In general, huge caissons for breakwaters have been constructed on land or a floating dock. In the case of the construction on a floating dock, a 4 step installation procedure is involved: i) construction on a floating dock, ii) transportation by the floating dock to an area near the target sea, iii) launching from the floating dock, and iv) transference by tug-boats to the installation site. It is especially important to pay attention to the dynamic stability of the floating dock against the conditions in the sea during steps i) and iii). In this paper, the static and dynamic stabilities of a caisson on a floating dock are evaluated based on IMO rules during the construction and launching of the caisson on a floating dock by using independent commercial S/Ws such as NAPA, WAMIT, and CHARM3D.

The assessment of maneuverability of a ship is very important from the view point of safety of human beings and of pollution of ocean. And, it is quite natural that every ship yard wants to have some tools with which they can build a ship with good maneuverability. But, maneuvarability of a ship is very subtle problem, and to calculate the exact maneuvering motion, lots of captive model tests must be carried out. Futhermore, in the initial design stage we can not make the scale model, because the lines of a ship is not fixed. In this paper, some approximate method to calculate the maneuvering motion of a ship, with the principal dimensions of hull, and propeller, rudder characteristics only, is studied. And, proposed approximate method is used to calculate the turning and zig-zag maneuver of several ships. The results of those calculations and the usability of the method are discussed.
Logistics movement using ships has been used for many centuries, but maritime accidents are still difficult to predict and they occur on a large scale. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) made it mandatory to install Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) for safe seas, but S-57 standards applied to equipment were not updated over 30 years. In addition, it is difficult to keep the equipment up-to-date and revise standards as ships move around the world. In consideration of the limitations of S-57, the IHO developed the new standard as S-100 rather than an update of the S-57. In this study, the previously developed S-100 tool and S/W were configured as one platform and applied to the S-100 ECDIS. The platform conducts as the S-100 cycle and ecosystem from the creation of standards to release and practical use in ships. The hydrographic information standard is machine-readable as defined in S-100, and it has been validated that the latest standard can be applied using the Plug and Play (PnP) function without software system updates. It is expected that international organization such as the International Hydrographic Office (IHO) and the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) shall develop and release standards and mariners can easily apply the latest standards to equipment through the machine-readable platform.
The IMO has adopted emission standards that strictly restrict the use of bunker C oil for vessels. Accordingly, research and bunkering pilot projects for LNG fueled ships are being actively carried out, which is expected to substantially reduce environmental pollution. In this study, we have adopted the turret moored Floating LNG Bunkering Terminal (FLBT) designed to receive the LNG from LNGCs and to transfer LNG to LNG bunkering shuttles in ship to ship moored condition. Numerical simulations have been performed with a 1-year return period of wind, wave, and current. Damping values of numerical model were adjusted from the results of model tests to obtain accurate simulation results. The results confirm safe berthing operation during the 1-year return period of environmental condition. Safety depends on the direction of environment, with increasingly stable operation facilitated by the application of heading-control function of FLBT to avoid beam-sea conditions.
This study is aming at analysing the current trend of container shipping industry before and after COVID-19 Pandemic circumstances. Also, this study offers the political implications for 'the Korean Shipping Nation Rebuilding'. As a result of this study, the several global shipping lines have decreased their ship capacity in response to International Maritime Organization(IMO)'s environmental regulation. This finding is differ from the media reports, that is many shipping companies increased idling vessel to match the lower demand induced COVID-19 pandemic. This study also provides the two implications of the direction about Korean shipping policy. The first one is that the casual relationship of over-vessels' supply and Korea shipping policy is needed to be thoroughly analyzed. The importance of Koreans shipping industry is generally devaluated by most citizens so as to the Korean government should develop the mass media contents to enlighten the less wellknown people regarding shipping industry.

Since 2020, according to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) amended in 2016, each Administration shall transfer the annual fuel consumption of its registered ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) after verifying them. The Administration needs stacks of materials, which must not be manipulated by ship companies, including the Engine log book and also bears an administrative burden to verify them by May every year. This study considers using the Automatic Identification System (AIS), mandatory navigational equipment, as an objective and efficient tool among several verification methods. Calculating fuel consumption using a ship's speed in AIS information based on the theory of a relationship between ship speed and fuel consumption was reported in several examples of relevant literature. After pre-filtering by excluding AIS records which had speed errors from the raw data of five domestic cargo vessels, fuel consumptions calculated using Excel software were compared to actual bunker consumptions presented by ship companies. The former consumptions ranged from 96 to 123 percent of the actual bunker consumptions. The difference between two consumptions could be narrowed to within 20 percent if the fuel consumptions for boilers were deducted from the actual bunker consumption. Although further study should be carried out for more accurate calculation methods depending on the burning efficiency of the engine, the propulsion efficiency of the ship, displacement and sea conditions, this method of calculating annual fuel consumption according to the difference between two consumptions is considered to be one of the most useful tools to verify bunker consumption.

The International Maritime Organization has developed the Energy Efficiency Design Index, an index related to carbon dioxide emissions, to enforce regulations on newly built ships. In this study, a new type of energy-saving device called the ring stator was used for 158k crude oil carriers, whose hull form was developed as a very thin after-body hull to reduce the resistance by delaying separation. The Energy-Saving Device (ESD) particularly involving the duct, is not adapted to the thin-after body hull form-like container ship. This new ring stator was developed considering these characteristics. A parametric study was conducted through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis using the Star-CCM+ program, and approximately 3.4 % improvement in propulsion efficiency was achieved. Further optimization investigations and experimental studies should be conducted in the future.

The maneuvering performance of a ship on the actual sea is very different from that in calm water due to wave-induced motion. Enhancement of a ship's maneuverability in waves at the design stage is an important way to ensure that the ship navigates safely. This paper focuses on the maneuvering prediction of a Russian trawler in wind and irregular waves. First, a unified seakeeping and maneuvering analysis of a Russian trawler is proposed. The hydrodynamic forces acting on the hull in calm water were estimated using empirical formulas based on a database containing information on several fishing vessels. A simulation of the standard maneuvering of the Russian trawler was conducted in calm water, which was checked using the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards for ship maneuvering. Second, a unified model of seakeeping and maneuvering that considers the effect of wind and waves is proposed. The wave forces were estimated by a three-dimensional (3D) panel program (ANSYS-AQWA) and used as a database when simulating the ship maneuvering in wind and irregular waves. The wind forces and moments acting on the Russian trawler are estimated using empirical formulas based on a database of wind-tunnel test results. Third, standard maneuvering of a Russian trawler was conducted in various directions under wind and irregular wave conditions. Finally, the influence of wind and wave directions on the drifting distance and drifting angle of the ship as it turns in a circle was found. North wind has a dominant influence on the turning trajectory of the trawler.

Water pollution is drastically increasing day by day, because of the enhancement in use of livestock, urban sewage detergents and fertilizers. Moreover increase in concentration of phosphorous and nitrogen contained in sewage, leads to green tide problem in the rivers and causes marine pollution. For this problem to solve, several technologies are being researched and developed. Among them, this experiment is a study on Bench-scale STP based on internationally certified sewage treatment equipment by MEPC. 227(64) of IMO. The purpose of this study is to compare the biological treatment efficiency of phosphorus of Bench-scale STP. The ratio of C : N : P was set to 10 : 5 : 3 and 10 : 3 : 1 as the operating conditions. And the operation cycle was set to anoxic(mixed) 70 min - aeration 50 min (70-50), anoxic(mixed) 90 min - aeration 60 min (90-60). As a result, the phosphorous treatment efficiency was 88% at average, and the treatment efficiency was steady at 90-60 better than 70-50. The efficiency of the bench-scale STP has been verified through this experiment and additional experiments are required to derive the optimal operating conditions.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set a goal of reducing ship's carbon dioxide emissions by 70% and greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050 compared to 2008. Shipowners and shipyards are promoting various R&D activities such as LNG propulsion, ammonia propulsion, electric propulsion, CO2 capture, and shaft generators as a way to satisfy this problem. The dual shaft generator has the advantage that it can be directly applied to an existing ship through remodeling. In this paper, the total fuel reduction rate that can be obtained by applying the shaft generator to the existing ship was verified through simulation. For this purpose, the size of the medium-sized ship was defined, and the governor, diesel engine, propeller, torque switch, generator for shaft generator, propulsion motor for shaft generator, and ship model were modeled and simulated.
