When the structures are exposed to their own an application for a long period, a number of variables such as strength properties and corrosion resistance, so on are expected to change. In the present investigation the corrosion behavior and resistance for the original and degraded materials of Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel were evaluated under the conditions of pH 3, 6, 9 and 12 in a distilled water environment. The electrochemical polarization technique was employed in this investigation. Based upon the experimental results obtained, the following conclusions were drawn. A severe and uniform corrosion was observed for both original and degraded materials under the condition of pH 3. At pH 6 and pH 9, these materials showed the degradation by a pitting corrosion. The materials under pH 12 environment were degraded by a uniform corrosion. The corrosion rate per year were the highest in the pH 3 environment, followed by pH 12, pH 6 and pH 9 environment in order. The corrosion resistance was decreased from the original material, slow cooled material (10.deg. C/hr) and step cooled material in order.

Martensitic stainless steels containing 12%Cr are commonly used in quenched and tempered conditions. The quenching heat treatment involves annealing to obtain austenite and to dissolve the carbides , followed by cooling to transform the austenite into martensite and often to cause carbide predipitation. In this study, we used three different tempered specimens which were temperated at 30$0^{\circ}C$, 67$0^{\circ}C$ and 75$0^{\circ}C$ . The crack propagation and fracture toughness tests were performed on this three different specimens. The experimental results showed that the highest value of crack growth rate and the lowest value of fracture toughness were observed in the specimen which were temperated at $600^{\circ}C$, however, when the specimen were temperated at 75$0^{\circ}C$, the vale of crack growth rate was significantly decreased and the value of fracture toughness was significantly increased as compared to which were temperated at $600^{\circ}C$.

Studies were carried out to assess the microstructural and mechanical properties of ferriticmartensitic steel under a flowing sodium environment. HT9 (12Cr-MoVW) and Gr.92 (9Cr-MoVNbW) steel were exposed to liquid sodium at $650^{\circ}C$ containing dissolved oxygen of 20 ppm for 2333 hours and evaluations of the microstructure as well as the mechanical properties of the microhardness and nanoindentation were carried out. The result showed that both HT9 and Gr.92 exhibited macroscopic weight loss caused by general corrosion as well as localized types such as intergranular corrosion and pitting. Decarburization at the steel surface took place as the test proceeded. As the Cr content increased, dissolution and decarburization were suppressed. Assessment of the actual cladding geometry revealed that an aging process rather than decarburization governed the mechanical properties, which resulted in a decrease of the microhardness and yield stress.

This paper investigated the effect of the film deposition rate for $CrN_x$ microstructure and mechanical properties. For these purpose, pure Cr an stoichiometric CrN films were deposited with various target power density on Si hardened M2 tool steel. The variation of ni trogen concentration in $CrN_x$ f analyzed by AES and deposition rate was calculated by measuring of thickness using ${\alpha}-step$ profilometer. The microstructure was analyzed by X-Ray Diffract and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), and mechanical properties were evalua residual stress, microhardness and adhesion tests. Deposition rate of Cr and CrN increased as an almost linear function of target power density from $0.25\mu\textrm{m}/min$ and $0.15\mu\textrm{m}/min$ to $0.43\mu\textrm{m}/min$. Residual stresses of Cr and CrN films were from tensi Ie to compressive stress with an increase of deposi tion rate a compressive stresses were increased as more augmentation of deposition r maximum hardness value of $2300kg/\textrm{mm}^2$ and the best adhesion strength correspond HF 1 were obtained for CrN film synthesized at the highest target densitY($13.2W/\textrm{mm}^2$) owing to high residual compressive stress and increasing mobility.
The effects of Cr content and film formation potential on electronic behaviors of the passive film on Fe-Cr alloys were investigated in borate buffer solution. Influence of pH on passive films of both Fe-Cr and Fe-Cr-Mo alloys was also investigated. Mott-Schottky and cyclic voltammetry techniques were used to elucidate electronic behaviors of passive films and their electrochemical characteristics. AES analysis of passive films was carried out. Results showed that doping density decreased as Cr content and film formation potentials increased. The addition of Mo to Fe-Cr alloy had little influence on donor densities in pH 9.2 solution but some effects on the decrease in donor densities in pH 1.6 acidic solution.

The internal oxide scale of twelve superheater and reheater tubes were tested which were serviced for 30,000~120,000 hours in thermal power plants. The oxide scale was formed in three layers. The Cr-rich area was observed beneath the original metal surface. The hematite ($Fe_2O_3$) phase was formed on the outer surface. The intermediate layer was magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$). The thickness of Cr-rich layer was about half of the total scale. All layers grew during the operation hour of the plant. The thickness of thickest scale was 0.2mm in superheater tubes. This can increase the tube metal temperature about $7^{\circ}C$ more than initial state. $7^{\circ}C$ tube metal temperature can reduce tube life about 30%, but the boiler tube's design margin is big enough therefore it has been analyzed that it would not effect on the life span.

Laser cladding a surface treatment process that grants superior characteristics such as toughness, hardness, and corrosion resistance to the surface, and rebuilds cracked molds; as such, it can be a strong tool to prolong service life of mold steel. Furthermore, compared with the other similar coating processes - thermal spray, etc., laser cladding provides superior bonding strength and precision coating on a local area. In this study, surface characteristics are studied after laser cladding of low carbon steel using 18%Cr-2.5%Ni-Fe powder (Rockit404), known for its high hardness and excellent corrosion resistance. A diode laser with wavelength of 900-1070 nm is adopted as laser source under argon atmosphere; electrical power for the laser cladding process is 5, 6, and 10 kW. Fundamental surface characteristics such as crossectional microstructure and hardness profile are observed and measured, and special evaluation, such as a soldering test with molten ALDC12 alloy, is conducted to investigate the corrosion resistance characteristics. As a result of the die-soldering test by immersion of low carbon alloy steel in ALDC12 molten metal, the clad layer's soldering thickness decreases.
It has recently been raised main issue how solve the problem of insufficient energy. One of the solution is to increase the thermal efficiency of power generation system. For the purpose of high efficiency, it is necessary to increase the steam temperature and pressure. So, the use of modified $9{\sim}12%Cr$ steel having superior creep rupture strength and oxidation resistance is required to endure such severe environment. The evaluation of creep properties of those heat resistance material is very important to secure the reliability of high temperature and pressure structural components. Since creep properties are determined by microstructural change such as carbide precipitation and coarsening, It is certain that there are some relationship between creep properties and hardness affected by microstructure. In this study, SP-Creep ruptured test for newly developed 9Cr steel being used as boiler valve material was performed, and creep properties of the material were evaluated. Also, hardness test were performed and hardness results were related to the creep properties such as LMP and creep strength to verify the availability of SP-Creep test as creep test method.
This study investigates the microstructure and wear properties of cermet (ceramic + metal) coating materials manufactured using high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) process. Three types of HVOF coating layers are formed by depositing WC-12Co, WC-20Cr-7Ni, and Cr3C2-20NiCr (wt.%) powders on S45C steel substrate. The porosities of the coating layers are $1{\pm}0.5%$ for all three specimens. Microstructural analysis confirms the formation of second carbide phases of $W_2C$, $Co_6W_6C$, and $Cr_7C_3$ owing to decarburizing of WC phases on WC-based coating layers. In the case of WC-12Co coating, which has a high ratio of $W_2C$ phase with high brittleness, the interface property between the carbide and the metal binder slightly decreases. In the $Cr_3C_2-20CrNi$ coating layer, decarburizing almost does not occur, but fine cavities exist between the splats. The wear loss occurs in the descending order of $Cr_3C_2-20NiCr$, WC-12Co, and WC-20Cr-7Ni, where WC-20Cr-7Ni achieves the highest wear resistance property. It can be inferred that the ratio of the carbide and the binding properties between carbide-binder and binder-binder in a cermet coating material manufactured with HVOF as the primary factors determine the wear properties of the cermet coating material.
The wear corrosion behaviour of a nitrogen ion implanted super stainless steel (S.S.S, 22Cr - 20Ni - 6Mo - 0.25N) was compared with those of S.S.S, 316L SS and TiN coated 316L SS. The Cr and Ni amounts won out from the materials were investigated using an electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. We observed that the Cr dissolution rate of the S.S.S was similar to that of 316L SS, however, the Ni release of the S.S.S was feater than 316L SS. The metal ions released from the nitrogen ion implanted S.S.S surface were significantly reduced. The wear corrosion behaviour of the stainless steels was not correlated with the results shown by a static metal ion release test.
