  • This is a study on the military costumes of Hunryeondogam, which was the center of Five Military Camps in the mid and the late Joseon dynasty. I confirmed the characteristics and system of military costumes of Hunryeondogam by document research and positive research. The military organization of Hunryeondogam was comprised of the high-ranking military officers such as Hunryeondaejang, Junggun, Cheonchong, Byeoljang and Gukbyeoljang, the mid and low ranking military officers such as Pachong, Chogwa and soldiers. And the military costume of Hunryeondogam included Gapju, Yoongbok and Goonbok for military officers and all kinds of military uniforms for soldiers. Imjin war and ritualized military ceremonies in the era of peace had influence on the military costume. Officers, for example, were wearing Dangap and soldiers were wearing Cheolgap or Pigap that depended on the branch of the army. Politically, kings in the mid and the late Joseon had organized military organizations to strengthen their royal authority. I think that the policy can be effectively seen by observing the military costume system. The qualitative differences in cloth materials and the presence or absence of patterns of Goonbok, the qualitative differences in the decoration of Jeonrip and the presence or absence of Yodae were able to distinguish the identity and the rank. An assumption can be made that these things could have been affected by social causes, such as frequent trips of the King and stable society. This cause could be influence on substitute Yoongbok with Goonbok that from the low ranking military officers to the high ranking military officers of Hunryeondogam. The societal changes in the mid and the late Joseon dynasty are reflected on the military costumes system of Hunryeondogam.

  • This study aims to examine what danmyeongmuye was enforced to military in Hullyeon dogam, Geumweyeong, and Eoyeong-cheong through Siye in chapter gunjeong of Mangiyoram. The conclusions are as in the following. First, the typical type of siye performed to military were jungsun and gwanmujae. magun and bogun were performed separately with chosi as their center and the basic forms of test have wongi and byeolgi in common. Second, there was a special restriction of application in jungsun. applicants in waegeomgyojeonsu must not apply yedo and hyeopdo in duplicate and applicants in yedo and hyeopdo must not do in the same manner. this was a considerate system to the military because they could be a professional through a systematic training of only one kind of danmyeongmuye. Third, one of the special features in gwanmujae was bogun byeolgi. waegeomgyojeon, yedo, hyeopd eonwoldo, jedokgeom, bongukgeom, gichang, deungpae, nangseon, jukjangchang, dangpa, gwonbeop, gonbang, mokjangchang were designated and performed. 13gi except mokjangchang were martial art in muyedobotongji. danmyeongmuye was actually supplied and very helpful to the military. Forth, Siye made the military practice skills and improve martial art ability of their own free will and it was a great reward system to an excellent military at the same time. through this study we can understand the concrete meaning of danmyeongmuye at the central military camp in late Joseon dynasty.

  • The purpose of this study is to know how to utilize foreigners such as Weltevree and Hamel who visited Korea in the pre-modern period, during history class. Both Weltevree and Hamel were Dutch men, and the first person who visited the Joseon Dynasty was Weltevree. He was a sailor of the Dutch East India Company, landed on Jeju Island in 1627, and since then, he did not return to his country. He played a major role in the execution of weapons. Hammel, the merchant catcher of the Dutch East India Company, traveled to Joseon in 1653 and contacted several kinds of people in various parts of the country for 13 years, and was able to survey the scenery and customs of Joseon. It can be difficult for students to understand the overall trends of the world history and the views of the East and the West because students learn from Western history, East Asian history, and Korean history, separately. Learning characteristics associated with East-West exchanges will enable students to understand the Western and Eastern history of the West, and understand the history of the world.

  • he guarding system of the "Choson" era is completed by the Gyeongguk-daejeon(an administrative canon) at the kings "Sejong" and "Yejong", and it is supplemented at the King "Seongjong". "Geum-gun" is composed of "Naegeum-wi", "Gyeombok-sa", "Wirim-wi" and "Jeongro-wi" in the period before the Japanese Aggression of Korea in 1952, and in the period after the aggression war, the organization of the "Geum-gun" is changed repeatedly according to circumstances in the period after the aggression. They("Geum-gun") devote themselves to the protection of kings and the capital defense in the first period of the "Choson" era. The most important change of the "Geum-gun" is the practice of five military units system, three military units of them, "Hunryeon-dogam", "Eoyeong-cheong" and "Geumwi-yeong", take charge of the guard of kings and the capital defense, and "Chongyung-cheong" and "Sueo-cheong" take charge of the defense of the outer areas of the capital region with key positions located at "Namhan-sanseong" and "Bukhan-sanseong"(mountain fortress Walls). The function of the "Geum-gun" is extended through the aggressions, therefore the number of soldiers is increased greatly. The guarding system for the country and its royal family is frequently changed according to the improvement of the people's position with themselves-awakening and their understanding of realities. The reorganization of the "Geum-gun" including "Howi-cheong", "Geumgun-cheong", "Sukwi-so" and "Jangyong-yeong" is unavoidable to strengthen the royal rights that are weaken by deposing the king "Injo". The standing of the existing organizations is changed many times with financial problems. The enthronement of the king "Jeongjo" is a great epoch in the change of the guarding system.
