  • Light-scattering fine particulate matter monitors can measure particulate matter (PM) concentrations in every second and can be designed in a portable size. They can measure the concentrations of various PM sizes (PM1.0, PM2.5, PM4.0 and PM10) with a single sensor. They measure the number and size of particulate matters and convert them to weight per volume (concentration). These devices show a large error for asian dust. This paper proposes a scheme that compensates the PM2.5 concenstration error for asian dust by multiple linear regression machine learning in light-scattering PM monitors. This scheme can be effective with only two or three types of PM sizes. The experimental results compare a beta-ray PM monitor of national institute of environmental research and a light-scattering PM monitor during a month. The correlation coefficient (R2) of theses two devices was 0.927 without asian dust, but it was 0.763 due to asian dust during the entire experimental period and improved to 0.944 by the proposed machine learning.

  • Damages have occurred in various fields such as agriculture, industry, and citizen's health due to the yellow dust. Therefore, it is urgent to take measures against it. In this regard, this study collected data of yellow dust over 11 days on a basis of Feb. 23. 2015 when yellow dust was the greatest after 2009, issue words analysis and recomposed health related tweet data. After testing the significance of yellow dust related diseases by association rule analysis with diseases, it obtained the study results as follows: As a result of significance test for the patients with rhinitis, asthma and conjunctivitis by acquiring the condition data of patients from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, conjunctivitis appeared to be significant in 13 cities for 16 cities at 5% significance probability, while asthma and rhinitis showed a significance in 3 and 6 areas. As described above, it is possible to obtain information about citizens' health from SNS data, such as Tweet data and it is judged that these data will provide useful information for establishing measures of citizens' health care.

  • The occurrence of sand dust has been steadily increased since 1990 and the amount of damage was also increased. In most of previous studies, ground based observations were used for sand dust analyses, but its high spatio-temporal variability has not been well understood. In this study, satellite aerosol observations were used to overcome current limitations of the sand dust variability in space and time and to estimate associations with morbidity of respiratory and cardiovascular ailments. In general, high AODs were observed in the west part of the Koran peninsula in spring. The reasonable associations between the morbidity and sand dust were observed from April to July with highest positive correlation (~0.6) at three month lags (lag 3). Based on the results, we found a utility of the satellite aerosol observations for sand dust analyses by considering of morbidity effects. In addition, health effect against the sand dust is proved to be examined and smooth medical supplies and prevention of undesired medical expenses would be possible.
