Recently the use of concrete post-installed set anchors has been increasing because this constructing method is flexible and easy to attach or fix structural members when we repair, reinforce, or remodel structures. Accordingly, designers and builders of Korea depend on foreign design codes since there are no exact domestic anchor design codes that they could credit. The anchor in plain concrete loaded in tensile exhibits various failure modes such as concrete breakout, splitting, steel failure, pull-out and side-face blowout, that depending on the tensile strength of the steel, the strength of concrete, embedment depth, interval, the edge distance and the presence of adjacent anchor. The objective is to investigate the effects of the variations like anchor embedment depth, interval and edge distance on pull-out fracture behavior of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in plain concrete.

This study presents post-installed anchors whose heads and extension sleeves are improved. The optimal lengths of the extension sleeves and headers were analytically determined by simulations. As a result of analysis using Finite element method (FEM), 9.0mm and 3.0mm were determined as the optimal lengths of sleeves and headers respectively. In pull-out tests using the improved post-installed anchors, all specimens satisfied the coefficient of variation of 15%. Comparing the pull-out strengths of existing anchors and the improved anchors, it was increased by 1.25 times for anchors embedded with a depth of 50mm, and 1.54 times for 70mm. In the cases of high-strength concrete, the strengths were increased by 1.28 and 1.55 times for 50mm and 70mm respectively. Moreover, as a result of shear tests, the improved anchors perform the greater strength of 1.38 times than the existing anchors.

Recently the use of concrete post-installed set anchors has been increasing because this constructing method is flexible and easy to attach or fix structural members when we repair, reinforce, or remodel a concrete structures. Depending on the shear strength of steel, the strength of concrete, edge distance and anchor interval, etc, the anchor loaded in shearing exhibits various failure modes such as steel failure, concrete failure, concrete pryout. In this study, the objective is to investigate the effects of the variations like anchor embedment depth, anchor interval, edge distance and concrete strength on the shear failure behavior of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in concrete. The results of embedment depth experiments show that concrete strength has much effection on the shallow embedment depth. Steel failure occur to all results of the anchor interval experiments, but concrete is failed when edge distance experiments that less than the embedment depth. Through the comparision of the same parameters experiments results show that as strong as concrete strength are the displacement results are small.

In 1990s, with the increase of domestic building renovation but also increase the amount of anchor. The 45-degree cone failure theory has been used in concrete anchor bolts design, but the CCD (concrete capacity design) method was adopted as a new design method since 2000. However, the method has some problems because it is based on the experimental results of pre-installed concrete anchor bolts. In this study, the objective is to investigate the effects of anchor edge distance, anchor interval and concrete strength on pullout characteristics of post-installed concrete set anchor embedded in plain concrete.

Post-installed anchor is a structural material that connects structural and non-structural members to existing concrete members. However, there are cases where rebar interception and construction error occur at the site. In that case, measures are needed to prevent performance degradation of the rear-installation anchors. In this study, in order to evaluate the performance of torsional control expandable post-installed anchors for compressive strength and effective depth of the reference concrete was tested. The results of the most commonly used tests of M10 and M20 showed that had variable coefficients within 15%, satisfying the reliability presented in KCI(2017). It was also confirmed that the depth of the buried and the strength of concrete affect the strength of the pavement. Based on the results of the existing similar studies and the results of this study, the design equation of the post-installed anchor was proposed and the results were compared with the existing design.

In this study, tensile and shear test method for post-installed mechanical anchors embedded in concrete was proposed and the verification test was carried out to evaluate the design strength of anchor.
Recently, there has been a growing interest in expanded sidewalks for existing bridges. The cantilever beam system applied to expanded sidewalks for existing bridges are connected with the concrete structure by adhesive anchor bolts. However, the extended sidewalks are currently constructed without standardized regulations, which lead to excessive design of the beam spacing and installation and the construction difficulties due to the excessive over-weight. Moreover, there is only limited analysis and experiment data on the post-installed adhesive anchor bolts, so the excessive number of bolts is used for the connection. This paper deals with a method to increase the effectiveness of beam sections and anchor bolts geometry for expanded sidewalk of existing bridge. The study results showed that the failure of cantilever beam connected by adhesive anchor bolts was dominated by bond failure of interface between concrete and bolt. Also, the results indicated the possibilities of improving serviceability as well as safety of the sidewalks by changing of beam section and prestressing the bolts.

In general, most of the electrical equipment responsible for control within power plants is housed in self-standing cabinets. These cabinets are typically fixed to a slab using post-installed anchors. Although the fixation method of using post-installed anchors provides stability, there is a risk of conductor failure due to external forces, including moments. However, the performance assessment of current anchors is only evaluated through uniaxial material tests. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study is to compare the static performance of post-installed anchors, considering on-site installation conditions, with their performance in material tests and to analyze the behavioral characteristics of the anchors. While conducting experiments using actual cabinets would be ideal, practical and spatial constraints make this approach difficult. As an alternative, experiments were conducted using a test specimen consisting of a steel column and a support. As a result, the pull-out performance of anchors reflecting on-site installation conditions was measured to be about 10% higher than that observed in material tests. The trends in load reduction and the point of maximum performance for the anchors also differed. To verify the reliability of the experimental study, a 3D FEM analysis was performed, which will provide predictive information on the loads transferred to the post-installed anchors for structural performance evaluations of electrical cabinets using shaking table test in the future.

Post-installed concrete set anchors are installed after the concrete hardened. These anchors increasing usage in development of construction equipment and flexible construction. The anchor loaded in shearing exhibits various failure modes such as steel failure, concrete failure, concrete pryout, depending on the shear strength of steel, the strength of concrete, edge distance and anchor interval, etc,. In this study, the objective is to investigate the effects of the variations like anchor embedment depth, edge distance and concrete strength on experimental and finite element analysis of shear failure behavior of post-installed concrete set anchor for light load embedded in concrete. The results of embedment depth experiments show that concrete strength has much affection on the shallow embedment depth. Concrete strength has no much affection with anchor interval and edge distance parameter and both experimental results occurred same failure mode. By comparing the experimental results that occurred steel failure mode show that as strong as concrete strength are the displacement results are small.

Recently, seismic design for anchors is required, which are used for connecting structural members and non-structural and structural members. In this study, pull-out tests on the new expansion anchors which have been developed for cracked concrete. The anchors of 12 mm and 20 mm diameters were tested which are commonly used. Experiments were conducted on non-cracked concrete and cracked concrete to evaluate the seismic performance of the post-installed anchor. The experimental method complies with the specified test protocol (KCI, 2018). Three experimental variables are included in this study: presence of cracks, concrete compressive strength, and effective embedment depth. The strength of the anchors was evaluated with the characteristic capacity K5% determined from the test results incorporated with the safety of 5% fractile. The characteristic capacity K5% of the non-cracked and cracked concrete specified in KDS 14 20 54 are 9.8 and 7.0, respectively. Test results show that all groups except the three groups have higher characteristic capacity K5% than the KDS code and the nominal strengths of the tested anchors can be determined with the obtained characteristic capacity K5%.
