  • This paper examines the effect of the analysts' earnings forecast revisions on stock price after the dividend announcement of the firms has been released. We show that the analysts' upward revisions on earnings forecasts are followed by the positive cumulative abnormal return. We also investigate the signalling effect and the confirmation effect with respect to the effect of the dividend announcement and the earnings forecast revisions on stock price. The test results show that the confirmation effect is stronger than the signalling effect. That is, the investors react only when the analysts' forecasts coincide with the preceding dividend announcement.

  • There have been arguments in Korea that fair value accounting system improves quality of accounting information through the asset revaluation. These arguments are based on the fact that investors prefer fair value to cost value information. Others argue that cost principles may offer more proper information to the investors because financial statements applied the cost principles are more objective and thus more reliable. Prior researches focused mainly on the motives of asset revaluation but I examined the effects of the tangible asset revaluation on the stock prices. The empirical findings indicate that : (1) the gains on the tangible asset revaluation are positively correlated with the stock prices; (2) the net book values applied the cost principles explain stock prices better than the net book values applied fair values. My findings suggest that the gains on the tangible asset revaluation constitute a part of the firms' values but the accounting informations measured fair value are not always useful to the investors in the capital market.

  • This study analyzed through GEM-listed companies for verifying the interrelationship between positive and negative impacts on accounting information GEM-listed companies, whether venture firms operate the internal control operation system stably. Hong Kong's GEM listed company is a securities market similar to Korea's KOSDAQ market. To analyzing this study, used regression analysis method through internal control index to evaluate the operation of internal control system and discretionary accruals to evaluate the quality of accounting information. In this study, because profit adjustments used to realize through discretionary accruals, so analyzed using the modified Jones model to check whether the management deliberately transformed the company to realize future profits. In the empirical analysis, the correlation between the internal control index and the discretionary accruals to assess the quality of accounting information was able to find highly correlated. This study can provide useful guidance for evaluating the form and value of profit management of venture firms in the future, also would expect to help understand the financial environment of emerging venture firms.

  • The current accounting for the long term care facilities are enforced by either financial accounting stipulations of social welfare legal entity or the guiding principles of long term care insurance law. In addition, some facilities are not eligible to access to the Korea Health and Welfare information system and even don't have any obligation to report financial information. Thus financial position and performance of activities are not well known to the interested parties. This study investigated the way how to improve the current accounting stipulation of the long term care facilities. In conclusion, we should introduce the accounting standards based on the double entry system but on other aspect, also more simplified financial statement based on single entry system for smaller facilities. Also we should introduce three important appropriation accounts for the net income of institution which matches GAAP. For a successful plantation of accounting standards, it is necessary to establish provisions, government subsidy account, depreciations concept.

  • This study estimated and analyzed the incremental profits to compare the imported buff-tailed bumblebees, Bombus terrestris, and their pollination alternatives. A result of the analysis showed that the incremental profit, which is defined as the sales revenue minus the common production cost, was higher when using pollinator insects than when using the artificial pollination and that the incremental costs were lower when using domestic bumblebees or artificial pollination than when using imported bumblebees or honeybees. The incremental profits of each alternative were 46,801 million won for imported bumblebees, 47,170 million won for domestic bumblebees, 46,975 million won for honeybees, and 29,839 million won for artificial pollination. The incremental profit means the accounting profit that can be realized from each alternative. However, not all of the accounting profits can be attributed to pollen-mediated alternatives since they include potential costs such as imputed rent or normal profits. Considering the opportunity costs, which are the potential costs, it appears that the alternative of using imported bumblebees can lead to an economic loss. It means that fruit and vegetable farmers can expect additional economic profits if they choose other alternatives instead of using imported bumblebees.

It is being resulted from that the policies of the general principles of accounting standards which is subjected to ask an objective data and evidence, and the denial system as a debt derived from imperfect legal theory applied by current law. Therefore, it is necessitated to find if any irrationality in the positive system is and further to draw an improved reasonable measures to adopt by review of constant system preparing tile reasonableness with the method of suitable quantification devices provided that any time-delay is induced by the party.

  • This study examines the effect of managerial ability on managers' opportunistic reporting discretion in recognizing the goodwill impairment losses after the adoption of K-IFRS. Cross-sectional regression results show that goodwill impairment losses are not recognized timely at the time of the goodwill impairment symptom, but rather managers make bad use of goodwill impairment losses as tools of income smoothing and big-bath. Managerial ability is not directly related to the recognition of goodwill impairment losses, but firms with more able managers recognize timely goodwill impairment losses when the symptom of goodwill impairment exists, and they use less income smoothing when the firms' expected pre-impairment earnings are abnormally high. This study is the first research to consider the relationship between managerial ability and manager' earnings management in goodwill impairment accounting.

  • Before 2003 the companies in Korea should capitalize the interest expenses that are attributable to the acquisition, construction or production of a qualifying assets. However, according to the revised standard which should be applied from 2003, the companies can either capitalize the interest expenses or recognize as an expense when they are incurred. Therefore almost all the companies confronted with the decision making of accounting choices on the interest capitalization. This paper empirically examines which financial characteristics of the companies affect the accounting choice by using logistic regression model and reviews the sufficiency of the foot notes disclosures regarding the capitalized interest. The variables of the financial characteristics are change of debt-equity ratio, borrowing ratio, qualifying assets ratio, firm size and income smoothing. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, among the financial characteristics, only qualifying asset ratio has the significant difference between capitalized companies and expensing companies. Second, the results of logistic regression indicate that qualifying asset ratio and firm size have the significant influence on the accounting choices. Therefore, I cannot find the evidence supporting that the companies use the accounting choice to manage the financial ratios.
