  • 본 논문에서는 MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System)을 이용한 유도 전동기의 회전자 저항을 추정하는 방법을 제안하였다.

  • In this study, we investigate a design technology intended to radically increase the buckling strength of vertically curved panels. Recent studies proposed a buckling strength formula which properly reflects the effect on the local plate buckling strength of flat plates when they are stiffened by closed section ribs. Herein, we attempted to quantitatively evaluate this effect on curved panels and to reveal the correlations with the design parameters. The commercial finite element software, ABAQUS, was used to build a three dimensional numerical model and numerical parametric studies were conducted to evaluate the variation of the buckling strength. In the case of flat panels, the local buckling strength of stiffened curved panels increases proportionally with increasing rotational stiffness of the closed-section ribs. After attaining a limiting value, an obvious tendency was found that the local buckling strength of the stiffened curved panel would converge towards a fixed value when the panels are supported along both sides. The parametric studies performed using the influential design parameters confirmed that the estimated partially-restrained curved panel strength is well correlated with the proposed formula.

  • Ideal rotator cuff repair is to maintain high fixation strength and minimize gap formation for optimizing the environment of biologic healing of tendon to bone. Among the current repair techniques, the suture bridge technique is superior to single- or double-row repair in ultimate load to failure, gap formation, restoring anatomical footprint and achieving pressurized contact area. The suture bridge technique also minimizes gap formation and has rotational and torsional resistances allowing early rehabilitation. However, despite superior biomechanical characteristics of the suture bridge technique, there is no evidence that these mechanical advantages result in better clinical outcomes. Furthermore, there is no difference in failure rates between the double-row repair and suture bridge techniques. An appropriate repair technique should be determined based on tear size and pattern and tendon quality.

  • Well-designed steel moment connections will undergo local buckling before they exhaust their available rotation capacity, and inelastic post-buckling deformation plays a major role in defining the connection rotation capacity. An approximate analytical method to model strength degradation and failure of beam plastic hinges due to local buckling and estimation of the seismic rotation capacity of fully restrained beam-column connections in special steel moment-resisting frames under both monotonic and cyclic loading conditions is proposed in this study. This method is based on the plastic mechanism and a yield line plastic hinge (YLPH) model whose geometry is determined using the shapes of the buckled plastic hinges observed in experiments. The proposed YLPH model was developed for the improved WUF-W and RBS connections and validated in comparison with experimental data. The effects of the beam section geometric parameters on the rotation capacity were discussed in the companion paper (parametric studies).

  • Experimental study on strength characteristics of frozen soils is necessary for the safety evaluation of design and construction in cold region. The objective of this study is to evaluate the direct shear strength of frozen soils obtained from traditional system (Type-1), system with roller on the upper shear box (Type-2), and system with fixed upper shear box separated from bottom shear box (Type-3). Specimens mixed with sand, silt, and water are frozen to $-5^{\circ}C$, and then direct shear tests are conducted under the normal stress of 5, 10, 25, and 50 kPa. Experimental results show that the upper shear box of Type-1 touches the bottom shear box due to the rotation of the upper shear box. The shear strength obtained from Type-2 is overestimated because the preventing rotation force is added to shear force. Type-3 may acquire the only strength of the specimen, and shear strain at peak shear strength is similar to that at the beginning of vertical displacement occurrence. In addition, internal friction angle and cohesion at both peak and residual stresses in Type-3 are smaller than those of Type-2. This study shows that high strength specimens including frozen soils can be effectively evaluated using improved shear box system such as Type-3.

  • Arthroscopic single-row rotator cuff repair is a well established surgical technique for the treatment of rotator cuff tears. However, the problem of postoperative retear remains a concern. Various avenues are being explored to address this problem. Some studies have suggested that restoring the anatomical footprint may improve the healing and initial strength of the repaired rotator cuff tendon. The double-row technique was introduced as a method of reconstructing the anatomical footprint. According to biomechanical studies on cadavers, this technique improved mechanical strength and reduced gap formation. However, the biological properties of reattached tendon such as tension, and vascularity have not been proved yet. Furthermore, the apparent mechanical superiority of the double-row over the single-row construction has not resulted in better functional outcomes. Therefore, the less complicated and less costly single-row technique is still the recommended treatment for rotator cuff repairs.
