  • Patient's trust in their physician is crucial for relationship between patients and their doctors, treatment outcomes such as satisfaction and adherence or revisits. The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of trusting the doctor in the doctor - patient relationship and to examine it through the multidimensional measurement tools. Using the convenience sampling method, 328 respondents in their 20s or older who had visited the hospital within 6 months were used as the analysis data. As a result of the research, it is difficult to define the meaning of the patient's trust in the doctor, but it can be summarized as having at least four meanings. First, the doctor should listen carefully to the patient's story and show communication behaviors expressing interest and forming an atmosphere of dialogue. Second, the patient's health should be considered first to understand the patient and empathize with the patient. Third, it should be honest in the examination and procedures related to the treatment as well as the technical ability. Finally, we should try to cooperate with patients.

The participants were 186 patients who received treatment for diabetes at the department of endocrinology in the tertiary hospital located in Daejeon and consented to participate in our survey. The results of this study were a significant interaction between trust in healthcare professionals(β=0.32, p=.045) and patient activation(β=0.32, p=.024) was associated with shared decision making. The patient activation had a moderating effect between trust in healthcare professionals and shared decision making in patients with diabetes mellitus(β=0.25, p=.019). Therefore, it is necessary to assess trust in healthcare professionals to improve negative awareness of healthcare professionals and strengthen trust in them. In addition, to promote participation in shared decision making, it is necessary to develop a convergent program to focus patient activation.

  • Abnormal external appearance may cause psychiatric trauma or problem in social adaption. The plastic surgeons should consider the patient's quality of life, and their roles are correcting psychiatric and emotional trauma as well as external appearance which help the patient adapting social life. Because the patients in plastic surgery have higher level of expectation for the result of their operation, it is necessary for the surgeons to explain precisely the procedure and possible complications precisely at preoperative meeting and to maintain the good doctor-patient relationship at postoperative follow-up period. In case if the patient dissatisfy the postoperative result, it is recommended to listen the second opinion from another plastic surgeon. If the patient still dissatisfy, then the patient should be consulted to psychiatrist.

It is to understand his emotional response by way of thinking(reasoning). By repeating this process, affect and thinking can achieve harmony and balance. 3) Training analysis may help to introspect oneself. Qualified analysts may be of help.
