H$_2$SO$_4$ and citric acid were used as additives for the electrokinetic remediation experiment to increase removal efficiency of $^{137}$ Cs and $^{60}$ Co from the radioactive soil waste stored for more than 10 years. The average effluent velocity discharged from the elctrokinectic remediation experimental column was 2.0${\times}$10$^{-2}$ cm/min and the discharged soil wastewater volume for 10 days is 3.6 pore volume of the column. 97% of $^{60}$ Co in the column was decontaminated for 10 days of operation, while only 54% of $^{137}$ Cs was decontaminated. These results are considered that the absorption equilibrium coefficient of $^{137}$ Cs is higher than that of $^{60}$ Co. The predicted values of the residual concentration by the proposed mathematical model were well coincided with the experimental results within the experimental error range
Various crosslinked poly(4-vinylpyridines) (CHP4VP) having different degrees of crosslinking were synthesized by radical copolymerization of 4-vinylpyridine with if N,N' -1, 6-hexamethylenebisacrylamide, and CHP4VP- Cu(II) complexes were prepared by the method of adsorption equilibrium. The catalytic activity of the complexes for the oxidation of ascorbic acid (AA) was investigated. The oxidation of AA by these complexes showed a kinetic behavior of the Michaelis-Menten type. The catalytic activity of CHP4VP-Cu(I ) catalytic system was increased with increasing the degree of crosslinking of CHP4VP, and its activity was scarcely decreased even after repeated use. However, the tendency of the catalytic activity of CHP4VP-Cu(II) complexes was decreased for the oxidation of AA when compared with that of the previously reported catalytic system containing crosslinked poly(4-vinylpyridine) prepared using N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker. These results indicate that the degree of crosslinking of CHP4VP and the hydrophobicity of the crosslinker play an important role in the catalytic system of the oxidation of AA.

Fractional compositions and leaching potentials of Cd, Cu and Zn were investigated in the soils which had been disposed with the metal processing wastes, tungsten mine tailings and low quality coal mine area. Total concentrations of metals in these soils were higher than in non-polluted paddy and upland soils. Fractions of Cd, Cu and Zn were mostly reducible, organic and residual forms, but varied with origins of wastes. Residual fraction was a predominant form in the nonpolluted soils. Leaching potentials of metals were higher in polluted soils than in non-polluted soils. Metals leached were higher at pH 4.0 than 7.0 and increased with the duration time. After 25 to 35 hrs, metals released from soils reached a pseudoequilibrium. Leaching potential of metals in non-polluted soils was low due to high percentage of residual fractions.
The correlation between the bitter taste and the surface tension was found for bitter tasting, aqueous solutions. By the Szyszkowski's equation, the surface tension (STR) and taste curves (JND) were derived more clearly using the Techplot program. The specific capillary activity (log b values) for bitter tasting solutions are negatively correlated to the recognition threshold. It was shown that a more bitter substances has greater capillary activity. The correlation between the recognition threshold $(log\;C_{1})$ and the substance specific constant (a and b values) of sensory (JND) and surface tension values indicates good agreement. This means that the model of surface area adsorption in the solution/air system can apply also for the sensory model microvillus membrane in the mouth.

SMB (simulated moving bed) is a continuous chromatographic process by shifting periodically port position. Binary of mixture, Blue dextran and Orange G, was separated by SMB. These components have unique color individually, that is, Blue dextran is blue and Orange G is orange. It is easy to understand SMB process by observing the shift of color changes in SMB. These components was not adsorbed to stationary phase and isolated by difference of size exclusion factor. Mass transfer coefficient was determined by single pulse test under several flow rate conditions. Operation condition was obtained by standing wave theory and optimized for high purities in extract and raffinate streams. Experiment was performed in open loop 4 zone (2-2-2-2) SMB. There are several advantages in open loop SMB, where extract is product for high purity. It is also easy to control flow rate and monitor experimental state during operation. Experimental, extract and raffinate history is well fitted with simulation results, however, column concentration profile is a little different from simulation results. Purities were 99.5% for extract and 98.9% for raffinate and extract and raffinate yields were obtained as 98.9% and 99.4% respectively.
The physical properties of freeze-dried Aloe vera gel powders were examined according to the influence of the concentration degrees of the gel solutions as raw materials during freeze-drying. As a pre-treatment prior to freeze-drying, the gel solutions were vacuum-concentrated at three concentration levels (g water/g solids): high (H), 76; medium (M), 119; and low (L), 159. The water contents of the three powder samples were almost the same. For their viscosity measurements, non-Newtonian fluid behavior with shear thinning was observed in samples H and M, whereas Newtonian liquid behavior was found in sample L. In electrical conductivity measurements, sample H showed the highest conductivity upon dissolving the powder in water. For their water sorption isotherms, sample H was analyzed to have the least amount of bound water. Finally, it was determined that the degree of concentration caused only slight differences in the physical properties of freeze-dried Aloe gel powders.

The methods to separate and remove copper in the mixed solution ((399 ppm Cu, 208 ppm Fe, 15.3 g/L Ni, 2.1 g/L Co) with nickel, cobalt and iron were investigated. With hydroxide precipitation method, copper and iron ions were completely precipitated and removed from the solution at pH 7 while some nickel and cobalt also were precipitated. 99.75% copper could be precipitated and removed as copper sulfide from the solution with adding $Na_2S$ (1.25 w/v concentration) of 2 times equivalent of Cu at pH 1. Copper was selectively absorbed on TP 207 ion exchange resin at equilibrium pH 2.0 and could be eluted from copper-loaded resin using 5% $H_2SO_4$.

This research was designed to investigate the mathematical model and kinetics of phenol desorption from spent activated carbon. elucidating the desorption characteristics of phenol in the case of using acetone. The Freundlich isotherm constant ($k_e$) is expressed as a function of temperature: $k_e(T)=0.1exp(797.297/T)$. The Freundlich isotherm constant(n) is a weak temperature function and is rarely affected by temperature below $50^{\circ}C$. whereas it is necessary to correct the n value with respect to temperature above $100^{\circ}C$ owing to significant deviation (~5%). Based on the assumption that the surface desorption reaction of phenol is rate limiting, the desorption model was developed. Desorption reaction constant($k_d$) was determined by means of fitting the theoretical results best to experimental ones. The Arrhenius relationships for $k_d$ was expressed by: $k_d(sec^{-1})=0.0479{\cdot}exp(-3037/T)$. The model was verified by comparing the experimental ones under different reaction conditions with the theoretical results determined by the previously estimated $k_d$. Since the difference between them is with 5%, it is expected that the desorption model of this research seems to be appropriate to explain the desorption of phenol from activated carbon by acetone. According to studies of the model. regeneration time and ratio was estimated as a function of temperature under present conditions as follows: (1) regeneration time : ${\tau}_{reg}(hr)=-0.08130T_c+8.4775$. (2) regeneration ratio : ${\eta}(%)=0.2210T_c+83.745$. The regeneration time at 15, 55, and $100^{\circ}C$. respectively. was 7, 4.2, and 0.35 hours, whereas the regeneration ratio was 87. 96. and 99%. respectively. Also. studies of the model would make it possible to determine the regeneration time and ratio under other specific conditions (temperature, applied acetone volume, amount of activated carbon, and initially adsorbed phenol amount).
In this paper, the effect of silane-treated silicas and epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) addition on adhesion properties of silicas-filled epoxy adhesives was examined. The silicas were treated by ${\gamma}$-methacryloxy propyltrimethoxy silane (MPS), ${\gamma}$-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane (GPS), and ${\gamma}$-mercapto propyl trimethoxy silane (MCPS). Surface and structural properties of the adhesives were determined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The t-peel strength of the adhesives was estimated using the universal testing machine (UTM). And, the equilibrium spreading pressure, surface free energy, and specific surface area were investigated by BET methods with $N_2$/77 K adsorption. As a result, the peel strength of the adhesives was increased in the presence of silane-treated silicas in the adhesives compared to that of untreated silicas. This result indicated that the silane coupling agent played an important role in improving the dispersion of silicas in epoxy adhesives. And, the adhesives treated by MCPS were superior to the others in adhesion.
