Study for Failure Examples of Injector, Idle Speed Actuator and Gasket in LPi System Vehicle (LPi 시스템 자동차의 인젝터, 공회전 액추에이터 및 개스킷 고장사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper studies the failure cases including with system of liquefied phase injection in liquified petroleum gas vehicle. The first case, resulting with inspection the injector of LPG, it occasionally certified the injection damage phenomenon that the fuel efficiency(km/l) was decreased to 5% by carbon deposit with injector hole when the driver operates the vehicle. The second case, it certified the interference phenomenon of air flow with carbon deposit in ISA system control for idle speed of engine and throttle body suppling air into engine. As a result, the fuel efficiency was decreased 7%. The third case, the outer air during intake stroke was intermittently flowed in this gasket gap because of weaken adhesion power phenomenon for cylinder block by intake manifold gasket tearing. Consequentially, it certified the decrease for fuel efficiency to 3% by risen the amount of fuel injection as the air inflow quantity. These failure examples reduced the power performance of engine and the fuel efficiency of vehicle. It have to minimize of failure phenomenon preparing through quality management.

Neural Network-Based Modeling for Fuel Consumption Prediction of Vehicle (차량 연료 소모량 예측을 위한 신경회로망 기반 모델링)

  • This paper presented neural network modeling method using vehicle data to predict fuel consumption. To acquire data for training and testing the proposed neural network, medium-class gasoline vehicle drove at downtown and parameters measured include speed, engine rpm, throttle position sensor (TPS), and mass air flow (MAF) as input data, and fuel consumption as target data from OBD-II port. Multi layer perception network was used for nonlinear mapping between the input and the output data. It was observed that the neural network model can predict the vehicle quite well with mean squared error was $1.306{\times}10^{-6}$ for the fuel consumption.

  • The effects of a WI(Water Injection) at the intake Pipe and an urea injection at the exhaust pipe for a 4-cylinder DI(Direct Injection) diesel engine were investigated experimentally The water quantity was controlled by temperature of intake manifold and MAF(Manifold Air Flow). In addition, the urea quantify was controlled by NOx quantify and MAF. Effects of WI system, urea-SCR system and tandem system were investigated for with and without EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation). As the results. the SUF(Stoichiometric Urea Flow) and NOx map were obtained. In addition, NOx results can be visualized with engine speed and engine load. It was concluded. therefore, that the NOx reduction effects of the tandem system without the EGR were more than those with the EGR base engine.

KSTAR 중성입자빔 입사장치의 크라이오 배기계통 설계 개념

  • KSTAR 토카막은 보조가열 장치로 2005년까지 1대(최종적으로는 2대)의 중성입자빔 입사장치(NBI)를 설치하여 장치의 기본 설계값에 도달할 예정이다. KSTAR NBI는 3개의 이온원을 가지고 있으며 총 수소 유입량은 70 Torr.L/s인 반면 고속 중성 입자빔량은 모두 11 Torr.L/s로 기체 배기량은 59 Torr.L/s에 달하고 압력은 장소에 따라 10-5~10-6 Torr로 유지되며 총배기속도가 1~2$\times$106 L인 펌프가 필요하다. 이때 크라이오 펌프(cryopump) 방식이 거의 유일한 해결책이라고 할 수 있다. 크라이오 펌프는 고속 입자빔 수송로의 양편에 각각 설치되는데 총면적 30m2 내외의 극저온 냉각판(cryo-pnael)들과 이를 상온 열복사로부터 보호하기 위한 열차폐(thermal shield) 및 흡기구 배플(baffle), 그리고 적절한 냉각장치로 구성된다. 시운전 단계에서는 15K GM 냉동기와 활성탄이 부착된 냉각판을 사용하는 방식과 4K GM 냉동기로 냉각하는 방식이, 최종 운전단계에서는 3.7K 액체 헬륨을 사용하는 방식이 고려되고 있다. 크라이오 펌프의 구조설계에 앞서 우선 배기속도, 흡?량, 작동압력, 냉각판 온도, 열손실량 등 설계사양을 확정하고 정리하는 일이 진행되고 있다. 또 냉각방식과 상관없이 동일한 개념으로 만들어지는 배플과 열차폐의 최적설계를 위한 몬테카를로 계산과 열전도 계산을 병행하고 있다. 이 곳에서는 KSTAR NBI 장치의 주배기계로서 사용될 크라이오 펌프의 설계방향과 전반적인 구조 및 예상성능 등에 대해 발표하려고 한다.

Correlation between Expiratory Increase of Lung Attenuation and Age and Smoking in the Subjects with Normal Inspiratory Low Dose CT and Pulmonary Function Test (저선량 흉부전산화단층촬영의 흡기 영상과 폐기능이 정상인 성인에서 호기 말 폐 감쇄도 증가 정도와 연령 및 흡연과의 연관성)

  • Background: The attenuation of the lung parenchyma increases on expiration as a consequence of decreased air in the lung. Expiratory CT scans have been used to show air trapping in patients with chronic airway disease and diffuse parenchymal disease and also in asymptomatic smokers. Although there have been several reports investigating the regional air trapping on a expiratory CT scan, there have been only a few reports evaluating the changes of whole lung attenuation with considering its clinical significance, and especially in healthy subjects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation of an expiratory increase of lung attenuation with age and smoking in healthy subjects. Methods: Asymptomatic subjects who underwent a low dose chest CT scan as part of a routine check-up and who showed normal spirometry and a normal inspiratory CT scan were recruited for this study. We excluded the subjects with significant regional air trapping seen on their expiratory CT scan. Lung attenuation was measured at 24 points of both the inspiratory and expiratory CT scans, respectively, for 100 subjects. The correlations between an expiratory increase of the lung attenuation and the amount of smoking, the patient's age and the results of spirometric test were assessed. Results: There were 87 men and 13 women included in this study. Their median age was 49.0 years old (range:25~71). Sixty current smokers, 24 ex-smokers and 16 non-smokers were included. As age increased, the expiratory increase of lung attenuation was reduced at every measuring points (r=-0.297~-0.487, Pearson correlation). The statistical significance was maintained after controlling for the effect of smoking. Smoking was associated with a reduction of the expiratory increase of lung attenuation. But the significance was reduced after controlling for the patient's age. The $FEV_1$, FVC, $FEV_1/FVC$ and $FEF_{25{\sim}75%}$ were not associated with an expiratory increase of lung attenuation. Conclusion: The expiratory increase of lung attenuation in subjects with a normal inspiratory CT scan was negatively correlated with age. It was also reduced in heavy smokers. It may reflect aging and the smoking related changes.

  • The effects of an urae injection at the exhaust pipe for a 4-cylinder DI(Direct Injection) diesel engine are investigated experimentally. The urea quantity was controlled by NOx quantity and MAF(Manifold Air Flow). The urea injection must be precisely metered and then I used the urea syringe pump. I have tested 4 kinds of items that were with the EGR base engine and without the EGR engine. Then I tested each urea-SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) system. As the results, I can caculate the SUF(Stoichiometric Urea Flow) and visualize the NOx results by variation of engine speed and engine load. Also, I can make the NOx map. Therfore, I knew that NOx reduction effects of the urea-SCR system without the EGR engine were better than the with EGR base engine except of low load and low speed.

  • This paper described the estimation methods of CO2 emission of vehicles. The important of energy and environment has emerged in the world, and the field of vehicle's development as well. CO2 was particularly the object of emission-regulation that caused of global warming. There are performance comparison methods by driving mileage, International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and chemical equation for the combustion of Octane. We took the measurement by getting data through OBD-II port from vehicle covered 5 km on road. We got the diagnosis information, specific mileage and fuel consumption in this experiment. We are able to expect similar CO2 emission by the methods in the normal speed driving. Also, we can make more realistic approach of CO2 emission by the method of estimation by IPCC and chemical equation for the combustion of Octane in rapid acceleration driving.

  • The ISO standard specifies the diameter of the gas introducing tube to be definitely 1/10 of the chamber inner diameter of the standard test dome which is used for evaluating the performance of vacuum pumps. Because the inner diameter of the test chamber should not be less than the intake diameter of the vacuum pump, the tube diameter would be even 100 mm if fitting to a very large vacuum pump. Though such a thick tube can be accommodated in a large test dome, it is worthful to investigate whether a thicker tube is helpful or adverse for making more accurate measurements. In this paper it is discussed if there is an optimum tube diameter by comparing the isotropicity of particles emanating from the tube and that of particles entering the orifice.

Then WI system was applied to reduce NOx As the results. we can make the NOx map and visualize the NOx results by variation of engine speed and engine load It was known that effect of WI system on NOx reduction without the EGR was better than the with EGR base engine except of low load and speed condition.

A Study on the Filter Media and Performance of Intake Air Filter for Vehicular Engine (자동차 흡기 에어필터의 여재 및 성능에 관한 연구)

  • Since the vehicle is regarded as the third living space, the comfortable conditions are required in the passenger compartment. For this reason, customers are concerned about the filtering performances and the importance of filter media has been greatly placed. Therefore the dust holding capacity, the efficiency of these filter media (dry paper, wet paper, non-woven) and the configuration of air filter for vehicle were measured in this study. The following results were obtained on the basis of air filter test. It shows that the thickness and poresize of filter media should be lower for the higher efficiency. The measurement result shows that the performance of round shape filters are higher than the square shape filters. The dust holding capacity of the wet paper and the non-woven paper is higher than the dry paper. As a result, this research can provide an important design parameter and product guidance of the intake air filter for vehicular engine.
