated fatty acid (USFA) to SFA ratio compared to CON. Concentration of cholesterol in milk fat was reduced in proportion to the supplemental level of AFF. Feeding a diet supplemented with a moderate level AFF to lactating cows could be a way to alter the feed efficiency and fatty acid profile of milk by increasing potentially human consumer healthy fatty acid without detrimental effects on feed intake and milk production. A substantially decreased cholesterol proportion in milk induced by supplementation AFF suggests that alcohol fermented feed may improve milk cholesterol levels without any negative effects in lactating cows.

  • 본 연구는 국민학교 실과 과목의 식품 영양 단원에 관한 교사, 학생의 인지 및 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능 평가를 위하여 71개 인천시내 공립 국민학교 4,5,6학년 교사 510명과 12개교학생 1,754명을 대상으로 설문조사를 통한 내용을 분석한 것으로 연구의 목적은 1)실과의 정해진 교육목표에 관한 교사의 인지정도 규명 2)식품, 영양 단원에서 교사가 중요하다고 인지하는 내용과 가르치기에 어려움을 느끼는 내용 규명 3)교사가 인지하는 식품영양 단원학습을 증진하기 위한 요소 4) 학생들이 흥미를 느끼는 내용 5)본 단원 학습 후 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능 정도 6)지식, 태도 기능간의 상호 상관관계 규명 등이며 그 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 교사들이 인지하는 실과의 정해진 교육목표는 거의 모두가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 2. 교사들이 인지하는 식품 영양 단원의 중요한 내용은 영양과 질병과의 관계, 식품위생, 식품저장 등이며, 가장 중요하지 않은 내용으로는 영양 필요량이었다. 또한, 지도에 어려움을 느끼는 내용은 영양 필요량, 조리준비, 식품구성/함유량 등이며 어려움을 느끼지 않는 내용은 영양과 질병과의 관계, 식품위생, 식품저장 등이었다. 3. 교사가 인지하는 단원 학습 증진을 위한 긍정적 요소는 적합한 실습설비와 자료, 시청가자료등이었고 부정적 요소는 남교사, 실험 실습이 필요한 부분은 숙제로 미루는 것 등이었다. 4. 학생들이 흥미를 느끼는 내용으로는 간단한 음식 만들기, 영양소의 기능, 영양문제 등이었고, 쥬스나 차 준비, 조리연료, 부엌용구 사용법 등은 흥미를 느끼지 못하는 내용이었다. 5. 학생의 학업성취 중 지식은 4학년이 식품위생, 기초식품군이, 5학년은 알맞은 조리용구, 조리원리, 6학년은 여가활용의 뜻, 올바른 예절 등이 90% 이상 바르게 답하였고 5학년의 삶은 달걀의 화학적 변화, 감자의 주된 영양 등은 60%이하였다. 6 태도 테스트 결과는 5학년이 4,6학년보다 약간 높은정도(Mn=3.653) 였으나 기능테스트에서는 4학년이 5,6학년보다 약간 낮게 (Mn=3.0) 나타났다(구체적인 것은 본문 참조). 7, 4, 5, 6학년 모두 지식, 태도 기능 간에 정적 상관을 나타내었는데 특히 태도와 기능 사이에는 4학년 r=.7166, 5학년 r=.5175, 6학년 r=.6796을 나타내었고 지시과 태도(4학년 r=.1546, 5학년 r=.0872, 6학년 r=.2192)와 지식과 기능사이에서는 (4학년 r=.1631, 5학년 r=.0585, 6학년 r=.2521)태도와 기능간보다 약한 상관관계를 보였다.

  • Background : Medical records are documents in files which consist of all diagnostic studies and medical treatments patients had received while they were hospitalized or treated as outpatients. A doctor or medical team can use medical records as a data for diagnosis, treatment, and education. In traditional eastern asian medicine, medical reports have different forms and contents. The most important thing in medical reports of traditional eastern asian medicine was how to express practitioner's medical ideas. So it has a weak point, for example, it has poor information about patient and clinical process, which make some trouble to understand it. Methods and Results : We studied medical records in Gyojubuin-yangbang, a commentary book of Chen-zi-ming's Obstetrics and Gynecology textbook done by Xue-ji in Ming dynasty, China. This book consists of 10 parts; treatment of menstruation disorders and leukorrhea, general gynecology, treatment of infertility, education for fetus, diagnosis of fetus and gravida, treatment of general and obstetrical disease in gravida, care for delivery, postpartum care and treatment, and treatment of mass and inflammation. It has 546 medical records about women's disease that commonly believed as Xue-ji's case reports. They are all review articles and made during about 23 years from A.D 1523 to 1546. Most patients of Xue-ji's case reports were common people, this fact is different from that of case reports in Chen-zi-ming's Obstetrics and Gynecology textbook. Conclusion : Xue-ji was a very famous Ob&Gy doctor who was from Suzhou Jingsu province in China. He was born in A.D 1468, died in A.D 1588. He emphasize emotional factors in pathology and to tonify spleen and kidney. We think Xue-ji's medical records are good references for us to treat psychosomatic Ob&Gy disease and chronic women's disease.

Monitoring of Sulfur Dioxide Residues in Commercial Herbal Medicines at Domestic by Geographical Origins (원산지별 국내 유통 한약재의 이산화황 잔류실태 조사)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the residual sulfur dioxide residues ($SO_2$) in commercial medicinal herbs in Korea in 2013. Among a total of 116 samples of 11 different kinds of herbs, 71 samples (11 Kinds) were domestic, and 45 samples (10 Kinds) were imported. The residual contents of $SO_2$ in the samples were determinated by a modified Monier-Williams method. Of the 116 samples, 6 samples (5.2%, 4 Kinds) failed to meet the regulations for sulfur dioxide residues of KFDA in medicinal herbs. Among 6 unsuitable samples, 1 samples (1.4%) were domestic, and 5 samples (11.1%, 3 Kinds) were imported. The highest amount of sulfur dioxide residues was 1546.3 mg/kg (Lycii Fructus) in the domestic samples. Regardless of region, $SO_2$ contents were not found at Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Citri Unshius Pericarpium, Eucommiae Cortex, Forsythiae Fructus, Gardeniae Fructus, Leonuri Herba and Lonicerae Folium et caulis. These data will be used as a basic data for the future legislation on the regulation and control of sulfur dioxide of herbal medicines.

Overall Prevalence and Distribution of Knockdown Resistance (kdr) Mutations in Aedes aegypti from Mandalay Region, Myanmar

  • Knockdown resistance (kdr) mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) of mosquitoes confer resistance to insecticides. Although insecticide resistance has been suspected to be widespread in the natural population of Aedes aegypti in Myanmar, only limited information is currently available. The overall prevalence and distribution of kdr mutations was analyzed in Ae. aegypti from Mandalay areas, Myanmar. Sequence analysis of the VGSC in Ae. aegypti from Myanmar revealed amino acid mutations at 13 and 11 positions in domains II and III of VGSC, respectively. High frequencies of S989P (68.6%), V1016G (73.5%), and F1534C (40.1%) were found in domains II and III. T1520I was also found, but the frequency was low (8.1%). The frequency of S989P/V1016G was high (55.0%), and the frequencies of V1016G/F1534C and S989P/V1016G/F1534C were also high at 30.1% and 23.5%, respectively. Novel mutations in domain II (L963Q, M976I, V977A, M994T, L995F, V996M/A, D998N, V999A, N1013D, and F1020S) and domain III (K1514R, Y1523H, V1529A, F1534L, F1537S, V1546A, F1551S, G1581D, and K1584R) were also identified. These results collectively suggest that high frequencies of kdr mutations were identified in Myanmar Ae. aegypti, indicating a high level of insecticide resistance.

Type of Oil and Effect of Required HLB on Nanoemulsion Formation (오일의 종류 및 required HLB가 나노에멀젼 형성에 미치는 영향)

  • Nanoemulsion is an emulsion with a particle size of about 20 ~ 200 nm and has the advantage of having a transparent or translucent appearance and improving the skin permeability of an effective material with a small particle size, so it is applied in various fields. In this study, eight oils with different types of HLB and 16 oils with different types of required HLB were selected to investigate the effect of the required HLB and the type on the formation of nanoemulsion. The surfactants used at this time were Polysorbate 60 (HLB 14.9), Sorbitan state (HLB 4.7), PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil (HLB 14.0), which were mixed with Polysorbate 60 and Sorbitan state, fixed with HLB 14.0, and Polysorbate 60 and PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, respectively. The formation of nanoemulsion was different depending on the type of oil, and oil with an ester structure showed a relatively excellent nanoemulsion formation ability. In particular, it was confirmed that a stable nanoemulsion was formed without a significant change after Cetyl ethylhexanoin was produced in a small size of 40 nm or less on average. In addition, it was found that using a mixture of Polysorbate 60 and Sorbitan stearate has a superior nanoemulsion formation ability than using PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil or Polysorbate 60 alone.

  • 양자점은 전자와 양공을 3차원으로 속박 시키므로 기존의 bulk나 양자우물보다 양자점을 이용한 레이저 다이오드의 경우 낮은 문턱 전류, 높은 미분이득 및 온도 안전성의 장점이 있을 거라 기대되고 있다. 그러나, 양자점은 낮은 areal coverage 때문에 높은 속박효율을 얻지 못하고 있다. 이러한 양자점의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 양자점을 양자우물 안에 성장시켜 운반자들의 포획을 향상시키는 방법들이 연구되고 있다. 양자우물 안에 양자점을 넣으면 양자우물이 운반자들의 포획을 증가 시키고, 열적 방출도 억제하여 온도 안정성이 향상 되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 광통신 대역의 1.3 ${\mu}m$ 경우, GaAs계를 이용하여 InAs 양자점을 strained InGaAs 박막을 우물층으로 한 dot-in-a-well 구조의 연구는 몇몇 보고된 바 있다. 그러나 InP계를 사용하는 1.55 ${\mu}m$ 대역에서 dot-in-a-well구조의 연구는 아직 미미하다. 본 연구에서는 유기 금속 화학 증착법(metal organic chemical vapor deposition)을 이용하여 InP 기판 위에 InAs 양자점을 자발성장법으로 성장하였으며 dot-in-a-well 구조에서 우물층으로 1.35 ${\mu}m$ 파장의 $In_{0.69}Ga_{0.31}As_{0.67}P_{0.33}$ (1.35Q)를, 장벽층으로는 1.1 ${\mu}m$ 파장의 $In_{0.85}Ga_{0.15}As_{0.32}P_{0.68}$(1.1Q)를 사용하였다. 양자우물층과 장벽층은 모두 InP 기판과 격자가 일치하는 조건으로 성장하였다. III족 원료로는 trimethylindium (TMI)와 trimethylgalium (TMGa)을 사용하였으며 V족 원료 가스로는 $PH_3$ 100%, $AsH_3$ 100%를, carrier gas로는 $H_2$를 사용하였다. InP buffer층의 성장 온도는 640$^{\circ}C$이며 양자점 성장 온도는 520$^{\circ}C$이다. 양자점 형성은 원자력간 현미경(Atomic force microscopy)를 이용하여 확인하였으며, 박막의 결정성은 쌍결정 회절분석(Double crystal x-ray deffractometry)를 이용하여 확인하였다. 확인된 성장 조건을 이용하여 양자점 시료를 성장하였으며 광여기분광법(Photoluminescence)을 이용하여 광특성을 분석하였다. Fig. 1은 dot in a barrier 와 dot-in-a-well 시료의 성장구조이다. Fig. 1(a)는 일반적인 dot-in-a-barrier 구조로 InP buffer층을 성장하고 1.1Q를 100 nm 성장한 후 양자점을 성장하였다. 그 후 1.1Q 100 nm와 InP 100 nm로 capping하였다. Fig. 1(b)는 dot-in-a-well 구조로 InP buffer층을 성장하고 1.1Q를 100 nm 성장 후 1.35Q 우물층을 4 nm 성장하였다. 그 위에 InAs 양자점을 성장하였다. 그 후에 1.35Q 우물층을 4 nm 성장하고 1.1Q 100 nm와 InP 100 nm로 capping하였다. Fig. 2는 dot-in-a-barrier 시료와 dot-in-a-well 시료의 상온 PL data이다. Dot-in-a-barrier 시료의 PL 파장은 1544 nm이며 반치폭은 79.70 meV이다. Dot-in-a-well 시료의 파장은 1546 nm이며 반치폭은 70.80 meV이다. 두 시료의 PL 파장 변화는 없으며, 반치폭은 dot-in-a-well 시료가 8.9 meV 감소하였다. Dot-in-a-well 시료의 PL peak 강도는 57% 증가하였으며 적분강도(integration intensity)는 45%가 증가하였다. PL 데이터에서 높은 에너지의 반치폭 변화는 없으며 낮은 에너지의 반치폭은 8 meV 감소하였다. 적분강도 증가에서 dot-in-a-well 구조가 dot-in-a-barrier 구조보다 전자-양공의 재결합이 증가한다는 것을 알 수 있으며, 반치폭 변화로부터 특히 높은 에너지를 갖는 작은 양자점에서의 재결합이 증가 된 것을 알 수 있다. 이는 양자우물이 장벽보다 전자-양공의 구속력을 증가시키기 때문에 양자점에 전자와 양공의 공급을 증가시키기 때문이다. 따라서 낮은 에너지를 가지는 양자점을 모두 채우고 높은 에너지를 가지는 양자점까지 채우게 되므로, 높은 에너지를 가지는 양자점에서의 전자-양공 재결합이 증가되었기 때문이다. 뿐만 아니라 파장 변화 없이 PL peak 강도와 적분강도가 증가하고 낮은 에너지 쪽의 반치폭이 감소한 것으로부터 에너지가 낮은 양자점보다는 에너지가 높은 양자점에서의 전자-양공 재결합율이 급증하였음을 알 수 있다. 우리는 이와 같은 연구에서 InP계를 이용해 1.55 ${\mu}m$에서도 dot in a well구조를 성장 하여 더 좋은 특성을 낼 수 있으며 앞으로 많은 연구가 필요할 것이라 생각한다.

Effects of Supplementation of Synbiotic Co-cultures Manufactured with Anaerobic Microbes on In Vitro Fermentation Characteristics and In Situ Degradability of Fermented TMR (혐기성 미생물로 제조한 synbiotics 혼합배양물의 첨가가 발효 TMR의 발효특성과 소실률에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to estimate the in vitro fermentation characteristics and in situ degradabilities of total mixed rations fermented by the synbiotic co-cultures composed of various anaerobic microorganisms in the rumen of cow. Seventy two TMR bags (4 treatments $\times$ 6 fermentation days $\times$ 3 replications) were manufactured for in vitro and in situ experiments. The experiment was composed of four treatments including the control, the mould and bacteria synbiotics (T1), the mould and yeast synbiotics (T2) and the bacteria and yeast synbiotics (T3). Each treatment had six fermentation days (1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21 day) with three replications. Two rumen cannulated Holstein cows (550 ㎏ of mean body wt) were used for in situ trial, and a total of 96 nylon bags were retrieved from the rumen according to eight fermentation times (1, 3, 6, 9, 18, 24, 48 and 72 hr). The mean fermentation temperatures of TMRs by supplementation of anaerobic micoorganism co-cultures ranged from $22.97^{\circ}C$ to $26.07^{\circ}C$, and tended to increase steadily during the entire period. pH values of the F-TMRs ranged from 4.39 to 4.98 and tended to decrease with the extension of the fermentation period, and decreased by supplementation of synbiotics (p<0.05). The ammonia concentrations of F-TMRs were not affected by addition of synbiotic co-cultures during the early fermentation period (within 7 days), but was lowest (p<0.05) in T3 during the late fermentation periods (after 14 days). Lactic acid concentration of F-TMR was lowest in T3 at 1 day of fermentation, but was not different from treatments in the other fermentation days. Microbial growth rates of F-TMR reached a peak at 7 days of fermentation, and afterward tended to decrease. In in situ experiment, the DM disappearance rates were higher in T1 than the control during early fermentation times (within 3 hours), but was vice versa at 48 hours of fermentation (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in effective DM degradability among treatments. NDF and ADF disappearance rates in situ were similar to those of DM. From the above results, the supplementation of synbiotics, particularly the mould and bacteria synbiotics, resulted in improving the pH and concentration of lactic acid of F-TMR as parameters of fermentation compare to the control, and also had higher in situ disappearance rates of DM, NDF and ADF than the control at early fermentation time. However, effective DM degradability was not affected by supplementation of synbiotics.
