Gas Separations of Natural Zeolite by Chemical Treatments (화학처리에 의한 천연 Zeolite의 Gas 분리)

  • In the our country, especially in Yeongil and Wolsung area, abundant authigenic zeolites are found from the tuffaceous sediments and volcanic rocks of Miocene age showing wide variation in their mineralogy and abundance from horizon to horizon. The principal zeolite species identified are clinopti-lolite. mordenite. heulandite. ferrierite, and erionite. etc. Zeolite minerals are widely used in many countries in the following applications; (a) in air separation adsorption processes; (b)as desiccants; (c)in inorganic building materials; (d)in papermaking; (e)in fertilizers; (f)as soilconditioners-this application is based upon the ability of the zeolite to ion exchange with soil nutrients; (g)in the treatment of radioactive wastes; and (h)as adsorbents for toxic gases, etc. In the present paper, using natural zeolite mordenite treated with IN hydrochloric acid or IN sodium chloride solution as column packings, separation characteristics of argon, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane gases have been studied by gas chromatography. By the use of mordenite treated with hydrochloric acid solution, the tailing peak of methane showed from untreated mordenite was satisfactorily reduced, although it was difficult to separate it from carbon monoxide with a column activated at $300^{\circ}C$. Using a column activated at $350^{\circ}C$, methane could be separated from carbon monoxide easily but only carbon monoxide eluted as a bad defined peak. Mordenite treated with sodium chloride solution was generally similar to chromatograms obtained by using the untreated mordenite. Both the above chemical treatments of mordenite had little effect on the separations of argon and nitrogen. The separations and the HETP values obtained from natural zeolite mordenite treated with continuously hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride solutions were almost identical with those obtained with synthetic molecular sieve 5A zeolite. On the other hand, the efficiency of column was good in the range 20~3Oml/min of the carrier helium gas rate.

Effect of Pretreatments on the Drying Characteristics of Dried Vegetables (전처리 방법에 따른 채소류의 열풍건조특성)

  • In drying process, to minimize the quality degradation by improved drying process and pretreatment methods, carrots, cabbages and radishes were dried and rehydrated. Physico-chemical properties of product were analyzed to determine the optimum pretreatment method and drying models were applied to explain drying mechanisms. Microwave, steam and water were used prior to drying as blanching method. In consideration of physical properties, optimum treatment time was decided that microwave was 1 min, steam and water were each 10 min. Control, steam, water, microwave and osmotic dehydration were treated prior to drying as pretreatment individually, osmotic dehydration was lower than the other treatmemt in drying efficiency, but carotene content was higher than the others. The effect continued after rehydration. Ten panelists tested dried and rehydrated carrots. After rehydration, the quality of air dried product with osmotic dehydration was superior to freeze dried without treatment. The fittness of drying models were conducted in order to explain the mechanism of drying each process. Quadratic model was most fittable to explain during drying. However, in rehydration process, no fittable model was found.

Evaluation of Physical Properties of Korean Pine (Pinus koraiensis Siebold & Zucc.) Lumber Heat-Treated by Superheated Steam (과열증기 열처리 잣나무재의 물성 평가)

  • In this study, the method for heat treating wood using superheated steam (SHS) was designed and applied. The physical and mechanical properties of Korean Pine (Pinus koraiensis Siebold & Zucc.) lumber heat-treated by SHS at $170^{\circ}C$ and 0.4 MPa for 10 hours were compared with those of non-treated and normal heat-treated wood. The amount of adsorbed water and equilibrium moisture content of the SHS treated wood were lower than non-treated wood. On the other hand the compressive strength parallel to grain and the bending strength of SHS treated wood were higher than those of non-treated wood. The hygroscopicity of SHS treated wood was similar to normal heat treated wood at $220^{\circ}C$. Internal checks that often occur during normal heat treatment were not developed at SHS treatment. Also, SHS treatment are effective in control of internal checks occurrence and resin exudation.

A Study on the Evaluation and Improvement of Permeability in Radial and Tangential Section of Domestic Softwoods (국산 침엽수의 방사, 접선단면의 투습성 평가와 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to evaluate the vapor permeability of nine different species of domestic softwood and the vapor permeability evaluation through the production of small wall structures for the developing applications, utilizing the vapor permeability of wood. In addition, the permeability evaluation was attempted by means of the production of a small wall structure injected with a waste material, bottom ash, as a moisture absorbent for improving the permeability. Consequently, the results of the vapor permeability evaluation by means of Sd value are as follows: (1) It was observed that Abies holiphylla, Picea jezoensis, Ginkgo biloba, Pinus koraiensis and Pinus rigida are permeable to moisture among 9 species of domestic softwood in Korea. (2) By means of this, semi-permeability efficiency was evaluated when producing a small wall structure. (3) Besides, improved effects of permeability were evaluated when producing a small wall structure inserted with bottom ash. As a result, it was confirmed that the Sd value of Pinus koraiensis turned out to be 1.63, which is superior to other 8 tree species.

Characteristics of Soy Protein Isolate Films Plasticized by Mixtures of Crystalline and Aqueous Sorbitol or Glycerin (솔비톨 혼합물과 글리세린 가소제에 의한 분리 대두단백질 필름의 특성연구)

  • The effects of sorbitol mixture as plasticizers on moisture sorption property (MSP), water vapor permeability (WVP), color, tensile strength (TS), elongation at break (E), and total soluble matter (TSM) of soy protein isolate (SPI) films were investigated. Two different types of sorbitols, aqueous and crystalline, were added to film-forming solutions in various ratios of crystalline to aqueous (0:1, 0.25:0.75, 0.5:0.5, 0.75:0.25, or 1:0, based on weight). In addition, the characteristics of the SPI films plasticized by sorbitol mixtures and glycerin were compared with moisture sorption rate against time. Sorbitol-plasticized films had higher in TS, but lower in WVP and E than the glycerin-plasticized films. However the properties of SPI films did not differ appreciably by the type of sorbitol added to film-forming solutions. To explain the high solubility and low WVP of sorbitol-plasticized films, cumulative amounts of moisture content gained during adsorption and lost during desorption of films were compared between sorbitol and glycerin-plasticized films. The result suggest that use of sorbitol as a plasticizer for preparing SPI films improves moisture barrier properties of the films. However the high solubility of sorbitol-plasticized films needs to be reduced for improving the functionality of SPI films in potential packaging applications.

Influence of vegetable wax on the moisture strength development of inorganic binder (무기바인더의 내수강도 발현에 미치는 식물성 왁스의 영향)

  • An inorganic binder is eco-friendly because it can be cured at low temperatures and does not emit harmful gases. In addition, related research is progressing rapidly owing to the small defects in the core. On the other hand, inorganic binders based on silicates (SiO2-Na2O) have unique absorbent properties. This results in the absorption of moisture from the air and the weakening of the bonding force. In particular, the castings used in cast steel require high-strength properties because of the higher temperatures than aluminum castings. In this study, waxes containing ester groups were selected to improve the absorption of moisture of inorganic binders. The inorganic binder was characterized by X-ray fluorescence and thermogravimetric analysis-differential thermal analysis. The inorganic binder core strength was then evaluated. In the case of an inorganic binder containing wax, the water resistance increased to 216 N/㎠, confirming the up to 55% improvement in strength. Excellent casting characteristics were confirmed through steel castings.

  • 란타늄 산화물 ($La_2O_3$) 박막은 하프늄 산화물 ($HfO_2$) 박막보다 높은 유전 상수와 높은 밴드 오프셋으로 인해 dynamic random access memory(DRAM)에서 유전체 재료로써 연구되어 왔다. 그리고 Lanthanum이 도핑된 HfO2이 더 높은 유전 상수와 낮은 누설 전류 밀도를 갖는 다는 사실이 이전에 보고 된 바 있다. 본 연구에서 우리는 ALD를 이용하여, TiN 하부 전극 위에 $La_2O_3$의 위치를 달리하는 $La_2O_3/HfO_2$의 나노 층상조직 구조(두께 10 nm)를 금속 - 절연체 - 금속 (MIM) 구조로 제작 하였다. ALD는 좋은 comformality와 넓은 지역 균일성을 가지며, 원자수준의 두께를 조절할 수 있다는 장점을 갖고 있다. 또한, 다양한 화학 물질들을 이용한 복합적 계층구조를 만들 수 있는 점과 $HfO_2$$La_2O_3$ 계층의 수직 위치를 정확하게 조절할 수 있는 점으로 본 연구에 적합한 증착 방법이다. HfO2 속에 $La_2O_3$ 층을 깊이에 따라 삽입함으로써 $HfO_2$ 계층에 La 도핑의 효과와 더불어 TiN 하부 전극 위의 $La_2O_3$$HfO_2$의 차이점을 확인 하였다. $HfO_2$$250^{\circ}C$에서 TDMAH와 물을 사용하여, $La_2O_3$은 동일한 온도에서 $La(iPrCp)_3$와 물을 사용하여 제작되었다. 화학적 구성 및 binding 구조는 X선 광전자 분광법 (XPS)을 통해 분석하였다. 전기적 특성(유전 상수 및 누설 전류)은 Capacitance-Voltage (CV)와 Current-Voltage (IV) 측정으로 확인하였다. 결과적으로, $La_2O_3$ 또는 $HfO_2$을 한 종류만 사용한 절연층의 전기적 특성보다, $La_2O_3/HfO_2$의 나노 층상조직 구조가 더 나은 특성 (누설 전류 밀도 : $5.5{\times}10^{-7}\;A/cm^2$ @-1MV/cm, EOT : 14.6)을 갖는다는 것을 확인했고, 더불어 $La_2O_3$의 흡습 성질로 인한 화학 구조와 전기적 특성의 일부 차이를 확인하였다. 본 연구에서는 $HfO_2$ 속에 $La_2O_3$층이 TiN 하부 전극 바로 위에 위치할 때, 즉, 공기 중에 노출되지 않은 $La_2O_3/HfO_2$ 구조에서 가장 좋은 특성의 MIM capacitor를 얻을 수 있었다.

Stabilizing Properties of SiOF Film with Low Dielectric Constant by $N_2O$ Plasma Annealing ($N_2O$ 플라즈마 열처리에 의한 저유전율 SiOF 박막의 물성 안정화)

  • The stabilization of low dielectric constant SiOF films prepared by conventional PECVD using TEOS and $C_2F_6$ was evaluated by the $N_2O$-plasma post-deposition annealing. Properties of SiOF film became unstable when it was air-exposed or heat-treated. Water absorption of SiOF films was increased as F content was increased due to the for¬mation of F -Si- F bonds. Also F content of SiOF films decreased after heat treatment. $N_2O$-plasma post-deposition annealing was proved to be effective on stabilizing SiOF films. which was mainly due to the formation of thin SiON layer near the top surface of films. However. the value of dielectric constant was greatly increased again when $N_2O$-plasma post-deposition annealing was done for a long time. To stabilize the SiOF films without an increase of dielec¬tric constant by $N_2O$- plasma post-deposition annealing. the annealing time should be kept the minimum value. to which stabilizing effects against air environment and heat treatment were preserved.

Quality and Antioxidant Characteristics of Granule Tea Prepared with Sea Tangle (Laminaria japonica) and Sea Mustard (Undaria pinnatifida) Powder as Affected by Extraction Method (추출방법을 달리한 미역 및 다시마 과립차의 품질 및 항산화 특성)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the quality and anti-oxidant characteristics of different granule tea variants (WSMGT: granule tea prepared from sea mustard hot water extract; ASMGT: granule tea prepared from sea mustard autoclave extract; WSTGT: granule tea prepared from sea tangle hot water extract; and ASTGT: granule tea prepared from sea tangle autoclave extract) from sea tangle and sea mustard powder. The Color of WSTGT showed the highest $L^*$, $b^*$ values, and the lowest $a^*$ value. The water absorption binding agents in ASMGT were higher than those in WSMGT, WSTGT. and ASTGT. Binding agents on water absorption in ASMGT were higher than those of WSMGT, WSTGT, and ASTGT. The alginic acid content of ASMGT was highest. The total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents of ASMGT and ASTGT were highest. The electron donating ability and ferrous ion chelating activity in WSTGT greatly increased compared to those in the other granules tea variants. These results suggest that pressure extraction can be used in functional foods.

An Analysis of the Effect of PBD Discharge Capacity to Leave Period (방치기간에 따른 PBD의 통수능 효과 분석)

  • Recently PBD method, one of acceleration of consolidation methods is used in the soft ground to shorten consolidation time for fast settlement during construction. It is economical and easy to work. Discharge capacity of PBD is sensitive in proportion to thickness of soft ground layer, and drainage of PBD declines due to disturbance effect in surrounding ground by mandrel used for vertical drainage setting and setting machines and type. Also, deviation of discharge capacity is large according to ground condition, construction condition and soil properties. In addition, when embankment loading is not conducted instantly after PBD setting due to rain or lack of embankment material supply, it causes leaving period problems. But cause and analysis of those problems for discharge capacity is lack. So, in this test, ground improvement and discharge capacity is investigated by implementing composite discharge capacity test for analysis of an effect factor of PBD discharge capacity with leaving period. After fixing the vertical drain on a cylindrical cylinder, put churned sample into the cylinder. Then leave 0day, 30day, 60day and 90day. And then, load following the loading step of 30, 70 and 120kPa using a pressure device. As a result, the longer leaving period, discharge capacity is reduced. It is caused by a decrease of discharge area caused by creep transformation moisture absorption of PBD filter after long leaving period.
