In this work the friction and wear characteristics of the gray cast iron surface processed by broaching method, which is widely used in the machinery industry, were investigated. The broaching process is mainly used for mass production because it has high dimensional accuracy and processing speed, but the defects on surface can be easily generated. In order to improve the tribological characteristics, the approach was to reduce the roughness and hardness of the surface by adding a machining process to the broaching specimen. The secondary machining process using abrasive grains produces low roughness and hardness than broaching because it has high tool accuracy and removes the work hardened surface. The friction coefficient and the wear rate were assessed using a reciprocating-type tribotester to analyze the effects of surface finishing on the tribological properties. The friction tests were conducted under dry and lubricated conditions. The test results showed that the reduction of surface roughness and hardness through secondary machining process in lubricated condition improved the friction and wear characteristics. The reason why the same results did not appear in a dry condition was that wear occurred more rapidly than in lubricated condition. Thus, the positive effect of roughness and hardness of the surface obtained through the secondary machining process was not observed.
This study aims to improve the machinability of gray cast irons in high speed cutting by using nonmetallic inclusions. In this research, small quantities of AL and Mg were added to conventional gray cast irons without influencing their mechanical characteristics and castability to investigate the effects of these nonmetallic inclusions in the gray cast irons on tool wear in high speed cutting. During the high speed turning of gray cast iron containing Al and Mg using a cermet tool, protective layers consisting of Al, Mg, Si, Mn, S and O were detected on the flank face and rake face of the tool, and flank and crater wear were significantly reduced compared to the turning of conventional gray cast iron and gray cast iron added with Al. The effect of inclusions on tool wear increased with increasing cutting speed, and flank and crater wear was the smallest at the cutting speed of 700m/min. Moreover, in face milling, the addition of Al and Mg drastically decreased the wear rate, and wear hardly progressed even in prolonged cutting length after initial wear. The amount of adhesion on tool faces increased as the cutting speed increased. This increase in cutting speed resulted in the formation of a thick protective layer and the reduction of tool wear. Furthermore, the addition of small amounts of Al and Mg prevented thermal cracks in the face milling of gray cast irons.

Regulation theories has paid little attention to spatial regulation processes, while it has focused on economic and social regulation processes. More specifically, there have been little researches on regulationist approach to the transformation of the post-socialist system in the context of the space economy. Therefore, the article has attempted to conceptualize the transformation of space economy under the post-socialist system in the light of regulation theories. The space economy could be regarded as the foundation of the reproduction of social relations. Thus, the transformation of post-socialist system has led to the fundamental changes in enterprise and industrial networks as well as social relations in spatial contexts. In this perspective, the research has attempted to identify 'the mode of enterprise regulation' regarded as a codified firm networks by investigating intra-, inter- and extra-firm relations associated with the transformation of post-socialist system. Also, it has intended to suggest three types of the space economy - (1) disembedded economies based on the isolated networks and dissolution of pre-existing networks, (2) embedded economies based on the interaction of institutions and restructuring of networks, and (3) over-embedded economies based on the insulated institutions and endurance of pre-existing networks-in accordance with the governance, institution and networks in the post-socialist system.
This study has been performed to investigate some effects of the power density and traverse speed of laser beam on the optical microstructure, hardness and fatigue resistance of gray cast iron treated by laser surface hardening technique. Optical micrograph has shown that the dissolution of graphite flakes and the coarsening of lath martensite tend to increase with a small amount of retained austenite as the power density increases under the condition of a given traverse speed. Hardness measurements have revealed that as the power density increases, hardness values of outermost surface layer increases from Hv=620 to Hv=647 in case of traverse speed of 2.0m/min at gray cast iron. Fatigue test has exhibited that the fatigue strength of laser surface hardened specimen is superier compared to that of untreated specimen, showing that values for the fatigue strength at $N_f=10^7$ of gray cast iron laser-surface-hardened at a low power density of $4076w/cm^2$ and a high power density of $8153w/cm^2$ under the condition of a given traverse speed of 2.0m/min are $15kg_f/mm^2$ and $20kg_f/mm^2$, respectively, whereas the fatigue strength of untreated specimen is $11kg_f/mm^2$. Under high stress-low cycle condition a noraml brittleness fracture appears, whereas a ductile fracture with beach mark is observed in the specimen tested under low stress-high cycle condition.
Joining of grey cast iron by fusion welding has much difficulties for its extremely low ductility and low toughness because of the flake form of the graphite. And the brittle microstructure, i.e. ledeburite may be formed during fusion welding by its rapid cooling rates. By these kinds of welding problem, preheat and post heat treatment temperature must be increased to avoid weld crack or welding problems. In order to avoid these fusion welding problem, friction welding of cast iron was carried out for improving joint soundness, establishing friction welding variables. There is no factor for evaluating friction weldability in continuous drive type friction welding. In this point of view, this study proposed the parameters for calculating friction weld heat input. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. There was a close relationship between tensile strength and flash appearance of friction welded joint. 2. Tensile strength was decreased and flash was severely oxidized as increasing frictional heating time. 3. As increased forging pressure $P_2$, flash had a large crack and tensile strength was decreased. 4. As powdered graphite by rotational frictional force induced flat surface and hindered plastic flow of metal, tensile strength of welded joint was decreased. 5. Heat input for continuous drive type friction welding could be calculated by the factors of $P_1$, $P_2$ and upset distance(${\delta}$).
Flake graphite cast irons with the high damping capacity have been used for the control of vibration and noise occurring in the members of various mechanical structures under vibrating conditions. However, the damping capacity which is morphological characteristics of graphite is one of the important factors in reducing the vibration and noise, but hardly any work has deal with this problem. Therefore, the authors have examined the damping capacity of various cast irons with alloying elements and studied the influences of the matrix structures, mechanical properties and morphological characteristics of graphite. The main results obtained are as follows: Effects of pouring temperature on the damping capacities and mechanical properties were investigated in 3.6%C cast iron. At $1400^{\circ}C$, specific damping capacity showed the maximum value, and decreased with increase pouring temperature. Mechanical properties showed opposite trend with the damping capacity. And then, effects of Ni on the damping capacities and mechanical properties have been investigated in 3.6%C gray cast iron. At 0.2%Ni content, specific damping capacity showed the maximum value, and decreased with further increase in Ni content. Graphite length also showed same behavior. This indicates that the specific damping capacity has a close relation with graphite length. In case of Mo addition in 3.6%C-0.2%Ni cast iron, specific damping capacity and tensile strength was 27% and $20kgf/mm^2$ at 3.6%C-0.2%Ni-0.3%Mo cast iron respectively.

Specific damping capacity increased with increase in Ti content. Graphite length also showed same behavior. Tensile strength increased with Ti content due to refinement of pearlite. In the case of 0.14%Ti addition in 3.6%C-0.2%Ni-0.02%Sb cast iron, specific damping capacity and tensile strength was 36% and 25 $kgf/mm^2$ which are higher than 32% and 15 $kgf/mm^2$ at 3.6%C-0.2%Ni cast iron respectively.
This study investigated the microstructure and wear properties of extruded hyper-eutectic Al-Si (15wt.%) alloy in an engine oil environment. The wear mechanism of the material was also analyzed and compared to conventional gray cast iron. In microstructural observation results of Al-15wt.%Si alloy, primary Si phase ($45.3{\mu}m$) and eutectic Si phase ($3.1{\mu}m$) were found in the matrix, and the precipitations of $Mg_2Si({\beta}^{\prime})$, $Al_2Cu({\theta}^{\prime})$ and $Al_6(Mn,Fe)$ were also detected. In the case of gray cast iron, ferrite and pearlite were observed. It was also observed that flake graphite ($20-130{\mu}m$) were randomly distributed. Wear rates were lower in the Al-Si alloy as compared to those of gray cast iron in all load conditions, confirming the outstanding wear resistance of Al-15wt.%Si alloy in engine oil environment. In the $4kg_f$ condition, the wear rate of gray cast iron was $6.0{\times}10^{-5}$ and that of Al-Si measured $0.8{\times}10^{-5}$. The microstructures after wear of the two materials were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The primary Si and eutectic Si of Al-Si alloy effectively mitigated the abrasive wear, and the Al matrix effectively endured to accept a significant amount of plastic deformation caused by wear.
TIG remelting was performed to harden the surface of automobile earn shaft. Multipass remelting was conducted in longitudinal direction under argon gas atmosphere. The microstructure of as-east earn shaft was gray iron which consisted of flake graphite and pearlitic matrix. The remelted area had microstructue of both fine pearlite and ledeburite structure that consisted of globular austenite and $Fe_3C$. Hardness for as-cast earn shaft had HRc 25~28, however it increased at remelted area to HRc 53~55. Black line was found at heat affected zone next to the fusion line, that is remelt area of previous pass, during multipass remelting. Black line was identified as graphite, which was transformed from $Fe_3C$. in the ledeburite structure. It is observed that all graphites were nucleated at $Fe_3C$. and matrix interface. High density energy laser remelting process was also applied to verify whether black line could be eliminated. However, black line was still existed as observed in TIG remelting process. Regraphitization was simulated on the ledeburitic structure specimen using Gleeble 1500 with conditions of 1100 and 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5, I, 3, 5 and 1Osee. From the fact that graphite was formed even at the simulation condition of 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 0.5sec, it is seen that regraphitization is an inevitable phenomenon generated whatever processes used during multipass overlap remelting.

China has transformed her strategies for economic development from exogenous development founded on foreign capitals to endogenous development based on enhancing technology innovation capabilities since 2000. More specifically, Chinese business activities have coupled with new institutional settings which enable them to facilitate advanced technology and management methods. As a result, the characteristics of the spatial economy in China are likely to transfer from export-led developmental space to technology-oriented developmental space. In this context, this paper aims to identify the characteristics of technology-oriented space by investigating intra-, inter- and extra-firms relations of Korean FDI firms in Shanghai, China. In terms of intra-firm relations, Korean FDI firms adopted strategies for maximizing business efficiency and effectiveness by transforming their personal networks into formal networks. In terms of inter-firm relations, the distinction of Korean FDI firms' networks has been found in accordance with firm size, industrial sectors, ways of investment etc. Finally, Korean FDI firms has formal networks resulted from institutional involvement, as well as informal (personal) networks based on guanxi (inter-personal relations) in extra-firm relations. Therefore, two types of processes affecting the networks and institutional legacies of the Soviet system can be identified. First is the interaction of institutions and restructuring of pre-existing networks. Second is the insulated institutions and endurance of preexisting networks. And these two governance types have created regional economies which are embedded and over-embedded.
