자동차 휠 베어링 유닛의 장수명 설계 (A Design of an Automotive Wheel Bearing Unit for Long Life)

  • This paper presents a new design method of the 1 generation wheel bearing unit using a numerical optimization technique in order to increase bearing fatigue life. For calculating the fatigue life, a method of load analysis is studied on the automotive wheel bearing system. The design variables selected are ball size, initial contact angle, number of balls, pitch diameter, pre-load, and distance between ball centers. The method of feasible directions in ADS (Automated Design Synthesis) is utilized to automatically find the optimum design variables. To validate the design method, a computer program is developed and applied to a practical passenger car model. The optimum design results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed design method showing that the system life of the optimally designed wheel bearing unit is enhanced in comparison with that of the initial ones within the given available design space.

초전도 자기베어링-플라이휠 시스템의 베어링 모델링 (Bearing Modeling of Superconducting Magnetic Bearings-Flywheel System)

  • The purpose of Superconducting Magnetic Bearing Flywheel Energy Storage System (SMB-FESS) is to store unused nighttime electricity until it is needed during daytime. An analytical model of the SMB-FESS is necessary to identify the system behavior. At first, we have to model the superconducting magnetic bearing. Modeling the SMB is same as estimating the bearing parameter. The theoretical modal parameter is calculated through the equation of motion and the experimental modal parameter is estimated through the impact testing (modal testing). The bearing parameter is searched by using the non-linear least square method until the theoretical result corresponds to the experimental result. The suggested modeling method is verified by comparing experimental and analytical frequency response function.

고속플라이휠 에너지저장기술의 개발현황 및 전망

  • 플라이휠 에너지 저장시스템은 입력되는 잉여전기에너지를 플라이휠의 관성을 이용, 회전 운동에너지로 변환하여 저장하고 필요시 전기에너지로 순시에 출력하는 장치로 배터리와 같은 화학적 에너지 저장장치에 대비되는 기계적 에너지 저장방식 (Electro-mechanical Battery)이다. 플라이휠 시스템은 많은 에너지를 단시간에 저장하고 이를 순발적으로 활용할 수 있는 고효율, 장수명, 무공해의 청정 에너지저장/재생장치로 선진국에서는 무공해 교통수단(전기자동차 등)의 차세대 보조 동력원을 비롯한 각종 민수용, 국방용으로 응용연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다(전력저장용, 인공위성의 태양광 에너지 저장 및 자세제어용, 무소음 적진침투용 차세대 전차의 보조동력원 등). 고효율의 에너지 저장 및 재생을 위해 플라이휠 에너지 저장시스템은 크게 .고속화, 고에너지저장을 위한 복합재 플리이휠 로터.공기 마찰손실 저감용 자가 진공펌프(Self Vacuuming system).지지부 접촉마찰로 인한 에너지 손실 저감용 자기베어링/제어부.플라이휠 구동 및 발전을 위한 Motor/generator.고효율 에너지 입출력 제어부 등의 첨단기술부품으로 구성되어 있는 바, 본 논문에서는 이러한 플라이휠 에너지 저장기술의 국내외 개발현황을 소개하고 현재까지 파악된 기술적 문제점 및 향후 기술개발 전망에 대해 논하고자 한다.

  • 본 논문은 초전도 플라이휠 에너지 저장장치(Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System : SFES)의 고속회전 시험을 통하여 휠의 진동 특성을 평가 하였다. 초전도 베어링(Superconductor Magnetic Bearing : SMB)은 동작시키기 않고 플라이휠의 외부 외란이나 예측하지 못한 진동을 억제할 수 있도록 설치된 전자석 댐퍼(Electric Magnetic Damper : EMD) 만을 이용해 휠을 부양하고 고속회전 시험을 수행하였다. 이를 통하여 플라이휠의 고속 회전 운전영역에서 EMD는 충분한 진동억제 능력을 보임을 확인 하였다.

  • Automotive wheel bearing grease helps to reduce stresses and prevent wear of wheel bearings. But it is easily contaminated by water and other contaminants. In this study, we investigated the property change of automotive wheel bearing grease under water contamination. The result showed that some properties such as dropping point, work penetration and oxidation stability were not influenced by water content. However, most of properties such as work stability, water washout characteristics, leakage tendency, oil separation, evaporation loss and rust protection became worse after water was added. This is thought that added water makes the interaction weak between thickener and base oil of grease.

휠 베어링용 밀봉 시일 설계를 위한 시일 립의 밀착력 예측 (Prediction of the Reaction Force for Seal Lip Design with Wheel Bearing Unit)

  • Wheel bearing units were almost exclusively used for car front wheel, where the two ball rows are directly side by side with integrated rubber seal. The seal is of important for wheel bearing units due to the adverse environmental conditions with mud and splash water. The seal of wheel bearing units was designed to have geometry with multi lips, which elastic lip contacts and deforms with bearing. The equation of reaction force for deformed lip as cantilever beam was previously used for seal lip design. But it's result was not useful because deflection of the beam differs from lip's. In this study, deformed shape of the lip was assumed to and order function which is more similar to lip deformation and made the equation for reaction force prediction. The Reaction forces from each other equations were compared with results by FEA to prove usefulness of new equation.

  • Flywheel energy storage systems (FESS) have advantages over other types of energy storage methods due to their infinite charge/discharge cycles and environmental friendliness. The system has two radial bearings and one hybrid-thrust bearing. Thrust hybrid-type bearing use permanent magnet to relieve gravity load. The radial bearings were designed to provide sufficient force slew rate considering the unbalance disturbance at the operating speeds. In this paper, we will derive dynamic model of hybrid-type bearing using permanent magnet for thrust bearing and present simulation and stability of the model.
