By estimating conditional quantile functions of the response, quantile regression (QR) can provide comprehensive information of the relationship between the response and the predictors. In addition, kernel quantile regression (KQR) estimates a nonlinear conditional quantile function in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces generated by a positive definite kernel function. However, it is infeasible to use the KQR in analysing a massive data due to the limitations of computer primary memory. We propose a divide and conquer based KQR (DC-KQR) method to overcome such a limitation. The proposed DC-KQR divides the entire data into a few subsets, then applies the KQR onto each subsets and derives a final estimator by aggregating all results from subsets. Simulation studies are presented to demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the proposed method.
Optical coherence elastography (OCE) is based on optical coherence tomography (OCT), which is a noninvasive, high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging technique. In this paper, we have developed dynamic optical coherence elastography to measure elasticity, a mechanical property of tissue, by phase difference. A piezoelectric actuator was used for sinusoidal mechanical loading of samples. Before applying this method to biomaterial, we assessed the feasibility of OCE with samples of sponge, eraser, and sharp lead. Cross-sectional and phase-difference images of the sample were obtained under sinusoidal loading. The strain rate was calculated from the phase-difference information. To obtain the envelope of the phase-difference oscillations along the horizontal direction, Hilbert transformation was performed at each depth. The elevation of the envelope was represented by color mapping, and we could measure the relative elasticity within the sample by comparing the elevations. Finally, there was an advantage when we calculated the shear rate using self-interference in the sample arm, instead of the interference between sample and reference arms.

To reduce the area and power consumption in constant coefficient multiplications, the constant coefficient can be encoded using canonic signed digit(CSD) representation. When the partial product terms are added depending on the nonzero bit(1 or -1) positions in the CSD-encoded multiplier, all sign bits are properly extended before the addition takes place. In this paper, to reduce the overhead due to sign extension, a new method is proposed based on the fact that carry propagation in the sign extension part can be controlled such that a desired input bit can be propagated as a carry. Also, a fixed-width multiplier design method suitable for CSD multiplication is proposed. As an application, 43-tap filbert transformer for SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA is implemented. It is shown that, about 16∼28% adders can be saved by the proposed method compared with the conventional methods.

As a society has progressed rapidly toward a highly advanced digital information age, a multimedia communication service for acquisition, transmission and storage of image data as well as voice has being commercialized externally and internally. However, in the process of digitalization or transmission of data, noise is generated by several causes, and researches for eliminating those noises have been continued until now. There were the existing FFT(fast fourier transform) and STFT(short time fourier transform) for removing noise but it's impossible to know information about time and time-frequency localization capabilities has conflictive relationship. Therefore, for overcoming these limits, wavelet transform which is presented as a new technique of signal processing field is being applied in many fields recently. Because it has time-frequency localization capabilities it's Possible for multiresolution analysis as well as easy to analyze various signal. And when two wavelet base were designed to form Hilbert transform pair, wavelet pair provide superior performance than the existing DWT(discrete wavelet transform) in data characteristic detection. Therefore in this parer, we removed impulse noise by using adaptive-length median filter and two dyadic wavelet base which is designed by truncated coefficient vector.
Recently, studies of 3D HDTV broadcasting technology have been processed actively. Korea is making efforts to modify Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 8-Vestigial Side Band (8-VSB) systems for terrestrial 3D HDTV broadcasting services. We intend to adopt a new frame structure to use PN (Pseudo-Noise) sequence as frame header, and VSB modulation. PN sequence is used to recover carrier freqeuncy offset, carrier phase error. In this paper, we will describe this system as the modified ATSC systems. The receiver of the modified ATSC system should be able to estimate and recover carrier frequency offset exactly. A existing ATSC systems inserts pilot to recover carrier frequency offset, on the other hand the modified ATSC systems use PN sequence to recovery carrier frequency offset without the use of pilot. In this paper, we introduce carrier frequency recovery (CFR) scheme for the modified ATSC systems. The proposed CFR scheme is composed of coarse CFR scheme using Fitz algorithm and fine CFR scheme using a simple PN sequence correlation algorithm. And, the symbol information of QAM modulated signal is contained in both In-phase (I)channel and Quadrature-phase (Q)channel. However the symbol information of VSB modulated signal is contained in I channel, and Q channel is just Hilbert transform of I channel. For the reason, VSB modulated symbols can not have fixed phase like QAM modulated symbols, and VSB modulated symbols is more sensitive to carrier frequency offset. Therefore we perform phase correction of received PN sequence to improve performance.

The analysis of phase synchronization characteristics from EEG signals is important for the understanding of information processing functionality in the brain network. In this paper, wavelet transformation(WT), Hilbert tansformation (HT), complex demodulation (CD) methods having time localization characteristics were applied to real evoked potential data and noise added simulation data with center frequencies corresponding to EEG bands for the estimation performance analysis of phase offset, phase changing point, and interband crosstalk. The WT is the best both in ${\delta}$, ${\theta}$, and ${\alpha}$ band signal decomposition, and in analyzing phase synchronization performance. The CD can be efficiently used in changing point detection under tolerant noise condition because of its abrupt performance degradation over noise endurance level. From experimental observations, the WT is the most suitable in phase synchronization application of EEG signal, and the CD can be affordable in restricted application such as changing point detection for higher bands than ${\delta}$. Particularly, WT and CD can be used to detect the changing instant of brain function by indirectly estimating the phase changing point.
The recent development of the technology for wireless mobile computing and applied technology for location-based services has made it possible to support query processing faster than that in the past. However, some technological limitations on hardware and software still exist. The most critical aspects of query processing are accuracy and speed. For improving the accuracy, it is required that detailed information on the data involved in query processing be saved. In this case, the amount of information on the data increases, which decreases the speed. On the other hand, for increasing the speed, it is necessary to reduce the broadcast cycle, which enables rapid data acquisition as desired. In this case, because of insufficient index information, the listen time for the client increases, which may cause unnecessary energy consumption. Therefore, a trade-off occurs between the accuracy and speed. This paper proposes a hierarchical bitmap-based spatial index (HBI) as a solution for the aforementioned problems. HBI describes an object with 0 and 1 on the Hilbert curve map. It reduces the broadcast cycle by decreasing the index size on the basis of bit information and tree structure. Therefore, it is able to shorten the listen time and query processing time. In addition, HBI enables the detection of the locations of all the objects so that it is possible selectively listen to a broadcast. A performance evaluation of the proposed technique demonstrates that it is excellent.

This paper proposes a systematic methodology that could be used to decide which one shows the best performance among space filling curves (SFCs) in applying lower-dimensional transformations to histogram sequences. A histogram sequence represents a time-series converted from an image by the given SFC. Due to the high-dimensionality nature, histogram sequences are very difficult to be stored and searched in their original form. To solve this problem, we generally use lower-dimensional transformations, which produce lower bounds among high dimensional sequences, but the tightness of those lower-bounds is highly affected by the types of SFC. In this paper, we attack a challenging problem of evaluating which SFC shows the better performance when we apply the lower-dimensional transformation to histogram sequences. For this, we first present a concept of spatial locality, which comes from an intuition of "if the entries are adjacent in a histogram sequence, their corresponding cells should also be adjacent in its original image." We also propose spatial locality preservation metric (slpm in short) that quantitatively evaluates spatial locality and present its formal computation method. We then evaluate five SFCs from the perspective of slpm and verify that this evaluation result concurs with the performance evaluation of lower-dimensional transformations in real image matching. Finally, we perform k-NN (k-nearest neighbors) search based on lower-dimensional transformations and validate accuracy of the proposed slpm by providing that the Hilbert-order with the highest slpm also shows the best performance in k-NN search.
