Modification of Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes (HFMs) characteristics and performance were investigated via post treatment using different oxidants. sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and potassium persulfate (KPS). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) results revealed no structural differences after post treatment. Cross-sectional micrographs show finger-like structures at the outer and inner walls of the HFMs and sponge-like structures in middle, where NaOCl and KPS post treated fibers exhibited a decrease in finger-like structures in addition to aggregates appearing on the surface, consequently leading to an increase in the surface roughness (Ra) from 48 nm to 52.8nm and 56 nm, respectively. Hydrogen peroxide post treatment only was observed to decrease the water contact angle from 98° to 81.4°. It was also observed that the elongation at break and the modulus deceased after NaOCl post treatment from 34.5 to 28.5% and from 19.3 Mpa to 16.6 Mpa, respectively. Moreover, pure water flux after H2O2 post treatment increased from 87.8 LMH/bar to 113 LMH/bar at 0.45 bar, while no changes were detected for the methylene blue dye rejection (74%) between raw and hydrogen peroxide post treated fibers at the same pressure. According to the findings hydrogen peroxide post treated PVDF HFMs have the most uniform surfaces, with almost no alterations in structural and mechanical properties or porosities with enhanced hydrophilicity and pure water flux maintaining appropriate rejection. Therefore, it is considered an efficient surface modifying agent for UF/NF membranes or low-pressure separators.
This study was performed to evaluate internal bleaching effect of various bleaching agent on discolored nonvital teeth. 40 Human teeth were intentionally discolored with erythrocytes of human blood and randomly divided into 4 groups: 10% carbamide peroxide gel (Opalescence, Ultradent, U.S.A.); 15% carbamide peroxide gel; sodium perborate (Duksan pure chemical Co., Korea) with distilled water; sodium perborate with 30% hydrogen peroxide (Duksan pure chemical Co., Korea).(omitted)

Oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen intermediates (ROIs) has been implicated in a variety of human diseases including cancer, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and neurodegenerative disorders. Hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), a representative ROI which is produced during the cellular redox process, can cause cell death via apoptosis and/or necrosis depending on its concentrations. l5-Deoxy-$D^{12, 14}$ prostaglandin $J_2$ (15d-$PGJ_2$), a dehydration product of prostaglandin $D_2$, has been reportd to possess a number of biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidative properties. Currently, teeth whitening method which is applicable to dental surgery is that physician expertises give medical treatment to teeth directly dealed with a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. If hydrogen peroxide concentration is too high for treatment of maximized teeth whitening effect [1], it is harmful to the human body [2]. To the maximum effective and no harmful teeth whitening effect in a short period of time at home, we have observed the whitening effect using carbamide peroxide (15%) and a low-temperature atmospheric pressure plasma jet which is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. The gas supplied conditions of the non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma jet was with the humidified (0.6%) gas in nitrogen or air at gas flow rate of 1000 sccm. Also, the measurement of chemical species from the jet was carried out using the optical emission spectroscopy (OES), the evidence of increased reactive oxygen species compared to non-humidified plasma jet. We have found that the whitening effect of the plasma is very excellent through this experiment, when bovine teeth are treated in carbamide peroxide (15%) and water vapor (0.2 to 1%). The brightness of whitening teeth was increased up to 2 times longer in the CIE chromaticity coordinates. The colorimetric spectrometer (CM-3500d) can measure color degree of whitening effect.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is one of the main pathological factors in endothelial disorder. For example, an atherosclerosis is induced by the dysfunction of vascular endothelial cells. The dysfunction of vascular endothelial cells cascades to secrete intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-l substance by ROS. Therefore, The ROS is regraded as an important factor of the injury of vascular endothelial cells and inducement of atherosclerosis. Oxygen radical scavengers playa key role to prevention of many diseases mediated by oxidative stress of ROS. In this study, the toxic effect of ROS on vascular endothelial cells and the effect of antioxidant, vitamin E on bovine pulmonary vascular endothelial cell line (BPVEC) treated with hydrogen peroxide were examined by the colorimetric assay. ROS decreased remarkably cell viability according to the dose- and time-dependent manners. In protective effect of vitamin E on BPVEC treated with hydrogen peroxide, vitamin E increased remarkably cell viability compared with control after BPVEC were treated with $15{\mu}M$ hydrogen peroxide for 6 hours. From these results, it is suggested that ROS has cytotoxicity on cultured BPVEC and oxygen radical scavenger such as vitamin E is very effective in prevention of oxidative stress-induced cytotoxicity.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the partial oxidation of the biological treatment plant effluents using Fenton's reagent as a pretreatment step prior to a tertiary biological oxidation of these effluents. Fenton's reagent was evaluated as a pretreatment process for inhibitory or refractory organics. Based on the Fenton oxidation system, the petrochemical wastewater treatment plant effluent was shown to have significant improvement in toxicity after oxidation with hydrogen peroxide. For example, at ranee of 42 ∼ 184 mg/L COD of petrochemical plant effluents, the COD removal efficiencies were from 38.2% to 60.1% after reaction with hydrogen peroxide 200 mg/L and Fe2+ 100 mg/L and reaction time was 30 minutes. The total TOC reduction were about 15.8∼22.4% with same test condition and difference between the overall removal rate and BOD/COD ratio after Fenton's oxidation estabilished in the biodegradation and otherwise meets the discharge standard or reuse for cooling tower make-up water.

In this study, a nanocomposite of multi-walled carbon nanotubes@poly(p-phenylenediamine)-Prussian blue (MWCNTs@PpPD-PB) was synthesized and employed for the electrochemical detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). A straightforward approach was utilized to prepare an electrochemical H2O2 sensor using a MWCNTs@PpPD-PB modified glassy carbon electrode, and its electrochemical behavior was investigated through techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and amperometry. The modified electrode displayed a favorable electrocatalytic response towards the reduction of H2O2 in an acidic solution. The developed sensor exhibited linearity in the concentration range of 0.005 mM to 2.225 mM for H2O2, with high sensitivity (583.6 ㎂ mM-1cm-2) and a low detection limit (0.95 ㎛, S/N = 3) at an applied potential of +0.15 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). Additionally, the sensor demonstrated excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. Moreover, successful detection of H2O2 was achieved in real samples.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bleaching effect of 3% hydrogen peroxide containing strip with primer in vivo. Methods : 22 female subjects aged from 20 to 39 years old were recruited after informed consent. They were divided into two groups with control and experimental group. Experimental group was bleached with 3% HP strip with primer, and control group received placebo for 14 days. Color changes were measured with Shade Eye-NCC (Shade Eye-NCC, SHOFU Co., Japan), Shade guide (VITA classical shade guide, $VIDENT^{TM}$, CA, USA) and digital camera image. All collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Results : At baseline, $L^*$ was $71.75{\pm}3.2$ and $b^*$ was $14.90{\pm}3.6$ in control, and $L^*$ was $71.3{\pm}3.4$ and $b^*$ was $15.61{\pm}3.7$ in experimental group. At day 14, $L^*$ was $71.35{\pm}3.2$ and $b^*$ was $13.97{\pm}4.3$ in control, and $L^*$ was $73.51{\pm}2.0$, $b^*$ was $9.10{\pm}3.0$ in experimental group. ${\Delta}E^*$ of all teeth were statistically significant between the two groups. Final ${\Delta}E^*$ was $7.15{\pm}2.09$ at experimental group and $2.78{\pm}2.93$ at control group, and the difference was significant (p<0.005). Color changes using shade guide also significantly decreased at 14th day compared with baseline at experimental group (p<0.005). Conclusions : 3% hydrogen peroxide strip with primer revealed effective enough to bleaching the human enamel during 14 days without any soft and hard tissue irritations.
