Structural analysis models to develop live load distribution factors of simply supported prestressed concrete I-girder bridge should have the precision of the analysis results as well as modeling simplicity. This is due to the numerous frequency of structural analysis needed while developing live load distribution factors. In this study, an appropriate structural analysis model is selected by comparing previous researchs studies and models used in practical design. Also, the influence by the flexural stiffness of barrier and diaphragm on the live load distribution had been analyzed through comparing the numerical analysis and experimental tests. As a result, the model that the eccentric girder and the barrier and diaphragm are connected to the deck plate was appropriate in satisfying both accuracy and simplicity for structural analysis of simply supported prestressed concrete I-girder bridge. However, the barrier was analyzed to have insignificant influence on the live load distribution in spite of its variation of stiffness. The eccentric diaphragm showed little influence at 25% or higher of flexural stiffness. From the results, a model that the girder is rigidly connected to the deck plate in consideration of the eccentricity, the barrier is ignored and the whole section of diaphragm is supposed to be valid without eccentricity is decided as the most appropriate structural model to develop the live load distribution factors of simply supported prestressed concrete I-girder bridge in this study.

The current domestic design criteria of live load employs DL-24 load and DB-24 load. Particularly for long span bridges above 45meters, DL-24 load is forced to apply and design them, since the shearing force and the moment of DL-24 load appears more dominate than those of DB-24. But it appeared that this DL-24 load didn't meet the vehicles traveling load, which affected bridges in real use. Hence this paper defined ML-24 load similar to the load applied to real bridges and also defined a new live load model, RL-24 load, after adjusting the existing DL-24 load, which doesn't meet the moment and the shearing force of ML-24. As the result of applying and reviewing RL-24 load to simple bridges of span of 45~60m, the results satisfying both the moment and the shearing force applied to bridges in real use by traveling load were attained. Besides, the applicability of it was examined in comparison with live load models of home and abroad.

In order to rate current bridge load carrying capacity, typically two methods are used. These are Allowable Stress Rating (ASR) and Load Factor Rating (LFR). Using the rating factors, there are many attempts to make a connection between rating factors and probability concept. The main purpose of the paper is computing the probability of overload using rating factors and probability concept. In this paper, the load rating methods are briefly explained, and the probability concept is connected to rating factors by using live load from Weigh-in-Motion (WIM). Based on the live load model and rati ng factor, the computation procedure of the probability of overload is explained.

Various studies have been conducted to evaluate the probabilistic fatigue life of steel railway bridges, but many of them are based on a relatively simple model of crack propagation. The model assumes zero minimum stress and constant loading amplitude, which is not appropriate for the fatigue life evaluation of railway bridges. Thus, this study proposes a new probabilistic method employing an advanced crack propagation model that considers the live-dead load ratio for the fatigue life evaluation of steel railway bridges. In addition, by using the rainflow cycle counting algorithm, it can handle variable-amplitude loading, which is the most common loading pattern for railway bridges. To demonstrate the proposed method, it was applied to a numerical example of a steel railway bridge, and the fatigue lives of the major components and structural system were estimated. Furthermore, the effects of various ratios of live-dead loads on bridge fatigue life were examined through a parametric study. As a result, with the increasing live-dead stress ratio from 0 to 5/6, the fatigue lives can be reduced by approximately 30 years at both the component and system levels.
Although the strengthening effect of deteriorated concrete bridge decks has been studied by various authors, most researches are focused on the experimental works on the pulsating loading in laboratory in spite of deterioration of deck caused by moving vehicle loads. In this research, a theoretical live load model that was proposed to reflect an effect of moving vehicle loads is formulated from a statistical approach on the measurement of real traffic loads for various time periodsin Korea. Fatigue life and strengthening effect of strengthened bridge decks strengthened with either Carbon Fiber Sheet or Grid typed Carbon Fiber Polymer Plastic by the probabilistic and the reliability analyses are assessed. As a results, secondary bridge deck (DB18) strengthened with FRP ensures a sufficient fatigue resistance against the increased traffic loads as well as load carrying capacity in life cycle.

In this paper, the live load model for the design of high-speed railway bridge is analyzed by statistic and probabilistic methods and the safety level that is given by the load factors of the load combination is analyzed. This study is a part of the development of the limit state design method for the railway bridge, and the train data collected from the Gyeongbu high-speed railway for about one month are utilized. The four different statistical methods are applied to estimate the design load to match the bridge design life and the results are compared. In order to examine the safety level that the design load combination of the railway bridge gives, the reliability indexes are determined and the results are analyzed. The load effect from the current design live load for the high-speed rail bridge which is 0.75 times of the standard train load is came out greater than at least 30-22% that from the estimated load from the measured data. If it is judged based on the ultimate limit state, there is a possibility of additional reduction of the safety factors through the reliability analysis.
At present, the design live load of railway is divided into common railway and high speed railway separately in Korea. L22 which is based on American railway standards is used for common railway and HL25 which is based on Eurocode is used for high speed railway. Although, the design load is the starting point for design of railway, any research for developing design load does not exist at all. However, Europe and Japan develops the design load model consistently for advanced design. Recently, deterministic, probabilistic and cost performance approaches are investigated for developing new design load in Europe which is called LM2000. In the present paper, as a step for developing new design live load model for Korean railway, deterministic processes will be introduced. The safety margins are analyzed based on serviced real trains versus proposed new design load model and a necessity for new design live load will be presented quantitatively.

AASHTO LRFD and Korean Bridge Design Code (Limit State Design) specify to consider Truck and Lane load simultaneously determined from reliability-based live load model, and impact shall be applied to the truck load while it shall not be applied to the lane load. In this paper, vehicle-bridge interaction analysis under moving truck and lane loads were performed to estimate impact factor of the cables and girders for the selected multi-cable-stayed composite bridges with 230m, 400m and 540m main span. A 6-d.o.f. vehicle was used for truck load and a series of single-axle vehicles was applied to simulate equivalent lane load. The effect of damping ratio on the impact factor was estimated and then the essential parameters to impact factor, i.e., road surface roughness and vehicle speed were considered. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608 and it was applied to the truck load only in the vehicle-bridge interaction analysis. The impact factors evaluated from dynamic interaction analysis were also compared with those by the influence line method that is currently used in design practice to estimate impact factor in cable-stayed bridge.

The standard prestressed concrete I-girder bridge (PSC I-girder bridge) is one of the most prevalent types for small and medium bridges in Korea. When determining the member forces in a section to assess the safety of girder in this type of bridge, the general practice is to use the simplified practical equations or the live load distribution factors proposed in design standards rather than the precise analysis through the finite element method or so. Meanwhile, the live load distribution factors currently used in Korean design practice are just a reflection of overseas research results or design standards without alterations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an equation of the live load distribution factors fit for the design conditions of Korea, considering the standardized section of standard PSC I-girder bridges and the design strength of concrete. In this study, to develop an equation of the live load distribution factors, a parametric analysis and sensitivity analysis were carried out on the parameters such as width of bridge, span length, girder spacing, width of traffic lane, etc. As a result, the major variables to determine the size of distribution factors were girder spacing, overhang length and span length in case of external girders. For internal adjacent girders, the determinant factors were girder spacing, overhang length, span length and width of bridge. For internal girders, the factors were girder spacing, width of bridge and span length. Then, an equation of live load distribution factors was developed through the multiple linear regression analysis on the results of parametric analysis. When the actual practice engineers design a bridge with the equation of live load distribution factors developed here, they will determine the design of member forces ensuring the appropriate safety rate more easily. Moreover, in the preliminary design, this model is expected to save much time for the repetitive design to improve the structural efficiency of PSC I-girder bridges.

In this paper, vehicle-bridge interaction analysis under a series of moving vehicles to simulate a lane load was performed to estimate impact factor of the main cable, hanger and girder for the selected suspension bridges with 404m and 1545m main span. Korea Bridge Design Code(Limit State Design) was selected for the live model in which KL-510 truck was modeled 6-d.o.f. vehicle and a lane load was simulated by a series of single-axle vehicles. For the 404m main span bridge, hinge-type and floating-type girders at the tower were considered to examine the impact factor according to the connection and supporting type of the girders. The parameters considered herein are the types of live load-a truck only and a truck plus lane load, eccentricity of moving vehicles, road surface roughness and vehicle speed. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608 and it was applied to the truck only. The impact factors were also evaluated by using the influence line method that is commonly used in cable-supported bridges and compared with those from vehicle-bridge interaction analysis.
