A Study on Stroke Based Rendering Using Painting Media Profile (페인팅 매체 프로파일을 이용한 스트로크 기반 렌더링에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper we introduce a new approach to stroke based rendering using brush stroke profile. Our proposed method, based on image retrieval method, is a simple but flexible and scalable method to create various painting styles, for which scalable database constructed with the collection of real stroke data is used. Input image is reproduced with combinations of brush stoke in the database, when a search process to determinate appropriate brush stroke and a judgment process to decide whether to draw the retrieved brush stroke on the canvas or not are presented. In addition, this paper suggests a new brush stroke model and a depiction technique in order to utilize effective height information which allows natural texture depiction, or good visual effect, without carrying out physical simulation. Our method is able to create diverse variations of painting by controling various user parameters. It also provides scalable framework that can produce various painting styles with different artistic media by changing the stroke combinations of stroke database.

  • In this paper, we suggest a stroke level of detail (LOD) based on a saliency density. On painter]y rendering, the stroke LOD has an advantage of making the observer concentrate on the main object and improving accuracy of expression. For the stroke LOD, it is necessary to classify the detailed and abstracted area. We divide the area on the basis of saliency distribution and the level of detailed expression is controlled based on the saliency information. 'We define that the area of which the saliency distribution is high is a major subject that an artist tries to express, it is described in detail. The area of which the saliency distribution is low is abstractly described. Each divided area has the abstraction level. And by adapting the brushes of which sizes are appropriate to each level, it is possible to express the area which needs to be expressed in details from the one which needs to be expressed abstractly.

  • Chiasmia cinerearia (Bremer et Grey) belonging to the subfamily Ennominae(Lepidoptera: Geometridae) is a new forestry pest attacking to Sophora japonica in Gyeonggi province. Chiasmia cinerearia oviposited about 250~300 eggs per female on leaves. Larva had five instar stages. Adults emerged twice a year in early May and late July. The period of one generation was about 48 days. Body length of larvae was 25~30 mm and body color was light green with dark yellow lateral lines in abdomen. The wingspan of adults was 30 to 35 mm in length. The color of forewings was greyish brown with quadrilateral patterns on outer lines.

Edge Based Dynamic Brush Stroke Generation for Painterly Rendering (회화적 렌더링을 위한 에지 기반 동적 브러시 스트로크 생성에 관한 연구)

  • Painterly rendering may bring various results through the parameters that determine the characteristics of brush strokes such as, color, orientation, size, and shape. In this paper, we propose the most adaptive brush stroke generation for source images, using reference data. Our algorithm used Colors formed by actual palette colors from artists. To create the palette, we have referred mostly to colors used in Van Gogh's works and determined the color of brush strokes by transferring it to the most similar one, through comparing colors used in source images and the palette colors. Also, In order to emulate a brush stroke with dynamic properties like Van Gogh styles we have applied a brush stroke orientation that surrounds the edges by referring to the edge orientation of source images. The sizes were determined depending on the different sizes of the objects from wide to narrow brushes. Finally, we applied spline curve shapes to simulate curves and swirls like Van Gogh styles. The brush strokes created in such method, were applied separately according to its segmented images, and composed after rendering.

Adhesives Used in Conservation Treatment of Oriental Paintings -Comparison of Adhesiveness and Conservativeness in Relation to Starch and Protein Contents of the Adhesive Formula (회화 문화재의 보존처리에 쓰이는 풀 - 전분과 단백질의 함량에 따른 접착력과 보존성을 중심으로)

  • The paste used for conserving and mounting has much to do with the life of cultural properties of paintings. Previous studies on the pastes dealt with elimination of protein from wheat flour as protein has been known to do harm to paste and investigated the effects of starch and protein content on adhesive strength and conservativeness. We found that protein content inversely affected adhesive strength while adhesive strength and viscosity of paste were proportionally related to starch concentration of the paste. The adhesives with more protein showed less conservativeness. Types and number of microorganisms were found to increase as protein percentage increased. All these results points that the higher content of protein in adhesive formula support higher microbial growth with reduced adhesive strength, but higher flexibility. The optimized paste of conservation treatment was wheat starch paste with not only minimize viscosity but also maximized adhesive strength.

  • Three isoflavones and one isoflavanone were isolated from the wood of Sophora japonica (Leguminosae) which has been selected due to its high antifungal activity among the tested species, Four compounds were identified as 5,7-dihydroxy-4',6-dimethoxyisoflavone (irisolidone), 5,7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone (biochanin A), 7-hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone (formononetin) and 7-hydroxy-4'-methoxy-isoflavanone by Mass and NMR spectroscopic analysis. The antifungal activity of the isoflavonoids was tested by medium dilution method and showed low antifungal activity indicating that the other compounds may contribute to high activity of the wood extractives of S. japonica.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide data for the development of a nursing intervention program by analyzing the concept of prisoner correction. From April 1st, 2016, to July 30th, the research literature on all domestic and international prisoner correction from 2011 to 2015 were searched using PubMed and NDSL RISS. 37 documents were analyzed according to conceptual analysis method procedures by Walker and Avant. In order to promote a positive attitude toward life through internal reflection of prisoner correction, individual characteristics for improvements in problem solving abilities, social adaptation abilities, re-socialization and the protection of the people and society to inmates displaying anti-social and moral behaviors that violated the law. The purpose of this study was to establish a desirable direction for prisoner correction, and provide a theoretical basis for the development of a nursing intervention program.

  • The biggest challenge immigrants face is language. We realized that Korean education contents suited for it are lacking more than we thought. To help with the above problems, we decided to make a mobile game for Korean conversation education. The proposed game is based on the online course of Sejonghakdang and is composed of life conversation which can be used immediately in real. We selected female marriage immigrants from China who have a large number of foreign residents and need a lot of Korean education but have a relatively low chance of being contacted. In the case of female marriage immigrants, communication was possible, but it was characterized that the composition of sentences was not smooth. Considering these features, we chose the game method that can match the problem in the unit of the word.

Material Diagnosis of Metalbased Pigments in Paintings Using Terahertz Imaging (테라헤르츠 이미징을 이용한 금속 성분 회화 재료 진단 연구)

  • Terahertz radiation cannot pass through metal and therefore reflect and return most signals. Utilizing this property, this study analyzed information on paintings to verify the usage of metal materials on paintings and the scope of their application. First, the study tested specimens of metal-based pigments and synthetic pearl pigments with metallic colors and textures in order to compare basic characteristics of terahertz images, such as signal severance caused by metallic substances, traits reflected in cross-section images, and high degree of reflection. Subsequently, based on the collected information, the study diagnosed various types of paintings including Korean traditional paintings and oil paintings using the terahertz imaging technique to confirm the usage of metal-based pigments in the inner layers of paintings and their scope of application. The terahertz imaging technique could has the potential to provide scientific evidence for previously-undiscovered information and art-historical records about various types of paintings that used metalbased pigments, thereby rendering significant utility for the conservation and authentication of paintings.

IN VITRO STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF THE FLOURIDE ON THE REMINERALIZATION OF ACID ETCHED ENAMEL (불소가 산부식된 법랑질의 재석회화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Remineralization of acid-etched enamel across the time has been one of the curiosities in the context of the orthodontic biomechanics(Arends J. et al., IRL Press, 1, 1985), nevertheless, is so far controversial. It was the aim of this study to observe the remineralization patterns of acid-etched enamel across the time and whether the existence of fluoride might carry out any modifications. The intact buccal surfaces of the first bicuspids which was extracted for orthodontic treatment were ground smooth, and etched with a 38w/w% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds, The surface was observed by the scanning electron microscope and surface microhardness was measured after immersion in the fluoride or non-fluoride containing remineralizing solution for 0 hour, 12 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 28 days, and 42 days. The following results and conclusions were drawn; 1. Surface microhardness increased in both fluoride containing and non-fluoride containing solution group with time lapse. 2. In fluoride containing solution group, the surface microhardness sharply increased at the 12 hours group, on the other hand, surface microhardness increased at 3 days in non-fluoride containing solution group. 3. The difference in microhardness value between two groups manifested gradual decrease. 4. Scanning electron microphotographs disclosed that the fluoride containing solution group generated spiculate sub-stances in the 12 hours group, which was increased in number and size with time lapse. 7 days later, spherical composure was began to be produced, The spiculate substances so much increased in number that the etched enamel surface looked like flat in 42 days. 5. In non fluoride-containing solution group, there was no surface change at 42 days, perceivable in scanning electron microphotographs which could be defined as remineralization though the surface was a little rougher than the incipient etched surface. These results demonstrate that the action of the fluoride is exceedingly pertinent in the remineralization of acid-etched enamel and the remineralization process goes uninterruptedly with time lapse.
