  • The purpose of this study was to explore various types of couples' time use and to investigate the characteristics of each type. The subject of the study consisted of 96 employed wives and their husbands and 215 unemployed wives and their husbands living in Seoul. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and cluster analysis using SAS 8.2 program. The major findings were as follows: The time use of wives and their husbands both on one weekday and one holiday was classified as personal time, paid work time, housework time, and free time. These 4 categories of time were basic elements to classify the types of couples' time use in the cluster analysis. As a result of the cluster analysis, four types of time use of couples were yielded. These were called as 'personal time oriented type', 'paid work time oriented type', 'housework time oriented type' and 'free time oriented type'.

  • Design Hourly Factor(DHF) is defined as the ratio of design hourly volume(DHV) to Average Annual Daily Traffic(AADT). Generally DHV used the 30th rank hourly volume. But this case DHV is affected by holiday volumes so the road is at risk for overdesigning. Computing K factor is available for counting 8,760 hour traffic volume, but it is impossible except permanent traffic counts. This study applied three method to make DHF, using 30th rank hourly volume to make DHF(method 1), using peak hour volume to make DHF(method 2). Another way to make DHF, rank hourly volumes ordered descending connect a curve smoothly to find the point which changes drastic(method 3). That point is design hour, thus design hourly factor is able to be computed. In addition road classified 3 type for national highway using factor analysis and cluster analysis, so we can analyze the characteristic of DHF by road type. DHF which was used method 1 is the largest at any other method. There is no difference in DHF by road type at method 2. This result shows for this reason because peak hour is hard to describe the characteristic of hourly volume change. DHF which was used method 3 is similar to HCM except recreation road but 118th rank hourly volume is appropriate.

  • The purpose of the study was to explore the nurses' perception of flexible working and present an operational guideline for implementation. The data were collected from a survey of 532 nurses conducted from 10 February to 24 February, 2015, using simple random sampling. SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the data. This study found that the demanding for shorter hour shifts was highest ($M=3.89{\pm}0.87$) and 242 participants (46.2%) intended to apply the shift, followed by a fixed night shift, fixed weekend shift, and 12 hour shift. The common reasons identified were the poor environment of shift work and the challenges of child care. The increased time for personal development, relaxation activity to improve the quality of life and child care was highlighted and work-life balance was noted as a positive impact of flexible working. The negative impacts of flexible working were being likely to become temporary workers. These results can help establish uniform working conditions of nurses in the future by providing a standardized operational guideline as a precondition for reasonable compensation and working environment according to a flexible working pattern.
