  • Phylloides tumor is very similar to giant fibroadenoma in that they have benign appearance in breast radiologic image. Fibroadenoma has no malignant potential, but phylloides tumor is locally recurrent, invasive and may occasionally metastasize. It thus appears that evaluation of the differential point of the two tumor groups by radiologic study is very important. We retrospectively compared sonographic findings of 6 cases of phylloides tumor with those of 4 cases of fibroadenoma, which proved pathologically in Yeungnam University Hospital from 1984 to 1986. The mean age of the patients were 31.8 years old(from 14 to 41 years old) in phylloides tumor and 28.8 years old (from 17 to 40 years old) in giant fibroadenoma, respectively. The viewpoints of this analysis were size, shape and contour of the masses, internal echo pattern, posterior enhancement, and especially the existence of peripheral cyst or septal band echo. We found that diffenentiation of these two tumors by sonography was difficult. But peripheral cyst was found only in phylloides tumor and septal band echo was found largely in giant fibroadenoma. Although the existence of peripheral cyst or septal band echo in the breast mass was not pathognomonic findings, we suggest that the existence of septal band echo is preferential finding to fibroadenoma, and peripheral cyst is preferential finding to phylloides tumor.

  • This study was conducted to estimation the selection response for growth-related traits in 31-month old of Pacific abalone, Haliotis discus hannai were born in 2008. In overall mean of surveyed traits and standard deviation showed $76.31{\pm}7.247$ mm of shell length, $49.48{\pm}5.307$ mm of shell width and $40.96{\pm}6.80$ g of total weight. The effect of sex and maturity were statistically significant in all traits include out a condition factor (p < 0.01). And In effect of sex, female were higher than male in all traits excepting condition factor, significantly. In correlation between breeding value and phenotypic value by each traits, showed rank correlation coefficient and simple correlation coefficient, which represented low positive correlation. A hopeful genetic improvement to the next generation showed 6.96 mm of shell length, 4.47 mm of shel width and 12.93 g of total weight. Therefor, It is considered that if considering properly selection intensity and selection ratio, efficient improvement could be made.

  • 'Anyu', a perilla (Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton) cultivar for edible seed was developed by the Department of Functional Crop Science, National Institute of Crop Science, RDA in 2008. It was originated from the cross between a pedigree of YCPL1824 as a female and SF9225-3-1 as a male parent in 1998. 'Anyu' can be characterized by purple flower color and brown grain color. 'Anyu' showed semi-dwarft type with 120 cm height, and has lodging tolerance. Maturing date of 'Anyu' was September 24, which is 15 days faster than that of 'Saeyeopsil'. The early maturity of this new cultivar showed a great advantage to various planting system with other crops. This new cultivar has high oil content (45%) and high linolenic acid in the fatty acid composition. The yield potential of 'Anyu' was about 0.9 ton/1ha in the regional yield trial.

  • About 250 bp ura5 gene (Orotate phosphoribosyl transferase) fragment was cloned from genomic DNA of entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae by using PCR method. Entire nucleotide sequences of cloned DNA fragment were determined and analysed as compared with other fungus ura5 genes. The amino acid sequence deduced from the nucleotide sequence showed 85.5% homology to ura5 protein of Trichoderma reesei. Using this 250 bp PCR fragment we have isolated full ura5 gene of M. anisopliae by genomic Southern hybridization and the isolated 4.4 kb DNA fragments were mapped by restrictional enzyme.
